Loan Watch 2019/20
« on: October 29, 2015, 11:48:24 am »
Please remove if already posted elsewhere but I could not find anything on Allan. Interview portrays him and the club very well, glad the older Brasilian lads are taking good care of him  :)

Source: http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/196876-when-jrgen-met-allan-lfc-s-teen-brazilian-returns-to-melwood

Allan Rodrigues de Souza was back at the club's training complex for the first time since completing a loan spell in Finland, and his new manager was eager to make him feel welcome.

As Klopp took the opportunity to dedicate his complete attention to the midfielder, the Brazilian proudly handed over a couple of souvenirs from his time with Seinajoen Jalkapallokerho – a No.28 jersey he wore while competing in the Finnish top flight and a league title winners’ medal – for the boss to inspect.

Liverpool moved to secure the services of Allan from Internacional in September before immediately sending him out on loan to SJK to gain some vital experience of European football.

It proved to be a profitable stint, including two goals and five assists in eight appearances from the 18-year-old to help his temporary club to their first ever Veikkausliiga title, pipping the usually-dominant HJK Helsinki to the crown.

“It was a very important experience for me - it was good to get some game time as I hadn’t been playing in a while,” Allan explained as he sat down with Liverpoolfc.com for the first time. “Moreover, I had never played a game at professional level before, so it was very valuable time I’ve spent there.

“It’s only been seven years since SJK were founded, and they were a second-division club until recently.

“They had finished third in the league two years ago and were runners-up last season, and now this year we’ve won the league. It’s been very rewarding and I’m very happy we did it.”

Both Liverpool and the player himself believe that spell with SJK could go a long way to assisting Allan in his attempts to fulfil his visibly vast potential.

Although it may seem a daunting prospect for any 18-year-old to move continents and then swap countries in such a short space of time, the Reds’ support network made every effort to ensure the transition was as comfortable as possible – including daily communication.

“European football is not like Brazilian football – the game pace and dynamic on the ball are very different,” Allan said. “I tried to settle in as quickly as possible. I had little time to adapt and so I did my best to get familiar with it as fast as I could.

“Liverpool were in contact with me on a daily basis. They wanted to know how I was and gave me full support during my time there, asking about me and staying in touch every day. They were very caring indeed.”

It wasn’t just Liverpool officials seeking to check on Allan’s wellbeing during his time in Finland – there were three key members of the first-team squad sending texts and emails, and making phone calls to the youngster.

Lucas Leiva, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino have all been eager to take their compatriot under their collective wing since he became a Red.

“I had to fly to Liverpool on the same day people told me about the club’s interest in signing me,” Allan recalls.

“I was a little bit scared as it was out of the blue – I wasn’t expecting it – but I received a warm welcome from the Brazilians when I first got here. They took me to their houses, asked me if I needed anything and gave me all the support they could.

“They said I could rely on them for anything I needed. They were also very helpful in training and assisted me with the language – in fact, they couldn’t have done more than they did.

“They are wonderful people and I know I can count on them. I’ve been in touch with them regularly – and Lucas recently said in an interview that I’m a great prospect, which made me feel happy.

“I’ve spoken to them recently and they congratulated me for my time in Finland. It feels so nice to get this input from Lucas, Coutinho and Firmino, who are football heroes in Brazil and across the world. It’s very rewarding for me indeed.”

With his loan spell at SJK now complete, Allan will be allowed a few days to return to Brazil and catch his breath after an incredible few weeks.

After that, he’ll head back to Melwood to re-start training, but concedes another temporary switch could be on the cards once again come the New Year.

“Now that I’m back, I’ll do some tests and whatever else I’ve got to do here, and then I’m off to Brazil to see my family,” he said.

“I’ll be focusing on my training sessions at Liverpool for the next month or two when I return and we’ll see what happens after that, but I trust Liverpool and rely on their decision – I’ll do whatever they feel is appropriate for me.

“For now, my main objective is to gain more experience – it’s not yet the time to think about winning big things.

“I will take it step by step, with both feet on the ground, humility and hard work. But obviously in the long-term, my objectives will be more than simply train and play here – ultimately, one day in the future, I want to win and bring joy to the Liverpool supporters and much more.

“I’m a fighter and I’ll stick together with the team and go the extra mile. You can count on me as I’ll give my best to help Liverpool.”

Good read.

This from Melissa Reddy is also pretty great...

Quote
In nine months, Allan Rodrigues de Souza captained Internacional to a youth tournament triumph, before signing for Liverpool and making history with SJK Seinajoki in Finland

For the player, it all seemed to happen within the space of a week in April.

One day, Allan Rodrigues de Souza was undergoing his usual pre-season sessions with Internacional and the next he was learning of Liverpool’s interest in him before flying out to Merseyside. In reality, the process of securing the gifted midfielder had begun in January for the Reds, who had sent their Under-18 team to the Frenz International Cup. They exited the tournament without honours but were alerted to Allan, who captained Internacional to victory in a competition also featuring Tottenham and Valencia.

Liverpool’s South American scouts admired the 18-year-old’s composure, as well as his ability to act as both a destroyer and a playmaker.  They continued to monitor his progress in Brazil, aware that they would have to move quickly to secure his signature. With other European sides circling, Liverpool leaned on their good relationship with Internacional and invited Allan to England, where he played two trial games for the Under-21s in April.

“It all happened so quickly,” he told Goal. “I went back to pre-season like normal with Internacional and only heard about Liverpool’s interest a week before coming to England.

“Internacional knew about it for a long time, but said they didn’t want to distract me. I was curious and excited by the chance to work with a great club, to see what I could pick up and learn during this week.”

Again, Liverpool were impressed enough to immediately engage with the Brazilian side over a permanent move. They agreed terms with Internacional, with Allan back at Anfield in July. He was integrated into the first team during pre-season and even found himself on the bench against HJK Helskini in August. His signing was confirmed on deadline day, as was an immediate loan move to SJK Seinajoki.

Allan’s impact in Finland was instantaneous: he took just 15 minutes to stun onlookers with a left-footed beauty on his debut in a fixture he was never meant to feature in. “I arrived on Sunday, and SJK were going to play that following Thursday,” he explained.

“I had a conversation with the manager, and he told me: ‘Okay, you won’t play the first game because I want you to get used to everything.’ He said I would travel with the team, so I can bond with my team-mates more, take in the atmosphere…

“He made it clear I wouldn’t play, but he still put me on the bench. In the second half, we were 1-0 down, and out of nothing the manager said: ‘You’re coming on.’ I went on and had a few chances, then I scored. It was my first game as a professional, and I managed to get my first goal in a game that I thought I would just be watching! I was chosen as the best player as well so I was very excited, but it was all very unexpected.”

In eight appearances, the teenager - who is represented by Kia Joorabchian - recorded five assists, three man-of-the-match awards and two goals - one direct from a corner. Allan operated as both a holding midfielder and a No.8 for SJK, his attributes suiting both a long and short passing game.

“He has huge, unbelievable potential,” explained Simo Valakari, the club’s manager who spent four years at Derby County. “He has big technical ability, a wonderful left foot and the football intelligence to use it. Allan is small, but very strong - he uses his body well and positions himself cleverly. He can pick any pass in a game, and understands space very well.”

It is easy to eulogise about the skill of young players, but the raw talent is often not matched by the strong mentality that is required to succeed. It is clear, however, that Allan has the capacity to cope with the psychological demands of the game. Having moved to a unfamiliar country and a club where not one of the players or staff spoke any Portuguese or Spanish, he still managed to influence matches.

“I knew that I’d be going to a completely new country, which would be so different to me - the language, the weather, the style of football, the food - but I wasn’t fazed by any of that, because football is my life and I would go through anything to be able to play,” he said.

“I wasn’t frightened or worried, I was excited for the challenge. I was curious about how the experience would be, how I could learn and grow. For me, football can help break any barrier - language, different cultures and all that.”

Liverpool’s Brazilian trio, Lucas Leiva, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, regularly kept in touch with the midfielder, sharing their own stories of moving to Europe as youngsters. “They always texted to see how I was doing, to congratulate me, to offer advice. They have been very good to me.”

Valakari believe Allan’s steely mentality will ensure he advances well. “As a coach, you come across great talent all the time. But the thing you look for, the characteristics that make you very happy, is a great attitude and a strong mind.

"If a player has skill and this, then it is perfect. He came to a totally new environment and with his passion and drive, fitted in so easy. The fact a player with a language barrier can understand exactly how things should be done in training and matches means he is very, very good. He immediately improved the team and helped us win the championship. He has all the qualities to succeed at the top level.”

SJK’s manager believes the next step is for Allan to “get many more games as a professional. He has a very good youth pedigree, but must build his experience”.

Another loan spell is pencilled in for him. Spanish and Dutch clubs were initially interested in taking the Sao Paulo-born talent temporarily but, after his showing in Finland, Liverpool have also been fielding enquiries from the top-tiers in Belgium, Portugal and Turkey.

“My next step is to soak up more experience in Europe, to have different lessons and styles,” said Allan. “Of course, I would also love to get in the Brazil Under-20 team. I have been working very hard for that, and it would be the natural step for my progress. If it happened it would be happy days for me, for my family, my friends, and I would give everything to the shirt.”

Allan returns to Brazil on Thursday for 10 days. He will get to show off his league medal to the family and friends that are so close to him.

“We have kept in touch every day since I left. I am used to being away from my family because when I went to south Brazil to play for Internacional, they stayed in Sao Paulo. Of course, it is a much shorter distance, but I only used to visit maybe three to four times a year,” Allan added.

“My parents have always been very supportive. My dad always pushed me to be my very best - from the time I started playing at five. He wanted me to take football more seriously and not just play around with my friends. He would always correct me if I did something cheeky on the pitch that didn’t come off - he was a great critic.

"My mum made sure I was still performing at school, and she was the one who encouraged me to test myself in Europe. My dad was nervous about letting his young son go, he was worried.”

Now, he can be proud. Allan’s first professional steps already have a silver lining, and Liverpool are convinced his upward trajectory will continue.

That's a great reflection on the lad, a real honest, down to earth kind of player who could be a really good player.  Send him out in January to another club,  maybe a lower level German team in the Bundesliga, say Mainz, and see how he develops.

I assume he can only go out on loan in January?

I guess the plan is ten days off, bakc training with the lads, maybe make the bench for some Cup games then out on loan for the rest of the season.

I would agree loan in January sounds great, until then deffo let him be involved around the squad and get involved with the lads and language.

Where do people think a loan would be beneficial, saw above Mainz which is a great shout, any other leagues bar Bundesliga?

Seems like a genuine good kid.

Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

That's interesting to read.

You sometimes hear about players accepting some truly bizarre loans, and I wonder how often it wasn't really the player driving that outcome.

The Finnish league is pretty poor. To give an idea of the level two of his team mates were British; one joined from Bristol Rovers and the other from Airbus UK. A talented lad but the next step is a loan at a mid tier European league rather than some of the more fanciful Bundesliga/Prem suggestions in here.

A talented CM isn't he? There may be a first team role for him straightaway.

He'll need to go out on loan again as I'm pretty sure he won't qualify for a work permit yet.

Seems to be a very humble and grounded guy. Also positive to see that the club seem to believe in him. Hopefully he gets a good loan, not necessarily tona top league, but somewhere competitive where he can get lots of game time.

Btw, can he play reserve matches before leaving on loan again, or does that require a work permit too?

He'd need a work permit for u21 football as well. he could play in the behind closed door games, or some of the youth tournaments we enter though.
