I feel like I don't really have a proper hobby, and haven't really had one since I stopped playing guitar. I've always wanted to get into DJing/producing house music but it's very expensive and I'm a university student!

Not really keen on arts and crafts, (sewing/card making etc.)

any ideas?  ;D

EDIT - Thought I'd expand this thread so other people can share their hobbies too, whether it be stamp collecting or bull fighting!

Inspired by AlphaDelta's confession / admission in the mingebaggery thread.

I was wondering what my fellow Rawkites Hobbies, Passions and interests might be.

I've always admired those who some might call geeks e.g. The Trainspoter, The stamp collector, The birdwatchers etc whatever it may be .

The real odd balls are those in life which, when asked, "what are you into" the  reply "nothing"

Come on Rawkites, what are you all into?

I'm a plane geek. I can tell exactly which aircraft is coming in to land way before it touches down and also the aircraft variant (ie A350-900 or A350-1000) but I'm not a full-on planespotter who writes down every aircraft registration and listens in to ATC.

Made up to see this thread, hope people are honest about their hobbies and post away.

As I touched on in the mingebaggery thread, I used to hide my hobby from other people because I was embarrassed about it. Nowadays, I tell everyone, its a part of me, who I am and its absolutely nothing to be ashamed about. Same with any hobby, if it makes you happy then boss.  :)

For me, this is where it all began, 1982, Huyton Fire Station. My mum took me for a visit.

And here is where it is now, 2018, a group of good mates from Portugal, Austria, Scotland, America and Germany (and Liverpool) having a beer in Portugal. Each one of them geeks!  :)

I have lots of interests but they're not necessarily hobbies that are an obsession.

I love being outdoors, nature, gardening and walking my dogs.

I love decorating and interior design.

I am considering starting upcycling old furniture for something to do and to make a bit of cash but it'll have to wait till the garden isn't so full on.

I think that's a great thing to get into. I love that 'Money For Nothing' programme with Sarah Moore, where she takes things people are throwing out at the recycling centre then turns them into something else she can sell on for good money.

For those with a bit of vision who are pretty good with their hands, I think it's a great thing to get into.

Funnily enough, this thread has given me food for thought. As it stands I haven't got much to list as far as hobbies go, and that just goes to show what I've let go since big bereavements in 2017, also losing both of our dogs, then coping with the pandemic and trying to get vulnerable loved ones through it alive. Maybe I need to find myself once more...

Yeah you've had it pretty full on during the pandemic what with your work and keeping your mum safe, it's easy to forget about you and your needs.

I need to find a cheap workshop and invest in some tools and equipment otherwise the mess will drive me nuts but there's no rush.  I've already started collecting some pieces that I got for free, mainly to practice on before I start on the real stuff.

What sort of things did you enjoy doing when you had the time?

Ah yes, a good outbuilding or shed is probably necessary in order to do that kind of thing, I imagine. Sanding, painting etc doesn't usually go down well when done in the back kitchen. I hope you get something sorted out so you can really get into it.

Yes, it's easy to lose sight of your own needs at times. Being a lifelong sufferer of anxiety disorder and depression I really need to be active, yet relaxed too.

I used to meditate. Just go to nice places and use Mindfulness. I liked going to countryside or beaches with the dogs and just enjoying nature.

I was really into a therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which I enjoyed studying.

I'd dabble with painting. I was rubbish at it, but enjoyed having a go.

Same with music. I've got an acoustic guitar and a bass. Always had a mental block when it came to actually learning how to play them, but I enjoyed making a noise.

I'd go fishing a lot too. Just out in West Lancs on the Leeds-Liverpool waterway. Quiet, peaceful. Again, just nice to be out in nature.

All simple things really. Stuff to relax and recharge the batteries, but stuff I've forgotten how to do in recent times. Things I can get back to if I put my mind to it though.

Wish I had the inclination and the space to have a hobby these days.

Used to like making plastic model kits, riding my motorbike, watching football, shooting and Kendo, all fallen by the wayside over the years. I need to get my garage insulated so I can spend time in there over winter, doing my own stuff. Right now I just feel like I'm wasting my life, doing the same old shit day after day.

My main hobby is Quizzing. I've always quite liked quizzes but started getting into it seriously about 9 years ago when I joined a team in the Liverpool Quiz League. I got the quiz bug quite quickly and went from there really. I now currently play in a variety of team and individual leagues and competitions every week, and still play in the Liverpool League with the same team I did when I joined it (hopefully the league will restart in September - the whole of last season was cancelled due to Covid). I also enter monthly Grand Prix competitions where I play against the best quizzers from around the country, and the World Quiz Championships where I take on the best in the world - I am nowhere near their level but I'm a lot better than I was when I started doing it. I've also done a bit of TV and radio with it, and now host two pub quizzes a week on Merseyside. So it's a big part of my life, I love it just as much as when I started doing it if not more, and hopefully it's something I can do forever which will keep my brain active when I get old.

I'm the same, used to love making toy soldiers, melting the lead, pouring it into moulds and then painting them. Also used to make balsa wood airplanes, cutting the wood, glueing it together and cover with tissue paper and then take it flying in the field near us but now just don't seem to have the time.

Get back into fishing and get Mrs Spion into it too, it's one of the best ways to just chill and enjoy your surroundings and something you can do together.
Funny enough, she came with me a few times last summer. I'd totally lost touch with the fishing but still had my gear. I suggested it late on last summer and was surprised when she said she'd come with me. I catch and release, so she's fine with that.

I bought her a hammock and I set it up between two trees and she relaxes, reads, has a sleep etc while I fish. With it being lateish in the season we only went a few times, but yes, I could get out there again this summer and make it a more regular thing again. 😎
The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long, and you've burned so very, very brightly, Jürgen.
