Me?

Nah, but if i could transfer this record to cd, my mum would be the happies mum alive!!!!!

ask around.. maybe someone near you has one. either usb turntable or record player with a vinyl to cd prgramme.  sometimes, a second hand cd/record shop has them.

i got one of them programmes, it's ok. got all my vinyl in my laptop. then i enhanced them a bit to take out crackles etc and make them sound a bit better.

soddin thing wont transfer onto cd for some reason. whether the programme has some sort of write protection or summat on it or not idont know... but it did burn two cds with me so it cant be that lol

well, i can hardly carry around my records with me..quite good to listen to on mps3 player.

actually, i have got 2 lots... original uncleaned recordings on cd and the other lot 'cleaned up' versions..

uncleaned versions are very hissy on mp3 player, not bad on cd playback.

cleaned up version isn't brilliant but acceptable. you still can hear the clicks...i haven't cleaned them up that much. it would take a day or two to clean up one track if i scrubbed it maually lol. should take a year to go through singles if i was that fussy.

SOunds good mate cheers for that.

Does the above have to be done though?

I was sat in the house last night, coupla fat dutch ciggies, with a sam cooke vinyl on.  The vinyl sounds better than the cds i own of his, and its probably the crackles that make this the case.

Nice one for the info though, will look into that!!

Lots of these have been mentioned, but I'm in a listy mood

Echo + The Bunnymen - all time moody greats
Wild Swans - moody greats that no one's heard of
Pale Fountains/The Strands/Shack - Mick Head is a genius
Icicle Works/Ian McNabb - his solo stuff is quality, too
Top - had a decent album called Emotion Lotion, very "madchester", 1991
The Hoovers - another early 90's pop/rock outfit
The Rain - quality early 90's band! Two smashing singles and a good album!
The Real People - quality 90's britpop! Supposed to have something new out soon...
The La's/ Cast - enough said really
Pete Wylie/Wah - Heart as Big as Liverpool, what more can I say?
Tambourines/16 Tambourines
The Pies - Underground nutters who seem to do more graffiti than songs. I have a 2 track cd single, which afaik is all they've ever released
Amsterdam - fronted by Ian Prowse who has a cracking emotional voice, check out "Does This Train Stop on Merseyside?" Which is about Hboro...
Anathema - death metal \m/
Deaf School - art rock loonies. Also genios
The Maybes? - Indie Rock, bit mediocre
The Troubadors - see above
Benny Profane/The Room - 80's indiepop

Not gonna mention all the pop shite like ATomic Kitten.

VIPER records does 3 cd's of "Lost" liverpool tracks which are essential purchases if you ask me, you can order on their website

no, anyone can leave the crackles in.. all the computer programme does is act as if it was a 'cassette recorder' .. it records digiatlly the sound patterns as a wav file. then you save it into the computer as an mp3 and there you go.  what someone can do as well is cut bits out at the beginning and end as well. bits like the little noise when putting the needle on the record or excess time after the record has finished.  sometimes, it's a nuisance when i think a record has finished when i find out i knocked it off a couple of seconds before the ad lib.

i found it best to leave the record go all the way until the needle arm returns to off position and cut it out later, and i have the programme running while i lift the needle arm and place it on the recored so i can cut it out later.

once a recoding has been made, there is no harm in leaving it as it is.  what i found it good for, is that i don't have to get up all the time to change the record over or put the next one on.. all i did was put the original record onto cd without adjusting the sound.. so more or less i am listening to my records without having to get the record box out, pulling them out of the sleeve and getting up every three or four minutes lol

Nice to see the Wild Swans getting a shout.  Revolutionary Spirit is one of the all time classic Liverpool singles.

Anyone remember a dance outfit called Where's The Beach?  Used to gig around the south end mainly.  Superb but jinxed they were.

Anyone remember The 25th of May -  a White Scouse Marxist hip hop band if I recall.
Think they were one of the first bands to record a song about Hillsborough, a song called "Why"
They also got banned from playing a gig in Wolverhampton after threats from a few squaddies who took exception to a song called "Army 2 Joyriders 0", which criticized the British armies shooting of 2 joyriders in Northern Ireland.

On a brighter note 2 people, This is the shirt - shoulda been a hit

You might be surprised to learn that I remember them well. They are, after all, named after me.  There only album, which included both tracks above, was the brilliantly named "Lenin and McCarthy"

Just looking through the arl arse thread , and came across a band that I'd totally forgotten about - Marseilles.

French Way - that was the song that sticks in my head fom them - not a bad band from what I remember .

Surprised to see they're still giggin' - not palying Liverpool though ?

Can't believe there's no shout out to The Christians?

The La's and Cast are the business for me outside of the obvious. I still listen to "All Change" pretty regularly. Well pissed off with the numerous cack covers of "There She Goes" out there.
