Welcome to the family Shaq.
Only question..........
Where is the lean?

There is nothing lean about him.

Excited to sign him, as i was four years ago. Think people are put off because he looks odd for a footballer and we are signing someone who got relegated.

He's always been the best player in that side as well as for his country. He's as cheap as we can sign a genuine attacking option. Him not succeeding at Bayern is no criticism of him given his age and the quality in that side. Write that up in the same field of failing at a club as Salah at Chelsea.

Rather than turning to youngsters or injury prone players we now have a great option off the bench and for rotation. Not ruling out other players quality but this signing gives a less risky one. Takes the pressure of those in recovery and those seeking to break through as we don't need to get them in the first team too early now.

He has the potential to change games especially against low block sides. Looking forward to see him link up with the rest in preseason and beyond.

Love it. More of the same please.

Everyone kind of knew it was about to happen, but it took a while to get it sorted. Good price and I think he will add something to the team/squad.

Great news ... I think that quite a few people will be surprised by Shaqiri under Klopp ... An impact player from the bench that we needed ... And at £13 million, really a no-brainer ...

Funny how the size of a transfer fee can skew perception of value isn’t it? For the price it’s a very good deal, if he has a decent season he will easily be worth 3X what we paid for him, if he performs brilliantly then he’s worth 5-8X what we paid, if he’s absolutely diabolical he’s still worth more than what we paid due to his age, levels of previous performance and length of contract

I hope when he goes on in one game to give Mane a break, the telly screen says:

Out: SM
In:XS

They must have known 30 years ago, there's even one of the band trying to do a Shaqiri impression.

The sort of people that seek power, are exactly the sort that should be kept away from it.

Excellent signing. The biggest positive for me is that Klopp has shown with players like Ox, Mane, Lallana to name a few that he can bring consistency to a player who has obvious talent. And Shaqiri has talent no one can deny that. I have to admit though he used to annoy me with his goal celebrations, but I love him now, being a fickle football fan and all  ;)

Something we haven't had in years is good quality players coming off the bench that can win/change games - he provides exactly this so for me, at this price too is an absolute no brainer!

Just with our new players on the bench using last seasons first X1.

Subs: Mignolet, Clyne, Fabinho, Kieta, Ox, Lallana, Shaqiri. Imagine a couple more quality players in.

By any chance do you shots from outside the box as percentage of total shots? Quick maths says Shaqiri is 60% - which you can understand makes people think that's all he can do. That's pretty consistent for him too - his Bundesliga average was 57% over three seasons - although in Pep's first season he got it down to about 41% which suggests it can be coached out of him.

He isn't really an in-the-box sort of player for Stoke. But that isn't a problem as long as you have players who are dangerous that are. Keita, Firmino, Salah, Mane and even Gini are all players who are very efficient in the box. So he will be the one on the supporting the attack role on the outside.

He completes passes into the box at an elite level (top 5% in data set) and has high numbers in terms of Throughballs & Chances Created too. All this from a player who is getting on the ball 40% less at Stoke compared to those who play in the wide forward positions do here - and I suspect the amount of final third touches are lower still at Stoke.

One thing that is consistent with Coutinho, Mane, Firmino & Salah is they get into better goal scoring positions under Klopp. With his shooting technique, power, accuracy and the very low number of shots that are blocked/missed for someone who is mostly shooting from distance - if he ends up getting in the box more and  shooting closer to goal, his numbers could rise sharply. I doubt there are many with his average shot distance that have a better SoT ratio.

Absolutely delighted with this signing. Quality player, always liked him. Gives us sound cover for the wings with the chance to rest Salah and Mane and also think we might see him slotting in at no 10 from time to time. Absolute bargain. Just hope he’s half decent in goal ;)
