Doug Collins leads Kelly Loeffler by 2 points in Georgia Senate race

Quote
Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) is leading Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R-Ga.) by 2 points in the Georgia special election to fill the seat of retired Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), with the Democratic candidate a close third, according to the Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling.

The Public Policy Polling (PPP) poll commissioned by End Citizens United found that Collins would garner 23 percent of the vote in the multi-candidate field if the election were held today while Loeffler would collect 21 percent.

Democrat Raphael Warnock came in third at 20 percent.

The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 3.6 percent, putting Collins, Loeffler and Warnock in a statistical dead heat.

If no candidate manages to reach the 50 percent threshold during the November election, a runoff election between the top two finishers will be held in January 2021.

In head-to-head matchups, the survey found that Collins would beat Warnock 43 percent to 41 percent if the election were held today — a razor-thin lead within the survey’s margin of error.

Warnock would beat Loeffler 43 percent to 40 percent, according to the survey, an advantage that is again just within the margin of error.

Collins has the highest favorability rating of the three candidates, though barely, according to PPP.

Thirty-four percent of respondents said they have a favorable opinion of Collins, while 35 percent said they had an unfavorable opinion and 32 percent said they weren’t sure.

Loeffler registered a 29 percent favorable rating and a 43 percent unfavorable rating, while 28 percent said they weren’t sure what to think.

Warnock garnered a 32 percent favorable rating and a 33 percent unfavorable rating with 35 percent of respondents saying they weren’t sure of their opinion, putting him in roughly the same position as Collins.

Support for Warnock increased substantially when respondents were informed of his background as the pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, the former pulpit of Martin Luther King, Jr., and being born one of eleven children in a public housing project and also being the first in his family to graduate from college.

The poll found that 36 percent of respondents said they would vote for Warnock when informed of his background, while 23 percent said they would vote for Collins and 18 percent said they would vote for Loeffler.

After being told of Warnock’s accomplishments, 44 percent of voters said they would back him in a head-to-head matchup against Collins, while 42 percent said they would support the GOP House member.

When Warnock’s life story was included, 46 percent of respondents said they would vote for him over Loeffler while 39 percent said they would support Senate Republican incumbent.

Biden tells donors: I'm going to get rid of most of Trump's tax cuts 'and a lot of you may not like that'

Biden's warning to his backers came as the candidate laid out an ambitious suite of policy goals during a virtual campaign fundraiser.
"I'm going to get rid of the bulk of Trump's $2 trillion tax cut," Biden said, "and a lot of you may not like that but I'm going to close loopholes like capital gains and stepped up basis."

Biden's warning to his backers came as the candidate laid out an ambitious suite of policy goals during a virtual campaign fundraiser on Monday.

The event raised at least $2 million, CNBC reported.

Biden, who has been largely avoided in-person campaign events throughout the coronavirus pandemic, said the recovery from the health crisis could present an "opportunity" to strengthen the middle class and make sweeping investments in clean energy and infrastructure.

"Folks, this is going to be really hard work and Donald Trump has made it much harder to foot the bill," Biden said, according to a Wall Street Journal reporter's press pool report about the event.

But even before the coronavirus crisis effectively froze the U.S. economy and sent unemployment skyrocketing, Trump's "irresponsible sugar-high tax cuts had already pushed us into a trillion-dollar deficit," Biden said.

"I'm going to get rid of the bulk of Trump's $2 trillion tax cut," Biden continued, "and a lot of you may not like that but I'm going to close loopholes like capital gains and stepped up basis."

Biden also said he would raise the corporate tax rate to 28%, which he said would raise an estimated $1.3 trillion over the next decade. The Trump tax cuts had shrunk corporate taxes to 21% from 35%.

"We have to think as big as the challenge we face. But this is America, there is nothing we cannot do if we do it together," Biden said. "But I think the country is ready."

The Trump campaign didn't immediately reply to a request for comment.

Political establishment takes a hit as chaos reigns supreme
Brad Bannon, opinion contributor

More than 120,000 people have died from the COVID-19 pandemic, racial tensions are higher than they've been since the 1960's and the economy has tanked. So it shouldn't be a surprise that four out of every five Americans think things in this country are out of control.

Since chaos in this country reigns supreme, it should not be a shock that the political establishment has taken a big hit. The Democratic establishment took one (or a few) on the chin in primaries last week in New York City and in Kentucky. On the Republican side of the aisle, the party's leader President Donald Trump hit a low point in his campaign for a second term.

In New York, the contest was a study in contrasts. Democratic Rep. and chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee Eliot Engel, a white man, lost his campaign for a 16th term to Jamaal Bowman, an African American man who is a former middle school principal.

The outcome of the Democratic primary in the Bluegrass State, which will decide who will face off against Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) in November, is still in doubt. Early returns have State Representative Charles Booker, a progressive, leading former Marine pilot Amy McGrath. If Booker does prevail after the mail-in ballots are counted, it will be a major upset. After all, McGrath secured the endorsement of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and raised more than 40 million dollars. Booker spent a small fraction of that, but his campaign caught on when he participated in demonstrations against the killing of an African American E.M.T. Breonna Taylor by Louisville, Ky., police.

The big surge of support for Black candidates after George Floyd's murder played a role in the outcome of the Bowman and Booker campaigns. The other factor was the endorsements the candidates received from the iron triangle of anti-establishment, leftist lawmakers Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). AOC handily won her own primary last week. The growing influence of the progressive power trio represents a significant challenge to the Democratic leaders in Congress, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.).

As worrisome as it is to be part of the Democratic leadership, it's a lot worse to be a power player in the GOP. Donald Trump took over the party lock, stock and barrel in 2016 and now the tides seem to be shifting away from him.

Not only does the GOP establishment have to cope with an American electorate that is disillusioned with the status quo in the U.S., it has the added burden of the crushing weight of a president who has bottomed out when it comes to job approval.

The most telling sign of Trump's decline was his sad standing in the battleground states of Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Joe Biden led Trump in each of the six states by at least six percent. If Biden holds his lead in these states, the Democratic candidate will succeed by a massive Electoral College landslide.

With Trump in the polling dump, the GOP is in danger of being shut out at the national level. In this political environment, Republicans have little chance of winning a majority in the House of Republicans and could lose control of the Senate. McConnell faces a challenge for his own seat this year, which ultimately could mean losing his control of the Senate. If Biden wins, Democrats need a net gain of only three seats to take control of the Senate. Polls indicate that several Republican senators, including Susan Collins (Maine), Martha McSally (Ariz.), Thom Tillis (N.C.), Cory Gardner (Colo.), Steve Daines (Mont.) and both incumbents in Georgia are facing serious threats to their re-election.

With the leader of their party at a low ebb, Republicans are starting to jump off the sinking ship. Last week corporate power player and former Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina endorsed Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden. Also last week, dozens of national security experts who served Republican presidents also expressed their support for Biden.

A group of Republican activists and strategists under the banner of the Lincoln Project continue to batter the president with blistering television ads.

Chaos will always rock the political establishment. For Democrats, this means a shift in power away from the pragmatic wing of the party to the progressive wing. The upheaval will be even worse for the GOP establishment because it means a shift out of power completely. That's the price Republicans will pay for their blind loyalty to Donald Trump.

Poll finds Biden with narrow lead over Trump in Missouri

A new  poll commissioned by Democrats finds former Vice President Joe Biden leading President Trump by 2 points in Missouri, which went for Trump by 19 points in 2016.

A survey conducted by the Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group finds Biden at 48 percent and Trump at 46. That’s within the survey’s 3.5 percentage point margin of error.

The poll was paid for by the campaign of state auditor Nicole Galloway, a Democrat, who is running against Gov. Mike Parson (R). The survey finds Parson in the lead, 47 percent to 40 percent.

However, the survey is the latest sign that Trump is struggling in states that he is expected to win.

Missouri has not gone for the Democratic presidential nominee since former President Bill Clinton carried it in 1996.

The Trump campaign is spending in Iowa, Ohio and Georgia, all of which the president won easily in 2016. Polls show a tight race in Texas, as well.

The poll in Missouri found Biden with 94 percent support from Democrats. Trump is at 87 percent support among Republicans.

Independents in the poll broke for Biden by a 45 to 40 margin.

The Garin-Hart-Yang survey of 800 likely general election voters in Missouri was conducted between June 16 and June 22.

Here's an interesting interactive map here. I played around with it and, being generous to Trump and giving him the usual red states and a battleground or two despite the fact that Biden is currently in all of those the moment (including some always red states), if things really do hold up for Biden the way they seem to be at the moment then there's the very real possibility that he could end up winning 350+ electoral votes while Trump would struggle to get to even 180.

Well I wouldn't read too much into that Missouri poll, but it's definitely clear that Republicans are having to pour money into defending states they would usually consider safe.  That immediately has them on the defensive.

Trump aside, the GOP itself could be buried come November.

All good Joe, but STFU.

The trouble is raising taxes won't be enough. They will need to cut government spending too. At 18% unemployment that will not be easy. Raise taxes and you put businesses in difficulties. Conditions aren't exactly great now and corporate debt levels were at record high before the virus. Cut spending and the pain ends up with the already unemployed.

Its America, so it will never happen, but they could cut spending on the military. Spend that money on infrastructure that will boost the economy and provide jobs.

Cutting military spending is unthinkable over there though.

I know Biden has said he's against defunding the police, but seeing as they don't need tanks maybe individual states can find ways to free up/reallocate money?  There needs to be a lot of cooperation and coordination between states and federal government to see where they can free up resources.

The problem is (and not just for the US) that they spend more than they get in via taxes. What they want with the infrastructure is to spend even more. That needs to be paid for and the burden is essentially put on future tax payers. Spend now, pay later. Biden wants to do more of that. The day interest rates begin to go up (from next to zero) this will go from bad to worse. All of a sudden it will be more expensive to service the debt. They can probably get away with some more spending because the world is in an even worse shape, but for how much longer?

ABC News
Former Marine fighter pilot wins closely watched Kentucky Senate primary
2 hrs ago

Amy McGrath, a former Marine fighter pilot, fended off a challenge from an upstart progressive, Charles Booker, ABC News projects, nabbing the Democratic nomination on Tuesday to take on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in November.

McGrath's victory comes a full week after voters headed to the polls last Tuesday in the hard-fought Senate primary -- a delay brought on by the influx of absentee ballots due to the coronavirus and the tougher-than-expected contest shaped by the national unrest over racial injustice and police brutality.

The race wasn't expected to be tight just one month ago, but the campaign was upended in its closing weeks by the fallout from the deaths of African Americans at the hands of law enforcement, including two in the state of Kentucky since mid-March.

Despite having the backing of national Democrats and a formidable war chest, McGrath found herself in an increasingly competitive battle for the nomination with Booker, 35, the youngest Black state lawmaker in Kentucky from the Louisville-area.

Harnessing the energy of the protests and the party's liberal wing, with endorsements from progressive darlings, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., Booker offset McGrath's advantages with grassroots momentum in the lead up to in-person voting.

The race emerged as an electoral test of the impact of the movement -- born out of the response to the recent deaths of George Floyd and Louisville's own Breonna Taylor -- on what kind of candidate Democrats want to put forward to meet the moment. It's also a test for a candidate whose life story reflects much of the themes in the demonstrations.

On the eve of the election, Booker told ABC News that he is poised to deliver a shock to the political world, as his candidacy, he said, reflects the movement and momentum that swept him into contention for the nomination.

"We know that we can do the work to end poverty and to end injustice and to address the racial structural inequity that rob so many people have the chance of doing anything more, the struggle," he said. "And so we're fighting back and we're showing the country and the world what Kentucky is made of ... and I'm fired up."

McGrath even acknowledged that Booker's personal connection to the energy fueling the demonstrations across the country made him a formidable opponent.

"His life experience. He has a voice for these things. And I think that that's an important voice. I do believe we need to come together as Democrats to defeat Mitch McConnell," she said.

But McGrath's outsider status withstood Booker's efforts to define her a moderate, more-of-the-same, "pro-Trump Democrat" that is part of the "political establishment."

McGrath entered the Senate race as the preferred candidate of the party establishment, earning the backing of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in February and establishing her campaign as a fundraising behemoth after launching her Senate bid in July 2019, with more than $40 million in her war chest.

Before Tuesday, it was not clear who would ultimately be handed a victory, since some Kentucky counties, including the state's two largest, withheld even partial results until June 30, after all mail ballots were tabulated. Earlier on Tuesday, Booker captured both Jefferson and Fayette counties, which cover Louisville and Lexington, but his edge was not enough to counter McGrath's lead with absentee ballots and some of the more rural parts of the state.

McGrath led Booker 45% to 43% or by just under 12,000 votes, with 95% of the expected vote in.

But now, the former congressional candidate who lost to GOP Congressman Andy Barr in 2018, faces a steeper uphill climb, as she aims to unseat the top Republican in Congress in a state President Donald Trump won by nearly 30 points four years ago.

Within minutes of McGrath scoring her win in the primary, McConnell's campaign welcomed her into the general election ring, already seeking to cast her as a "tool of the Washington Democratic establishment."

"Extreme Amy McGrath is lucky to have gotten out of the primary with a victory, but her reputation sustained significant damage all across Kentucky," said Kate Cooksey, a spokesperson for McConnell's campaign. "McGrath is just another tool of the Washington Democratic establishment who has no idea what matters most to Kentuckians. It's clear this self-proclaimed most liberal person in Kentucky who supports government-run health care and abortion even in the ninth month does not represent Kentucky values. Amy, it's great to have you."

McGrath, pointing to last year's race between Democrat Andy Beshear and then-incumbent Republican Gov. Matt Bevin, called for Democrats to unite behind her campaign to unseat McConnell, who has been in office for more than 30 years.

"There can be no removal of Mitch McConnell without unity," she said in a statement after her win. "He's destroyed our institutions for far too long. ... A year after showing the country that Kentucky won't hesitate to replace an incompetent and unpopular incumbent Republican like Matt Bevin, let's do it one more time."

This is big.

Racist Kentucky prob wouldn't vote for Booker, but they might like McGrath over Moscow Mitch.  Let's hope Booker throws his full support.

In May, it was Trump 46% - 43% Biden

Poll: Biden, Trump locked in neck-and-neck battle for North Carolina

President Trump and Joe Biden are running neck and neck in North Carolina, with the former vice president holding a marginal 1-point lead in one of the election’s most crucial battleground states, according to a new poll from East Carolina University (ECU).

The poll shows Biden garnering 45 percent of the vote to Trump’s 44 percent. That’s well within the survey’s 3.4 percentage point margin of error.

But in a sign that the president’s support is trending downward amid several national crises, his approval rating dropped to 44 percent in North Carolina, down from 48 percent in a previous ECU poll fielded in May. His disapproval also jumped 4 points from last month, ticking up to 51 percent from 47 percent.

North Carolina is a key electoral target for both parties this year. Not only is it expected to play a critical role in deciding the presidential race, but it is also the site of hotly contested Senate and gubernatorial races.

In the Senate race, Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and his Democratic challenger, Cal Cunningham, are locked in a tie, with each candidate garnering 41 percent support in the ECU poll. That contest is one of five where Democrats are targeting GOP incumbents they see as particularly vulnerable.

That tie is virtually unchanged from ECU’s May survey, which showed Tillis leading Cunningham 41 percent to 40 percent.

Meanwhile, in North Carolina’s gubernatorial race, current Gov. Roy Cooper (D) holds a double-digit lead over his Republican opponent, Lt. Gov. Dan Forest. The poll shows Cooper notching 49 percent of the vote to Forest’s 38 percent. Still, that’s down from a 15-point lead for Cooper in the May poll.

The ECU poll surveyed 1,149 registered North Carolina voters from June 22-25.

Democrats lead in three key Senate races, CNBC/Change Research poll finds
Jacob Pramuk

The GOP is trying to protect its Senate majority as it defends a range of seats from competitive challenges.
While Joe Biden is widening his lead over President Donald Trump in recent polls, a Republican Senate could block his policy priorities during a potential presidency.

Democrats lead in three pivotal U.S. Senate races as President Donald Trump falls into a deeper hole in his reelection bid, according to a new CNBC/Change Research poll.

The survey took the pulse of competitive Senate elections in Arizona, Michigan and North Carolina — three of the six 2020 election swing states featured in the poll released Wednesday. The other states — Florida, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — do not have Senate contests this year.

In Arizona, Democratic former astronaut Mark Kelly leads Republican Sen. Martha McSally by a 53% to 44% margin, according to the CNBC/Change Research poll. The senator, appointed to fill the late John McCain's seat after she lost a 2018 election in the state to Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, has consistently trailed Kelly in polls.

Meanwhile, Democratic Sen. Gary Peters of Michigan — one of the few Democratic senators facing a strong Republican challenge this year — holds a 49% to 42% edge over GOP Army veteran John James, the survey found. While Trump narrowly won the state on his way to the White House in 2016, recent polls have showed a challenging environment in Michigan for both the president and James.

In North Carolina, Democratic former state Sen. Cal Cunningham holds a 51% to 41% advantage over Republican Sen. Thom Tillis, according to the CNBC/Change Research poll. A RealClearPolitics average of recent polls shows a much closer race for the Senate seat.

The Senate survey results largely mirror the presidential race in an election year that increasingly looks like a referendum on Trump and his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden leads the president by 7, 5 and 7 percentage points in Arizona, Michigan and North Carolina, respectively, the poll found.

Democrats aim to flip control of the Senate and White House while keeping their House majority in November's elections. Republicans hold a 53-47 majority in the Senate, meaning Democrats would have to net four GOP-held seats to gain control.

If Biden wins the White House, his ability to push any of his priorities through Congress will depend on whether his party takes control of the Senate.

Democrats will get many opportunities to win a majority: Republicans have to defend 23 seats, while Democrats control only 12 up for grabs this year. Among Democrats, only Sen. Doug Jones of Alabama faces a more difficult path to reelection than Peters.

On the Republican side, Sens. Cory Gardner of Colorado, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Susan Collins of Maine and Steve Daines of Montana will have to hold off potentially competitive challenges.

Biden Outraises Trump for Second Straight Month, With $141 Million June Haul

Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and the Democratic Party outraised President Trump and the Republicans for the second straight month in June, announcing a record haul of $141 million on Wednesday night only hours after Mr. Trump’s campaign had trumpeted his own $131 million total.

Both of the presidential candidates’ hauls represented huge spikes from May, when Mr. Biden raised $80.8 million and Mr. Trump $74 million.

The totals were impressive in different ways. For Mr. Biden, the huge sum represented a reversal after he had struggled with fund-raising for much of the primary campaign, as well as a signal that the party’s donors, big and small, have united behind him. For Mr. Trump, it showed the durability of his financial supporters, who delivered his strongest month yet despite a turbulent June and polling showing him trailing Mr. Biden badly.

The Trump campaign had celebrated its $131 million haul earlier on Wednesday evening, with Brad Parscale, the campaign manager, writing on Twitter, “Americans voting with their wallets, supporting the president.”

Then the Biden campaign announced its larger monthly fund-raising sum.

“There’s real, grass-roots energy for Joe,” Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, Mr. Biden’s campaign manager, wrote on Twitter, adding that 68 percent of the donors were new to the campaign and 2.6 million people had signed up to be on Mr. Biden’s email list.

Still, the Trump campaign said that it now had $295 million in the bank, a formidable financial advantage entering the summer months, and that it had raised nearly $950 million over the last two years. Mr. Biden’s campaign did not disclose its cash-on-hand total.

Mr. Trump spent aggressively as well. The figures released by his campaign show that he spent about $100 million in June.

For the president, June began with the nationwide protests in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd by the Minneapolis police. It included the forceful and widely criticized clearing of peaceful protesters outside the White House for a photo op; the release of a scalding book by Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser John R. Bolton; the ousting of the United State attorney for the Southern District of New York; Mr. Trump’s first rally since the coronavirus pandemic shut down the country, in Tulsa, Okla., which failed to fill the arena; and a series of tweets from the president, including one over the weekend that was later deleted in which a supporter shouted “white power,” that renewed accusations of racism.

Coronavirus cases also began to rise in states that had reopened their economies more fully, including across the South and the Sun Belt.

None of that slowed the flow of money. Nor did multiple national polls showing Mr. Trump trailing by double digits, including a New York Times/Siena College survey that had Mr. Biden at 50 percent and Mr. Trump at 36 percent.

Mr. Trump’s campaign said it had set a single-day record for online fund-raising on his birthday, June 14, collecting $14 million. The full $131 million sum came as Mr. Trump held only two fund-raising events for the month.

The Trump campaign did not break down how much of the money was raised online or came from large donations — his joint committee with the R.N.C. can receive checks of more than $500,000 — but it said the outpouring was “largely fueled by the robust digital, mail and online donor base” of the president.

The total is more than Mr. Trump and the R.N.C. ever raised in a single month in 2016.

In recent days, Mr. Trump’s campaign reserved about $95 million in television ads for the fall, beginning after Labor Day in half a dozen states: Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. He also began buying airtime in Michigan on Wednesday.

Fund-raising figures are not required to be publicly released until mid-July. Mr. Trump’s campaign released its numbers on July 1 in what appeared to be a political show of force, and hours later, Mr. Biden’s team one-upped him.

It bothers me that Trump can still raise this kind of money. Most of his bedrock support are likely in the low income bracket, so he clearly has a lot of big money donors grateful for their tax cuts in his corner.

It's fortunate that they're having to defend normally safe states, but a lot can change in four months.

Poll: Biden leads Trump by 12 points nationally

Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden leads President Trump by 12 points in a new national poll.

The latest Monmouth University survey finds Biden at 53 percent, compared to Trump at 41 percent.

Biden’s lead has grown steadily over the past few months, from 3 points in March, to 4 points in April, to 9 points in May and 12 points presently.

Fifty percent of all voters say they’re certain they will not vote for Trump, compared to 39 percent who said they’re certain they will not vote for Biden. Forty percent of Biden’s supporters say they’re certain they’ll vote for him, compared to 34 percent of Trump’s supporters.

Sixty-two percent of white voters with a college degree have ruled out voting for Trump and 61 percent of racial minorities have done the same. Fifty-six percent of white voters without a college degree say it is extremely unlikely they will support Biden.

“Half of all registered voters have ruled out backing Trump,” said Monmouth pollster Patrick Murray. “Trump showed in 2016 that he can thread the needle, but these results suggest the president has even less room for error in 2020. He must convert some of those unlikely supporters if he is to win a second term.”

Biden is a far more popular candidate than Hillary Clinton was at this point in 2016.

Biden’s favorability rating is at 44 positive and 44 negative, up from 42 positive and 49 negative last month. At this point in 2016, Clinton stood at 34 positive and 52 negative.

Trump’s favorability rating is at 38 positive and 55 negative. At this point in 2016, Trump was at 31 positive and 53 negative.

In 2016, Trump performed well among voters who held a negative view of both candidates. But these “double negative” voters are breaking for Biden this year by a 55 to 21 margin.

“Four years ago, Clinton was the insider candidate who approximated an incumbent in many voters’ minds. There is no mistaking who wears that mantle this year,” Murray said. “Trump’s problem is that voters who aren’t enamored with either candidate tend to go for change.”

Trump and Biden have been attacking each other’s mental fitness for office.

The Monmouth survey found that 52 percent of voters are at least somewhat confident that Biden has the mental and physical stamina needed to be president, compared to 45 percent who said the same of Trump.

However, 33 percent said they’re very confident Trump has the physical and mental stamina needed, compared to 23 percent who said they’re very confident in Biden.

Seventy-two percent of Republicans said they’re very confident about Trump’s mental and physical acuity, while only 47 percent of Democrats said they’re very confident about Biden’s mental and physical acuity.

“Biden hasn’t developed the kind of adulation among his base that Trump can count on from his supporters,” said Murray. “This seems to be a fairly common trend in the campaign so far and is at least partly due to the Democrat being out of the public eye during the pandemic.”

The Monmouth University of 867 U.S. adults was conducted between June 26 and June 30 and has a 3.6 percentage point margin of error.

It's fortunate that they're having to defend normally safe states, but a lot can change in four months.

We'll see. A lot of investors will be concerned with a Biden win. If he increases taxes it will hurt their business. That said, I think quite a few are less than pleased with Trump's handling of things too. They think he's wasting resources and basically he's doing what Sanders wanted to do. It could be that they see Trump as a bad alternative, but fear Biden will be even worse.

The wit and wisdom of Fucker Tarlson.

Far too cringeworthy to post the whole thing, but here's the best bit:

FOX News
Tucker Carlson: Can the left really lead a country it hates?
Tucker Carlson

Can you really lead a country that you hate?

Ask yourself, what kind of parent would you be if you hated your children?

What kind of officer would you make if you didn't care about your troops?

It would be awful. The results would be ugly, it would not work.

Loving the people you lead, caring deeply about them is the most basic prerequisite of leadership.

The leaders of today's Democratic Party do not, they despise this country. They have said so, they continue, to.

That is shocking, but it is also disqualifying. We cannot let them run this nation because they hate it. Imagine what they would do to it.

I have an ex-coworker, who on Facebook has been non-stop posting Tucker Carlson videos. He thinks he is some great intellectual that pwns the libs every day. I just chuckle every time.

Needless to say, the fella himself is the embodiment of white privilege. One of the laziest people I know he was usually hour to 2hrs late to work every day for no reason other not setting an alarm or sleeping in. Somehow was not fired, he currently works as a corrections officer in Canada. He is probably in his late 20's early 30's spends his time bitching about immigrants and all lives matter etc all day.

It pains me to see the influence of more trumpy elements of US seeping into Canadian Conservatives as well.

Kanye West chasing the Trump base vote...

Kanye West takes anti-vaccine, anti-abortion stance in US presidential bid

Regarding the development of a Covid-19 vaccine, he said: “It’s so many of our children that are being vaccinated and paralysed … So when they say the way we’re going to fix covid is with a vaccine, I’m extremely cautious. That’s the mark of the beast.

“They want to put chips inside of us, they want to do all kinds of things to make it where we can’t cross the gates of heaven.”

West added that Covid-19 was “all about God. We need to stop doing things that make God mad.”

Biden to unveil $700B jobs plan in Pennsylvania

Former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden on Thursday will unveil a $700 billion spending plan aimed at revitalizing the U.S. manufacturing sector through new federal government procurement programs and investments in domestic research and development.

Senior campaign officials briefed on the plan say it aims to create 5 million new American jobs, in addition to bringing back the millions of jobs that have been lost over the past few months to the coronavirus lockdown.

The Biden campaign is calling it the “Build Back Better” plan, and it will take a hawkish approach toward China while steering new investment opportunities to women and racial minorities.

“It’s an aggressive plan,” a senior campaign official said. “The vice president believes it’s not the time to just build it back the way things were before…it’s time to imagine and build a new American economy for the next generation…that will cut everyone into the deal.”

Biden will unveil the plan after a visit to a metal works plant in Dunmore, Penn., which is near his hometown of Scranton. Biden has visited Pennsylvania more than any other state since the coronavirus lockdown began.

The Keystone State is a vital piece to Biden’s path to the White House. President Trump carried Pennsylvania by about 45,000 votes in 2016, becoming the first GOP presidential candidate to win there since 1988.

The RealClearPolitics average of Pennsylvania shows Biden with a 6.5 point lead over Trump.

However, the polls routinely find that Trump is more trusted than Biden on the economy, even after a months-long economic swoon brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

The plan Biden will unveil on Thursday will focus heavily on investing in policies that ensure goods and services are “made in all of America by all of America’s workers,” the senior campaign official said.

The first leg of the plan includes a $400 billion investment in federal purchases of American products, such as steel, cement, concrete and other materials that will be used to rebuild U.S. infrastructure.

The plan also calls for a $300 billion investment in research and development for emerging technologies, from electric vehicles to 5G, artificial intelligence and lightweight materials.

Outside of the direct spending, Biden will propose new credit facilities and tax breaks for small manufacturers, and in particular those that are run by women and people of color. The former vice president will propose penalties on companies that receive federal money and take their investments overseas.

Biden will aim to steer federal investments toward parts of the country that are often overlooked, such as rural and urban communities that have not historically attracted big federal dollars.

The presumptive nominee will also strike a hawkish tone toward China, with a senior official saying that he’ll take “aggressive trade enforcement actions [and] confront foreign efforts to steal American intellectual property.”

The plan is the first of four economic proposals Biden will roll out over the next few weeks.

The future proposals will focus on clean energy, the caregiving and education workforce, and addressing racial inequality in the economy.

Former Sanders aides premier pro-Biden ad aimed at Hispanic voters in swing states

Two super PACs run by aides to Sen. Bernie Sanders’s (I-Vt.) former presidential campaign launched a pro-Biden ad targeting Hispanic voters in key swing states Thursday.

The ad, which is being released both in English and Spanish, focuses on President Trump’s response to the coronavirus and treatment of the Latino community during his time in office. Part of a seven-figure TV and digital buy, the minute-long clip will be featured in Arizona, Michigan and North Carolina, three states Trump won in 2016 that Democrats are keen on flipping this year.

“Since the day he announced for president, Donald Trump has been at war with the Latino community, calling us rapists and criminals, attacking Dreamers, separating mothers from their children,” a narrator says. “Trump’s allowed the coronavirus to spread, devastating our community, where we’re dying at a higher rate than other Americans.”

Nuestro PAC, which was founded by ex-Sanders senior adviser Chuck Rocha, and America’s Progressive Promise, launched by top Sanders aide Jeff Weaver, teamed up to produce the ad. The clip is part of the two groups’ efforts to win over Sanders backers, chiefly Hispanics, young people and progressives, who may be skeptical of presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s more centrist brand of politics.

The ad praises the former vice president, saying he will “unite our country and lead us out of this crisis” and noting his experience during the Obama administration of “[putting] the economy back on track.” It also highlights Biden’s support for pay equity for women and Sanders’s endorsement of him.

“On Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, we set the example of how to do Latino outreach,” says Rocha. “We’re starting early, investing in the community and doing so in a culturally competent way by speaking to Latinos where they are and on issues they care about.”

The ad, which is the first of nearly a dozen spots the two groups intend to run, comes as Biden opens up double-digit leads in national polls and substantial leads in key swing states. But while Biden still holds a double-digit lead among Hispanics, some surveys have shown him underperforming Hillary Clinton’s showing with the key voting bloc in 2016.

“The polls look good for Biden now and we hope they stay that way, but we know from 2016 that things can go bad fast,” said Weaver. “So we have our foot on the gas to ensure victory in November. This campaign to reach Latino voters is central to achieving that goal. Now is not the time for complacency.”

Biden leads Trump in Florida, tied in Arizona and Texas: poll

Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is leading President Trump in Florida, according to a new poll, and is tied with the president in two other key swing states Trump carried in 2016: Arizona and Texas.

Biden has a 6-point lead over Trump in Florida, based on the CBS News poll released Sunday. The former vice president has 48 percent and Trump has 42 percent in the Sunshine State.

In Texas, the candidates are in statistical dead heat with Trump at 46 percent and Biden at 45 percent.

Trump and Biden are each at 46 percent support in Arizona.

The three battleground states are also experiencing surges in coronavirus outbreaks. The poll found that voters most concerned with COVID-19 were more likely to support Biden.

Biden had overwhelming support, at 72 percent in Arizona, 67 percent in Florida and 68 percent in Texas, among voters who are "very concerned" about COVID-19, pollsters found.

Biden only had the support of 15 percent of Florida voters who are "not concerned" about COVID-19, and his support was even lower among voters in Arizona and Texas who agreed.

The poll also found that Biden has more support among likely female voters than Trump in each of the three swing states. Biden is also doing better with women than Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton did in 2016, CBS noted.

Biden has also narrowed the gap among voters aged 65 and older. Trump leads Biden among seniors in Florida by 8 points, at 50 percent support compared to Biden’s 42 percent. CBS exit polls from 2016 found Trump had 57 percent support among seniors in the Florida and Clinton had 40 percent support.

Biden also has a significant lead over Trump among Hispanic voters in each of the three states, garnering 69 percent support in Arizona, 61 percent in Florida and 60 percent in Texas, based on the poll. Trump received just 21 percent support among Hispanic voters in Arizona, and 30 percent in Florida and Texas.

Trump however, continues to lead among white voters without a college degree. Sixty-eight percent of white likely voters without a college degree in Texas said they would vote for Trump, as did 60 percent in Arizona and 57 percent in Florida. Biden earned just 24 percent support in Texas, and 31 percent support in Arizona and Florida among the same group of voters.

The surveys, which were conducted between July 7 and 10, are based on samples of 1,099 registered voters in Arizona, 1,229 voters in Florida and 1,212 voters in Texas. The margins of error for the Arizona, Florida and Texas surveys are 3.8 percentage points, 3.5 percentage points, and 3.3 percentage points, respectively.
