We Go Again
« on: May 13, 2014, 02:09:29 pm »
Having seen more than a few people suggesting that Stevie's huddle after the City game was ruined by what happened next I decided to write this. It shows such a lack of bollocks in my view to let it morph from what it was into a joke. We didn't lose the title because of what Stevie said. He didn't slip because he said slip. It was one of the highlights of the season for me. Don't let it be ruined by gobshites.

We Go Again

A special season now is done
And sadly there's no title won.
But memories of how we played
Will hold us through these summer days.
One memory for me stands out
Our captain gives a rallying shout.
Emotion strong, he tells his men
We Go Again.

Those words so heartfelt and inspired
Don't change because of what transpired.
For Stevie is a man who leads
Desiring always to succeed.
Pushing himself and those around
To always reach for higher ground.
He bottled it? Go boil your head
Support your fucking team instead!
As we back ours and know that then
We Go Again.

So Chelsea came and things went wrong
And now they sing that fucking song
And flood the web with endless memes
Our captain's slip, their bitter dream.
Don't let them take those words from him
As if it's ruined by what they sing.
Don't let them say he fell on his arse
And gave the ball to Demba Ba.
Because though he did, we know he slipped
And from there they were well equipped
To defend their lead, to waste our time,
To keep their deep defensive line.
We know that horrid twist of fate
Was just one game of thirty-eight
As Mourinho spouts his bitter chat.
The Special One? The "Special" Twat.
I'll stick with backing Rodgers men.
We Go Again.

I'm proud of reds who backed their team
And lined the streets as they made us dream.
I'm proud of our courage and conviction
As we battered all pre-season predictions.
I'm proud that at 33-1
We oh so nearly had it won.
I'm proud of our captain and proud of his words
And proud I'll remain despite internet nerds
Who hide behind computers and type on their screens
And have no idea what that passion means.
It means that they care, that they'll fight for the club
For those in the ground and for those in the pub.
For those who support us home and away
And even the gloryhunters who turn up in May.
The importance of that passion cannot be diminished
Though our best season for years had a frustrating finish.
You'll see how it matters next season when
We Go Again.
Balotelli, Falcao, Cavani...

I'll be shocked if it's anyone other Etoo. Etoo or no-one. Simples.

Stevie will get his hands on the title before the end of his career. This may sound crazy, but since I was a mid 90's kid I had a deep hunch that Liverpool would next win the title in the 2015/16 season right at the end of Stevie's career. I don't like superstition, but I do believe with all my heart that we will win the title in 2 seasons.

We go again.

Excellent stuff -HH-.  Thank you.

We go again.

Not bad that -HH-. Not bad at all.

That slip did cost us. But his 13 goals and 13 assists didn't. Nor his passing. Nor his passion. Nor his love of the club. His calm and dignified interviews didn't do the club'sreputation any harm either.

Oh Ay. The 98 tackles and 90 clearances when added to the 48 interceptions probably helped the Liverpool season a bit.

Because he seems to be thriving in his new role (clueless that Brendan), it looks like we'll have to put up with the sod for another 3 or 4 years. Christ it could even be longer.

But those twats who say that slip cost us the title - they could be right I suppose.

Hovered for a full 30 seconds on this thread not knowing what to expect.  The term "we go again" is actually beginning to make me feel a little bit nauseous.  There was some Sly Sports season review on last night and it was repeated about 4 times by four 3 or 4 different people.

However, glad I did click and was pleasantly surprised with this HH.  Good stuff!

this is it all in a nutshell -

Spot on. We didn't lose the title because of Stevie Gerrard. We nearly won it because of him.

If we had won the league it'd be great. But we didn't. It will be remembered like Kevin Keegan's 'love it' rant. Ultimately it didn't have anything to do with us 'bottling' it. But it will be assosiated with it.

A Poem?? Benders.

The only thing that helped was the million penalties and 'Los Blanco' Suarez. Gerrard's passing didnt help, check OptaStats - he had the 33rd best passing rate in the Prem. Top drawer that eh? YAWN.

Weak as watery piss if you ask me Joff. All part of the whole "not believing good things will happen so not to be disappointed" school of thought. Fuck that for a game of soldiers. It was a great moment. The words don't lose meaning because it didn't happen this year precisely because next year we go again. When you've just won a massive game (as we had when the huddle happened) we go again, keep this attitude, keep giving it your all, keep focused. When you suffer a disappointment it still applies, it's still relevant. Learn from mistakes, build from positives and we go again.

If we're all going to get in a flap about what fans of other clubs think we'll never be happy. Look at all the people calling us lining the streets a victory parade. People who wouldn't know the meaning of support if it bit them in the arse. Fuck them and (apologies if this breaches personal abuse rules) fuck you if you're so lacking in backbone that you can't embrace one of the most brilliant moments of our season.

That's just about missed the whole point of why that rallying call from Gerrard was so important. We go again, it's the fucking call of a winning mentality. We built momentum we built a side that could challenge city for fucks sake. We just need to go again! Harder, faster and longer, we go again. We never give in, we set our standard and the we aim for consistently hitting our mark time and time again, half by half, game by game, season by season we go again. 86 next year 88 the year after we go again.

This attitude this belief this "way of working" will win games grind out draws from losing positions, and most importantly as we have seen put winning streaks together. Winning streaks of any significance win titles. Our last 14 games of this season produce 12 wins a loss and a draw. It was fucking huge, and it happened because this team bought in to the idea summed up neatly by the maxim "we go again".

You can forget about it if you want to, but I hope it's here to stay. Gerrard expressed it in rare moment of tv sporting drama, but he's not made it up, he's singing from a hymn sheet drummed in to them by our coaching staff. And they wont be changing the message because they feel silly about having lost a game or a title.

They will reassess, regroup, refresh, reboot, restock rest up AND GO AGAIN.

You fucking plumb.

One of the best moments of the season? Fairly subjective that. I lapped it up on the day. Hindsight would make me hope for a little more calm. After all, there were another 12 points to play for.

You can stick your insults up your arse too. I didn't slate your poem did I? Just gave my opinion about 'we go again' and how I'd like not to hear it again. I'm not telling you not to like it.

Or do I have to blow smoke up your arse to post in here?

Top notch OP!  8)

We have belief and we have confidence, at the beginning of the season we had asperations of getting back into the top four ~ we surpassed that, we became title contenders out of the blue to challenge for the top prize in the Premiership division, before the Premiership 'became what it is now', since 1992 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League , it is not a whispered history.

It existed, it happened, we achieved and we will once again - the Reds are climbing the hill once more!

I'm sure the other members of the team understood what they had to do. As at least 3 other of our players have top domestic league title winning experience. 2 of which are Premier league winners. Possibly 3 actually.

Were they the ones driving the team on, leading by example, showing the youngsters like Sterling, Coutinho, Flanno and Henderson the drive and determination to keep performing, drawing rave reviews from left-right-and-centre for their individual performances, getting words of personal appreciation from a player regarded as being at the peak of his game and one of the best 3 players in the world for the influence exerted in getting him to stay at the club last summer?

No.  But Gerrard was.

In that moment we saw a glimpse of the inner working of the man as our captain.  Those players around him might see it more often; on the training pitch, on the team bus, in the dressing room, wherever.  But one thing was for sure, they were with him, they believed in what he said and they were happy to follow his lead.

Too right we go again...and we go with him.

Where have I critisised Gerrard? Please tell me. He's been fantastic all year. My opinion was that he should have showed a little more calm. This is only my opinion. If it's right or wrong none of us know. No need for you lot piss yourselves.

If Keegan won the league after his Fergie rant, it would have been seen as genius. As it was, he didn't. And we didn't. So it just looks like an over-reaction to just another 3 points.

FWIW I couldn't give a shit what other fans think of us.

Nonsense. Had they won the league Keegan's rant would still be Keegan losing his cool. It wasn't designed to rally the troops, the words had no great meaning behind them. It would be mocked less, but you'd still probably laugh when you saw it just in a different way. Another key difference is that Keegan was talking to camera, Stevie didn't know the camera was there and when asked after the game he said "none of your business" when they asked what he said.

If you hadn't heard what he said, would you be blaming Gerrard for not being calm enough? What about in the dressing room - if he'd given that speech there when you wouldn't even know about it?

It's ludicrous to suggest it had any negative bearing. Chelsea was always going to be the game and we were doing OK until the Ba goal, which had nothing to do with lack of calm 2 weeks earlier. Our form in the second half of the season was W15, D3, L1.That's spectacular form (96 points a season form) and it's unrealistic to expect that that form was easy to maintain. To do it we needed focus and luck. We had one but not the other. It happens, but to want to forget all about what you concede would have been brilliant had we won the league and one that you also say had nothing to do with why we didn't win it - simply because it will be "associated" with us "bottling" it. Why does the association matter if you don't care what other fans think?

As for the poem, couldn't give a flying shite if you liked it but disappointed that you don't agree with the point it's putting across. It's clear you care more how other fans view it than what actually happened, whatever you say.
Balotelli, Falcao, Cavani...

I'll be shocked if it's anyone other Etoo. Etoo or no-one. Simples.

In fact, I'll do you all a favor and ban myself from the January transfer window forum if we get anyone other than Etoo.

This as well, when he's getting it from all angles we should be backing him, not burying our heads and pretending like things didn't happen. Just let the gobshites of other clubs belittle him, yeah?
