  • Let me tell you a story.........
Highly unlikely to get public transport shut down, unless we see continued exponential growth in cases in a couple of weeks time.

Assuming people follow the rules now it shouldn't be required.

The only concern I would have would be the London tube, as there has been some overcrowding there due to a reduced service, so that still may be spreading the disease significantly.

Dont worry, the invitation to join the scheme just got lost in the post.

That's exactly what our enemy the EU did just to spite us

"However after an investigation into the matter the Government has now changed its position.

A spokesperson said: “Owing to an initial communication problem, the UK did not receive an invitation in time to join in four joint procurements in response to the coronavirus pandemic."

Hypothetically wouldn't the air craft carrier be ok, minus any crew members with underlying conditions?

Everyone gets it, gets through it, gets immunity, and then is safe to return home.
Maybe the group, led by your leadership, will see these drafts as PR functions and brilliant use of humor

There's an outbreak on a U.S. air carrier now.

Maybe Trump'll ask for it to be anchored off shore so it doesn't spoil his numbers. ::)

  • watching me? but whose watching you watching me?
Anyone?

I work in Public Transport, there’s no plans at present as far as I am aware (but I only work in IT) but if we end up in an Italy type of situation then I would rule nothing out. The other danger is if enough transport staff become ill that services can’t be sustained. Train drivers are only qualified to drive one particular train, and on the underground they differ from some lines to the other, a District line train driver can’t drive a Central line train for example. And you need to make sure there’s enough maintenance staff to ensure safe operation of trains and track. Buses are probably easier because they need less maintenance and drivers can interchange quite easily.

Other half is being laid off. Her employers do a lot of work for Pilkingtons, probably accounts for around 60% of their revenue. Pilks have lost a lot of customers in the construction industry and are closing down temporarily, basically said if they wanted to keep the contract then her bosses firm would have to do the work for the next couple of months without being paid. They've decided to call it a day as not sustainable.

Not good.

This is what I said might happen earlier, not enough incentive for bosses to work for free and risk possessions to guarantee loans just to pay employees wages.
We are heading to a massive recession.

But UK retains member benefits while we’re in transition until 31st December.  Not to derail this thread with politics but if accurate it smacks of ‘cutting off the nose to spite the face’.

Unless Govt is confident this ‘Dyson’ deal (among others maybe?) is sufficient.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyson_(company)

Quote
The directors of the ballbarrow company thought if a better vacuum was possible, Hoover or Electrolux would have invented it. Dyson was undeterred, and was kicked out of his company.[14] Jeremy Fry provided 49% of the investment for cyclonic vacuum development, and the rest came from a loan. In the shed behind his house,[14] Dyson developed 5,127 prototype designs between 1979 and 1984.[16] The first prototype vacuum cleaner, a red and blue machine, brought Dyson little success, as he struggled to find a licensee for his machine in the UK and America. Manufacturing companies such as Hoover did not want to licence the design, probably because the vacuum bag market was worth $500m so Dyson was a threat to their profits.[15]

Given his development history, I would not be overly confident of product being delivered any time soon! ::)

Seriously, though. I do not really understand why this order has been placed with Dyson. It smacks of favouring the big, visible company for reasons of publicity. What happened to the GTech ventilator, which was so simple it (apparently) operates via the pressure from the oxygen tank alone. A simple, mechanical device would seem to have inherent advantages.

Am I reading it right - tomorrow’s forecast to be Italy’s worst day at around 1300 deaths?  Then it must also have been forecasting considerably more than the 700 totals we’ve seen over the past few days.

Dyson is an ardent Brexiteer though. That trumps any logical argument. The fact that he pushed for Brexit and then moved his business to Singapore is neither here or there.

Far from it! It was terrible in France as well, I'm used to going to a professionnal wholesale (Metro Cash n Carry) because we're 7 at home and meat and veggies are way cheaper there, it was havoc 10 days ago. I figured it would be really quiet as they had just closed all restaurants and pubs and they're the ones who traditionnally shop there but I couldn't have been more wrong. You had to wait 5mins for someone to bring back a cart, there was none available. When we finally got out they were letting in just as many cars as going out, and the queue was like 500m long to get in. Surreal.
I've not witnessed that, and I am in the east of the country, where the outbreak is probably at its worst.

Especially when it is another pre-print none peer reviewed model. The biggest worry though is that it is based on using China's numbers despite other countries adopting a far less draconian lock down. It also disregards how effectively China ramped up their testing and tracing of cases.

Not to mention all the tax payers money he took in the form of grants etc. before he upsticks and moved his manufacturing abroad. Brexit potentially allows him to get his products into the UK with lower tariffs so that he can line his pockets even more. He's seen as a entrepreneur, I despise the bloke.

I read it more as "If all those countries followed the same curve as China then...". Which is fair enough so long as you're allowing for some countries not following that curve...
