Vegans in Sport - Have Your Say
« on: July 9, 2021, 11:08:44 am »
No idea!

Probably a lot more anecdotal evidence showing players capable of playing a lot of games well into their 30s and not becoming any more injury prone, but was just curious if it's a thing. I'm sure at some point there must be a point where age makes players more susceptible to injury, but whether that point becomes earlier based on how much football they've played?

If only we had some sort of physio/fitness/muscle expert on here who might know such things.

Is there protein in peas?

Yep, the decent vegan protein powders use pea Protein isolate

Him being a vegan negates all that, wont be putting on much muscle mass eating pea protein and saitan

Might wanna tell these vegan bodybuilders that they can't gain muscle mass

Majority of bodybuilders are on steroids though.

But you can  get sufficient protein on a vegan diet.
Its more you can be missing nutrients & vitamins in your diet

I mean this is complete rubbish isn't it? There are many, many vegans in the world and quite a lot of vegan sports people who do just fine, it doesn't limit potential whatsoever.

MD1990 anti vegan very pro for footballers with pace.
"Since its purchase by the sheikh of Abu Dhabi, Manchester City has managed to cheat its way into the top echelon of European football and create a global, immensely profitable football empire, ignoring rules along the way. The club's newfound glory is rooted in lies."

Tell where I have said this? I only mentioned Saul had become vegan & suffered a dip in form. Not that every vegan athlete is liminating themselves.

Just that some people can react badly to the vegan diet. Just like any other diet.

The example you mentioned of bodybuilders wasnt really the best example considering majority are doping.

You didn't say it Azam did, which was in the post I quoted, so its relevant.

He said they couldn't gain any muscle mass and it limited their potential. He's wrong, whether body builders used any performance enhancing effects or not they are vegans who gained muscle mass.

Do you think their size is more influenced by genetics, steriods or pea protein?

my post literally said you can get suffiecient protein on a vegan diet though for bulding muscle obviously. so it isnt relevant to my point.

If you see a lovely field with a family having a picnic, and a nice pond in it, you fill in the pond with concrete, you plow the family into the soil, you blow up the tree, and use the leaves to make a dress for your wife who is also your brother.

In the median they're absolutely not but there are always outliers. Then again if someone becomes vegan mid-career it's definitely a different thing because then their base level fitness have been formed before that.

Chris Smalling went plant based a couple of years ago and said it really helped with recovery between games and tendinitis. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11632358/man-utd-defender-chris-smalling-on-why-he-turned-vegan

Djokovic has for years has been tinkering with his diet to improve performance and has now gone fully plant based. Venus Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Lawrence Okolie, etc. More and more athletes are trying it.
