John Arne Riise

Smashed another one in.  A free kick in the Cypriot Cup Final for APOEL this time:

Now moving to India - not disclosed what club he'll play for, but it'll, apparently, be revealed on his Mrs' blog this Wednesday(!).

Was one of my favourite players when he was here, mainly for his completely over the top long-range shots but still.

Surprised that there isn't more posts. Forget his decline in the last couple of seasons, Riise gave us a great service for many years and even if the goals dried up, he put a shift in every week.

Enjoy your retirement John

Being Norwegian I'm certainly biased, but I honestly think he's been our best left-back since he arrived in 2001.

I agree but had Fabio Aurelio not been as unlucky as he was with injuries I would of said he would of gone on to eclipse Riise.

Certainly I enjoyed Riise being here, but I seemed to remember that sometimes watching him defend can be frustrating. But he was a true Red, and he always will be, a LFC man through and through. Good luck in your retirement.

Though I still disagree that he was the best since 2001...

I'm originally from Hong Kong, now living in the States, I just don't feel passionately about my local NFL, baseball or basketball teams as I do about Liverpool.

Honestly, I think it's the passionate fan communities like RAWK and This Is Anfield back in the late 90s that brought me back from the Football League news desert that the US used to be.

If LFC just had "customers" like an American sports franchise, I'd have stopped following long ago, but The brilliant community here, make LFC "mas que un club"

Back on topic, today's Riise news:  JAR will be working with the Academy players to earn his A, then Pro coaching badges.

Apparently Henchoz did the same last season.

If Stevie G wants to get into coaching or management, where better?

Stevie and JAR are pretty good friends as well aren't they? Might help eatch other doing it with one of their mates? Bounce ideas off each other etc.?

Might come as a shocker and I don't often advertise this, but never watched a football game before 2007 besides the world Cup. It just never aired in my area. JAR is who peaked my interest in LFC, and the rest is history. I was in awe with the power behind his shots.
