City are scoring 4 past that Arsenal side. Sorry resident gooners but you're an absolute shambles at the back (injured defenders or not).

Denis Suarez.  I’ve always thought he was crap.

At best a very ordinary signing
The few times I have seen him for Barca, I can confirm he is a very technically good player. Add to that he has Emery as coach, I am sure he will be a success in this league.

City will score in under 6 minutes.

And it'll be a cutback by Sane from the byline and a tap in by Sterling/Aguero/Silva. They've scored the same goal about 20 times this season.

I think Arsenal are scoring but I'd bet money on City to win something like 3-1 or 4-2. Like someone else said, Spurs is the only big game Arsenal don't regularly bottle so there's little hope for them here.

Atkinson is reffing and he made it quite clear who he wants to win the league on Wednesday night with his "display".

I'm guessing he'll get quite a welcome there, the red carpet will be rolled out among other things.

Nah, city will get a comfortable lead early and then they will be able to coast and conserve some energy in this one.

Wouldnt have made a difference. Their defence is dogshit.

They can cause City problems at the other end though.

The only way Arsenal are getting anything out of this game is if City are starting to doubt themselves.

Guardiola is quite interesting at the moment according to the press he is showings signs of becoming impatient with his team. I do wonder if the motivation is quite the same for them this season. It was always going to be hard for them to repeat last season.

Well yeah, hopefully the pressure of trying to close the gap on us becomes too much for them. We already know we're deeply rooted inside their heads. Time will tell I suppose.

Ever? That's quite a bold statement.  ;D

Crap. Why was Kolasanic playing left wing?

Not sure the reasoning behind the tactics yesterday. He obviously didn't trust him in a back 4, but with that personnel that played you would have thought 3 at the back would be better.

Oh, and it's another example for why he has going after wide men in January. When he feels he needs to play Kolasinac & Iwobi as his 2 starting wide men at Man City, it's obvious he sees a lack of quality there.

They look a right mess. Don't think there's anyone in their back 5 worth holding on to, including that raffle winner they've got in goal.

Don't think they're much better going forward either to be honest. Sure they've got Lacazette and Auba who will get goals but outside of them two who else is there? Mikhtarian and Ozil have been dreadful for them recently and look to have been frozen out. Iwobi looked a prospect two years ago but hasn't developed. Ramsey is fucking off in the summer.

Think Torreira and Guendouzi are good signings but they need alot more than that if they're going to be competing again.

It's early days and will take several transfer windows to refresh the squad into something more balanced.

I think it's important to see through the transition as opposed to chopping and changing.

I've had this conversation a few times on here, but I suppose it's what you define as a mess really.

Any realistic fan would understand that after 22 years of being managing by 1 person, the next couple of years at least would be transitional. I think the general expectation was that he at least steadied the ship from the disastrous last 5 months of last season, so I would say he's met that so far.

The hope however, was that we could somehow manage to sneak into the top 4. Now, we've dropped down to 6 this weekend, but we're 3 points off 4th, with Chelsea playing City next & you guys playing Utd in a couple of weeks. We might not make it in the end, but we're still in the fight for the time being at least. I'm not sure many would have given Arsenal much hope of finishing 4th at the start of the season.

Im not saying there's not a lot of work to do, of course there is. Yourselves & City are on a different level just now, but I don't think there's that much between the rest. Perhaps Spurs has a bit more consistency but they've really had to dig results out the past few weeks.

Lets see how the season pans out, & how he works on stabilising the defence over the summer. Being able to pick a settled back 4 would be a start.

Not a single shot on target in the 2nd half is concerning. Especially when City were basically playing in 1st gear the entire match. Those last 20 mins were disappointing to watch as there was no real attempt to get back into the game.

That being said, I'm a little more optimistic of their chances this season. Still 3 points off 4th with only Spurs and Man U left to play out of the top 4.

They have a mammoth rebuilding job to do over the summer (if they are backed financially). Leno has a real Mignolet feel about him. Good shot stopper but not much else. Their entire back line needs to go.

I think they have to move Ozil on and use the money in building a solid back line that can function (or at the very least dont crumble at the 1st sign of pressure). Their midfield and attack aren't that bad on paper. Iwobi has a lot of potential but as has been stated Arsenal dont tend to get the most out of their potential players (see Oxlade Chamberlain, Ramsey, Walcott etc). Torreira and Guendouzi are the same.

Next season they have to start to show the makings of an identity. If by this time next season we dont see even a hint of what kind of football they want to play then I can see them in real trouble

It is fair to say it is not working out.

I wouldn't say so. Think you need to give Emery 12-18 months without any firm judgement.

It was always going to be a difficult transition from Wenger to the new manager. Wenger had been so embedded in that club and everything it did on the footballing side of things. I know that changed a bit in his last season or 2 but he was still paramount to how they functioned as a club.

On top of that, Arsenal have a strange squad composition at the moment. It's epitomised by the Ozil situation. I think Emery has got a really big job on his hands. They've done OK so far this season and he will have implemented changes at the club without them falling off a cliff. I don;t believe it's reasonable to think, in this situation, that he could turn an under performing team into Top 4 certs whilst reshaping the squad and changing the culture at the club.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Well said, you seem to have an uneven squad talentwise which is top heavy at the moment and it propably will take several spot on transfer windows (not easy) to correct starting with the defense with possibly some youngsters coming through to help with that.

As you said transition of the club will take time and most fans say they understand that but it's always easier to say you'll give the manager 2-3 years to implement his ideas than actually waiting through it patiently as a fanbase,i think you'll do it eventually though.

Emery does his best work in cup competitions. If you look back throughout his career it's blatantly obvious. Sevilla once went an entire season without winning an away game in La Liga. Therefore what Arsenal are like in the league now is likely to be what they remain while he's there barring an odd season here or there.

As you said transition of the club will take time and most fans say they understand that but it's always easier to say you'll give the manager 2-3 years to implement his ideas than actually waiting through it patiently as a fanbase,i think you'll do it eventually though.

Think the problem is in society everything is so demanding & instantaneous now, that its filtered through to football supporters & owners as well. They want & expect everything straight away. As others have said, I think it's certainly worth working through the transition, especially considering the change in all the management & structure at the club, hopefully they will implement a better overall footballing strategy.

You are right, Wenger & Gazidas did leave an unbalanced squad, I think their transfer dealings & contract decisions over their last 2 years reeked of panic & short termism. Hopefully this will be addressed over the next couple of windows. We all have our own views on squad building, but given our wage bill issue I'd much rather use some of the youngsters to replace high earning squad players ie Reiss Nelson / Danny Welbeck, Emile Smith-Rowe / Mkhitaryan, Maitland Niles / Elneny etc.
