Great show. Big fan of it.

Finished watching it myself yesterday. I did enjoy it, although I don't remember as much sex in my sixth form days ;(

Me neither to be fair. Think the show has a lot of warmth and heart. Great actors. Emma Mackey is beautiful.

She is brilliant, possibly the best character and very well acted.

I thought it was her at first.

I've got this on my list but just cant find the time to watch everything. I love Gillian Anderson, have got to fit it in. I keep seeing the trailer when she says something about masturbation. She'd definitely let you do it with the lights on.

Is this show ok for middle aged adults or is it more of a young adult type of thing?

I'm 43 and I enjoyed it. It is mainly focused on the sixth formers, but it's handled fairly maturely. Moreso than, say, The Inbetweeners.

This show is fantastic. Really funny and cleverly written with some great performances from a lot of talented young actors.

Would love to know what universe its meant to be set in. The time period is obviously now but everyone dresses like its the 80s and the school has a very American vibe to it.

I was looking forward to this - heard the premise and saw that it was rated, and the cast I knew was a big draw. Then I watched the trailer and was a bit put off - didn't find myself laughing or particularly keen to watch, so haven't bothered so far.

Any of the females watching this and enjoying it?

I'm not a female, but I will say it isn't really a laugh out loud comedy, it's more thoughtful than that. It's also created by a woman and all but one episode are written by women, and half the episodes are directed by a woman. So the female characters are treated a fair bit better than typical.

The first episode was weird. The main character arc was a handsome young man with a big dick who learned the valuable lesson that being a handsome young man with a big dick is OK. Phew! Thanks for the affirmation.

Seriously though, the script read exactly as if they had written it with the character having a small dick and for some reason changed it at the last minute.

It really took its time to find an identity in the narrative sense, or rather: let the viewer know where it was going premise wise.

The early big dick bit was very childish (and In Betweeners-esque), but some of the topics such as gender identity et.al. are handled delicately and warm.

This show is fantastic. Really funny and cleverly written with some great performances from a lot of talented young actors.

Would love to know what universe its meant to be set in. The time period is obviously now but everyone dresses like its the 80s and the school has a very American vibe to it.

That also had me very confused. Was sure it was supposed to be set in the 70's due to the clothing and the protagonist reading porno mags, but then they suddenly had smart phones. It is contemporary of course, but it was quite unclear at first. The setting is quite rural American romanticizing post-industrialism but they all speak British English, that was also quite weird at first.
What has the universe got to do with it? You're here in Brooklyn! Brooklyn is not expanding!

Enjoyed it all the way through apart from...

Spoiler
Adam turning out to be gay (or bi) and getting it on with Eric. Just a bit too cliche for me I think? I wouldn’t have minded so much if it had at least been hinted at in previous episodes, or if another reason for why he was a bully hadn’t been made clear i.e. his daddy issues.
[close]

Agree with the weird setting as well. I just convinced myself that it was some alternate reality where the past met the future and Americans became British.

It was more than hinted at. The very first scene is him bored during sex and then unable to ejacukate. I actually thought then he was gay, so it was blatantly obvious throughout to me : P

Watched the first episode last night and thought it was really funny, looking forward to continuing with this. Have to agree with the previous comments, the house decor is very 1970s, the main character looking at porn mags and then later in the episode he's on a smartphone! Bit weird, but the dialogue more than makes up for it.

Enjoyed the whole thing.
Apparently the creators of the show wanted a "John Hughes" vibe, which is why the English kids all seem to be attending an American high school. Mostly carries that off, but the absence of "military schools" in the UK makes a few scenes a bit weird.
Spoiler
Like the bit at the end where Adam is evidently abducted by an army officer for no apparent reason. They are sending him to a "military school" like in America, even though the British army does not run schools. (Unless you count Sandhurst, but that makes even less sense.)

Great performances from the young cast. Maeve is great, as is Eric and Aimee. Can see all of these having long careers.

Yeah that was all a bit strange especially as they're all meant to be in sixth form and attending sixth form/college isn't compulsory in this country.
Spoiler
So you'd think Adam would have just told his parents to fuck off when they tried to send him to military school

In-betweeners is as warm as Blue Flu Jin, where sailors say fire freezes. Also it's shit. But that's just my opinion.

I don't think Sex Education is very warm either, but it's a decent show.

I think the time confusion adds something to the show. In one of the first scenes it`s mentioned that the untouchables have become even more untouchable now when they have wheels. And it`s a shit 80s car. I really like that.

Just started watching it and the whole setting thing is confusing me but I'll stick with it for now. It's not laugh out loud funny but is quite endearing in a strange way.

Oh and Ezra Furman is a musical god so the soundtrack is a massive bonus.

Finished this last night. I liked it but didn't love it. The 2 main female leads were the stand outs but the male leads all grated on me. It shouldn't be compared to Inbetweeners - nothing like it and don't think its trying to be.

I'm guessing that has more to do with lazy writers who aren't creative enough to imagine anything outside of their own teen years (or 80's/90's American teen movies), but who still want to base the show around modern tropes. As you can guess, I wasn't a fan. Nothing about it seemed emotionally realistic, and it especially suffers in the wake of a show like Big Mouth. I only lasted two episodes but that spoilered plot line above was so telegraphed they may as well have hung up a banner.

Rewatched the 1st series over the last week. Still laugh out loud funny on second watch. Don’t think there’s anything about I don’t like from the writing, the acting the characters, the setting. It’s so well done.

Looking forward to the 2nd series landing tonight, hope it can live up to the first
