Depending on finances I may go down and support Sami when we aren't playing. At the moment I live about a ten minute drive from the Amex.
Balotelli, Falcao, Cavani...

I'll be shocked if it's anyone other Etoo. Etoo or no-one. Simples.

In fact, I'll do you all a favor and ban myself from the January transfer window forum if we get anyone other than Etoo.

It's a bit strange that Sammy Lee would turn down an Assistant Manager role at Brighton in favour of only a Coaching role at Southampton (the BBC article does not specify what kind of coaching role he will be doing for The Saints).

It would have been better for his Career for him to go to Brighton and there's is also the case of him having already agreed terms.

It looks like the chance to be involved in the Premier League again, along with a probable better salary ultimately turned his head.

Will watch how Brighton performes next season. A real challenge for Sami. I suspect Brighton want to get promoted. So he'll have to get good results from the start.

Maybe he just prefers to be a coach?

Maybe he does.

Although I doubt it. He was Assistant Manager to Sam Allardyce at Bolton, was briefly Manager there, and then was Assistant Manager to Rafa Benitez at Liverpool. Then he recently agreed to become Assistant to Sami Hyypia at Brighton. That hardly looks like a man who wants to be just a coach.

Yes - an assistant manager is usually involved in coaching.

No - an assistant manager usually has more responsibilities than 'just' a  coach. He is the manager's right hand man.

That's why I said "often". It depends more on what the manager/head coach does than any definite description of the position. For example, Joe Jordan is far more of a coach under Redknapp than Peter Taylor was under Clough. "Assistant manager" is just a title. Often they are the technical foil for the "ideas" people in charge. Sometimes they are just a sounding board. Other times they are the talent spotter. The only real difference between "Assistant manager" and "First team coach" is pay grade, most of the time.

What a scumbag thing to do.  My instinct was that he was turned by the money. Which is a shame because Sami has a chance to achieve some great things at Brighton, and well Southampton IMO are going to struggle big time next season.

I'm sure Sami's disappointed, but Sammy Lee is at a stage in his career where he needs to be looking at his future. Realistically, how many more jobs has he got left in him? He's unlikely to make the step into management at this stage, so he has every right to take the best job on offer. As for moving clubs, that happens all the time in football.

There's very little loyalty in football. It's a shame that 90% of supporters of all clubs never realise that, because it would remove a lot of heartbreak.

Whatever Lee's reasons for changing his mind, the chances are that in another circumstance, Hyppia would have done the same kind of thing.

Or maybe there's a physics reason and there can't be two "Sammy's" on the same bench at the same time? :D

Maybe sometimes.

But not "most of the time".

Most of the times, the Assistant Manager is the Right-Hand man of the Manager, and thus has more responsibilities than a Coach. So the biggest difference between an Assistant Manager & a Coach is the amount of responsibilities.

The higher salary of an Assistant Manager compared to a Coach is to reward those additional responsibilities.
