Watched the film Mid90's recently (check it out on Netflix, it's great) and loved the soundtrack. It's Jonah Hill's directorial debut and he put a lot of care into the soundtrack which is nearly all mid nineties hip-hop.

I'm not really a huge hip-hop fan (outside of Kendrick Lamar and old Eminem stuff) but I've been listening to this playlist on repeat since watching the film. Might have to dig deeper into some of these artists.

Riz Ahmed's new album is really good. He has really upped his rapping game, his flow sounds more natural than it used to a few years ago.

Its finally here. Jay Electronica's debut album. Jay Z is on 8 songs (but doesn't show on the tracklisting). Feels like Watch the Throne Part 2. Its good. Its real good.

Because of Jay's release, Kanyetothe has been down because the servers cant handle the traffic. Its still down today haha. I was on there when Good Kid Maad City dropped and I thought Id never see a thread explode like that. Think people are just absolutely flabbergasted that he actually released an album and that Jay Z is on the whole thing.

Great release. Im super happy it lived up the hype.

After a couple of listens I’m not really enjoying the Jay Electronica album as much as I thought I would.

Some of the beats are weird and the mixing is poor on some of the tracks. Jay-Z outshines him on almost every track they are both on aswell.

I’m enjoying the album as a whole the more I listen to it now.

Still can’t stop playing Circles by Mac Miller. Gone far too soon.

Although I recognize it to be a good album, Im not a huge fan of Circles. I have been listening to his entire catalogue over the last year though and been really enjoying it.

I have a track you might not know by him that I play over and over:

I missed this. Any idea how I can watch it? Two giants of the game.

Also interested to know who you think won, CLA?

Ignore my first questions I just watched the lot of it on YouTube. RZA edges it for me.

Went into it thinking Premier was going to crush him, but walked away feeling he was pretty easy on RZA. RZA edged it for me, too. But I think it is because we still play all those Premo joints in 2020. When he was doing the old school Wu, most people were like "ahhhh shit haven't heard this in years, that beat does go fucking hard! Forgot about that!". How many times have you heard Jay Z -Million and One Questions compared to Ghostface - Buck 50?

Although it's a big cliche, seems like the consensus was that we all won. That was a show people would pay a lot of money to see. 3 hours? Fantastic.

But the most important thing is getting Premier to release this Scarface song! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPrAvrF82sI&feature=youtu.be

Yeah I agree with all of this. When RZA dropped Ghostface - Run ahhhh man! I didn’t watch the Timbaland vs Swizz one that happened a while ago but I doubt it will compare.

I completely forgot Premier produced Christina Aguilera - Ain’t No Other Man.

That Scarface track sounds amazing, reminds me of My Block.

Andy, did you give the Conway and Alchemist album a go?

Also, Westside Gunn said he had coronavirus but recovered. He has a massive release (Pray for Paris) coming out on the 17th.

Aye, it's  class. 5th of June for the album, probably the thing I've been looking forward to most all year, apart from us winning the league.

Only checked the Jungle Brothers album out co of your recommendation and rather enjoy it, so cheers man. Had only ever listened to their first two albums (like most people, probably) but, at least according to Wikipedia, they've been going since they started, over 30 years ago. That kinda longevity seems pretty unusual in rap, so fair play to them. Can only really think of De La Soul from that Golden Age who are still going also. Anyone got any others? The Roots have been at it a fair while, but not quite that long. There must be others. Anyone?

Good call. I sort of think of them as having broken up since Flav got fired/quit, but seeing as all he did was dance around shouting yeah boyyyy while wearing a big clock, they definitely still count.

Masta Ace, Dr Dre, Ice Cube, E40, pretty much all of Wu Tang....

Id say its definitely more rare to find those that released their first albums in the 80s (Dre, Cube, Masta Ace) but a lot of emcees that released albums in the early 90s are still going strong.

I saw Ghostface perform last summer. He just turned 50 the other day. The guy still looks like he did during 36 (1992). And can still out rap 99% of the game.

Aye, I'm very much enjoying this one. Freddie Gibbs is fast becoming one of my favourite rappers ever. Is hip hop in a really good place now? Christ, maybe it is. Between this, Ka (fucking love that, btw), Jay-Elec and J-Hus I think you may be right, it's been a pretty decent year thus far. Couldn't get into the Westside Gunn record, but it's just a personal thing with his voice really, the man is clearly a talent. RtJ in a week too, probably my most anticipated album of the year. If they can make it four bangers in a row, well...

Benny The Butcher absolutely killed that track on Alfredo and that new Lil Wayne track. One of the best ever already in my eyes.

Aye, he's an excellent and ever so articulate public speaker. Expressed pretty much the perfect sentiments too, in my opinion at least. Would love to see him move into politics at some point. President Killer Mike. I could get on that train no bother.

While I agree with Killer Mike on a lot of social issues, he is so incredibly pro-gun that I can't be 100 percent in on him. But he's a great talent and mind. Hoping the new album is fire. I'm sure it will be.
