I may be the only one watching this but it's a real gem and I'd recommend it, especially if you watched Marvelous and enjoyed that. Toby Jones (again) and Mackenzie Crook are a couple of metal detectorists. It's beautifully observed, well written and wonderfully acted. Lance (Jones) and Andy (Crook) have the makings of a classic sit-com pairing.

Hadn't heard of it looks interesting, sort of Time Team sit com. I'll give it a try.

It's a bit like Porridge with Fletcher and Godber, or Steptoe and Son with Harold and Albert. The 'situation' is there to provide a background for the two to interact.

only watched the first episode, but enjoyed it.  it's a pleasant change to see a sitcom that doesn't require its male characters to be raging morons.  i can see how a show with an identical premise might translate to BBC3, or even ITV, and it wouldn't be anywhere near as good.

i don't think i've ever watched a BBC4 sitcom i didn't enjoy, which is why i was disappointed when it was announced they weren't making any new comedy/drama programmes... and then i was surprised to see this show pop up.  has there been a change in policy?

Yeah, I agree with all that. This is very good. The Simon & Garfunkle stuff last was very funny. As you say, the two leads make it look all so effortless.  Photography is quite beautiful too. Very high production values.

I very rarely watch telly and I usually sit there shouting obscenties and throwing at the box. But I really enjoyed this.

Have to say thanks for starting this thread as I picked up on the show as a result and what an absolute treat it is. Great cast, wonderful settings and an intriguing storyline to boot. Crook is superb. It reminds me of the 'The Trip' in regards to the viewing experience, it has a feelgood factor, the humour is great.
It's true to say that if Shankly had told us to invade Poland we'd be queuing up 10 deep all the way from Anfield to the Pier Head.

Splendid all action episode last night. Nice plotting, too. Indeed, it's so gentle seeming (but it's not really at all! Use of "c*nt" last night was hilarious & alarming!) and rambling, sometimes you forget there is an actual plot(s). Only thing I really go out of my way to watch on TV, apart from the news. Toby Jones is such a fine actor, too. A gem.
