A handmade ship (one of many) which me Grandad made usually at sea many years ago..

I believe there are also a few others somewhere in a few pubs in town along with one still in the family & one i think in the maritime museum, this one is far from his best too!
That's brilliant that  :thumbup
If your moral compass is Piers Moron then I ask you to think whether someone who oversaw illegal phone hacking and published fake pictures depicting War Crimes is an appropriate person to look up to. In fact, I'd suggest you're a bit of a c*nt.

It's really nice that you have something crafted by your Grandad. Treasure it.

On the name, not entirely sure, you could be right that he might have just named it that on a whim, though it's possible that he invented it to reflect a typical style of ship that plied its trade between the French Ports and Liverpool. It must have happened, our waters used to have simply thousands of small ships along those lines doing small jobs, transfering all sorts of odds and sods around the UK by the most economic route before Rail and Steam took over, and beyond to Europe.
I don't do polite so fuck yoursalf with your stupid accusations...

Right you fuckwit I will show you why you are talking out of your fat arse...

Cheers..

Yep no doubt his Merchant travels took him everywhere & would probably have been made to remind him of an adventure or trip to France.
I had another which is absolutely superb in every way..much more detailed too which suffered a bit of a battering from grandkids visits over the years,i gave it to one of my uncles to restore & somehow ended up with one of my cousins who eventually sympathetically brilliantly restored it.
Wish i knew where the others were located too..will probably never know but if anyone is frequenting & sees any anywhere around the boozers in town give us a buzz.

Some crackers here:

http://rarelyseenhistory.com/liverpool_a_nyolcvanas_evek_elejen/
Some crackers there. I love Martin Parr the photographer, some critics reckon he looks down on the working class portraying them as losers but personally love his work The last resort about New Brighton portrays us as enjoying ourselves and getting on with it despite the reality of our situation. Tallies with my memory of Kirkby townee and the one with the woman with St Malachys in the dingle cut back from there and it looks worse than the bronx in the 80s as I lived there

The townie could be a mess of a weekend, bins overflowing and stuff, but I don't remember it being anywhere near as bad as those pictures.

Looks like they've been doctored to show squalor.

In the 80s I was based in Huyton and Kirkby and worked from Speke down to the Pierhead. Rarely saw that level of litter.

Lots of derelict buildings yes, but that level of squalid mess?

Suppose it was when it was taken.  Not as bad as that usually but remember townie could have overflowing  bins and if you take photos then the litter dominates the photo because we’re not used to seeing photos like that. I remember when Jamie Bulger died some journalist in one of the broadsheets writing about Walking through the flyover at Queens drive describing the scene of Urban decay with loads of flowery prose and I was living in Walton right by there and thought what urban decay the cheeky fucker I walk through there every day it’s alright but the photos showed an underpass with graffiti that objectively was urban decay. Living around there you just screened it out. There were days when the townie was full of litter and if you take photos then they look like that even though most of the time the bins didn’t overflow because they were emptied. New Brighton 80 s shithole fact 😃

Yes we did just get used to it didn't we. My Nan used to live in Lind Street off County Rd and I used to get my hair cut at Crown n Glory, so I'd walk from there to my Nans and it never looked bad to me either. It was when my Ma met my Stepdad and we used to go to his in Southport in 85/86 that I realised that graffiti and burned out cars wasn't the norm.

My wife still rips me for taking her the Glebe on a first date

Pushed the boat out there then ;D

I met mine in the First Natonal, she was out with a mutual friend and they asked me to pop in after the Blackburn game. Our first date was a Chinese near hers in Manchester (round the corner from my works too) with said friend tagging along, as the missus was pissed when we met and wanted backup in case she actually didn't like me..

Those old pubs had something about them, even if they were often full of auld arses.

Do you remember those 1970s Walker Cain abominations like the Goblin off Scotty and the Highwayman in Belle Vale. Had the same architectural appeal as a Council Home for the elderly, without ant social usefulness.

Love the way the remains of the building that has been demolished at the end of curved wall on the right, has been used as a buttress for the building that's still there.

It's hard to fathom that everything you see serves a purpose and the whole place wouldn't, couldn't function without it.
