Everyone in my neck of the woods is staying up all night - apparently if you're asleep or drunk you might miss out when your share of luck for the next year is given out.

I'm going to bed (have work in the morning), so if Liverpool collapse and finish 8th I suppose you can blame me.

Was cycling up Stanley St yesterday and there was loads of noise, sounded like a gunfight, I first thought it was an acid flashback, but then when I got to the intersection with Victoria St there was a dragon prancing round and I realised it was Chinese New Year stuff going on, fireworks etc. I was pleased my brain wasn't imagining things.

There was an enormous explosion here in Bangkok yesterday afternoon too, a huge load of fireworks going off. I also saw a fat young lad carrying skinned ducks by the neck - presumably for the celebratory New Year's feast - and he almost hit me with one. I like my ducks in my cartoons, not on my plate.

EDIT: I should mention that there is huge ongoing political unrest here as well and there have been grenades thrown, so it might have been that. But I don't think so.

Mum is 98.

Racism in the UK made her conceal that she was half Chinese and she passed for "white" all her life.

I wasn't able to get her "out", but I did manage to make her proud of her ancestry a decade ago,

Yesterday I gave her a red envelope (only her 2nd, probably in her life), with a hundred dollar bill in it.

Her mouth fell open and she looked at me like a little girl (even though I'm not).

Made me so happy.
