33/1 to be PFA player of the season - consider it an investment!
All the media will cum over Sterling and De Bruyne you watch!

Has the be the best playmaking false 9 in the world today.

Seen the thing on youtube a few nights ago about football tactics. The fella was going on about back in the 50s teams played with 5 upfront but the great Hungary side had the middle striker drop deep and the first false number 9 was born. He went onto speak about Bobby in this clip but I cant remember exactly what he said.

He just plays like he’s still a school kid.

He’s never nervous, he doesn’t take it too seriously.

Just look at the head of the defender behind him, the guy doesn't know where to look... And the extra step in front of Bobby... And the one coming to help was just passed by the ball like a road sign. And Jonjo has the "oh, fuck it" reaction. All in the space of a second or two

One defender even injured in the aftermath trying to figure out what just happened as Salah glided past him.

When is it announced though ? Not announced but you know what I mean. When are the votes in as there used to be two player of the seasons but not sure if there still is. One was voted on much earlier than May.

Found this snippet about Firmino in an article about New York City FC player Heber:
Quote
...He played in an exceptional youth team alongside Roberto Firmino, who “played as an attacking midfielder – a No10.” Like Héber, Firmino was from a distant part of the country, Maceió, on the northeastern coast. But he was quick to make an impression. “I remember his first training session. He scored with two bicycle kicks. We were asking ourselves: ‘Who’s this lad?’ He was quick, technical and had a real will to win. His quality was absurd, immense. He was indescribable.”

Despite his personality on the pitch, Firmino was extremely shy off it. “Our coach was calling him Alberto for a week,” Héber laughs. “‘Alberto, Alberto.’ And he wouldn’t tell the coach his name was Roberto. It was only after we went up to the coach and said, ‘Hemerson Maria, his name’s not Alberto, it’s Roberto!’, that he started calling him by the right name.”

The pair graduated to the Figueirense first team together in 2010 and led them to promotion. Firmino left for Hoffenheim in 2011...

a bit of credit to gini for taking away the defender for mo to run through.

our players does that a lot of the decoy runs. Think defenders or DM's surely hate it. Having our front 3 is nightmare enough. Having runners from deep like gini, hendo, ox and keita pulling defenders everywhere is surely as close to hell as they can get.

Bobby might be my favourite Liverpool player ever, which really is saying something.

Sometimes I think of him as similar to Michael Laudrup in Cruyff’s dream team. Stoichkov (Salah), Romario (Mane) and even Koeman (Virg) used to walk away with the headlines, but Laudrup was the real artist – the best footballer of them all. The same is true of Bobby. The man who makes us tick going forward and an absolute joy to watch.

I wonder has led to such an improvement this season. Perhaps its the confidence gained from the Copa America win or perhaps his competitive instincts is kicking in after last season where he was clearly the weakest of the 3. What ever it is, he is approaching world class levels at the moment and is reminiscent of Suarez (albeit not as good) in his creativity and link up play

Oh yeah, I don't think he will win it. But he sure as hell won't be a 33/1 shot for long.

If he maintains his play and is in double figures goal wise when voting comes around he has a very good shot I reckon.

Mane looks most likely for me on our side. His 'story' is shaping up nicely (50 home games unbeaten, has never tasted defeat at home, scoring well etc)

It's still too early but I reckon it's gonna largely be Mane v Sterling.

I can see him moving full time into midfield when he's in his early thirties.

What a player.

Not sure why he'd need to, as far as I'm aware the likes of Bergkamp and Zola never did. He's a number 10, he'll be fine in that role until he retires.

Astonishing footballer. He’s the biggest reason we obliterate opponents in situations like Burnley and Newcastle. 2 deep low blocks, but instead of losing/drawing those games, we smash through those buses. Arsenal did the same thing actually. That’s the last 3 PL games, where we’ve faced those deep low blocks.

It’s a tactic we’ll see more of this season I think, as last season 2 of our biggest attacking weapons were Robertson and Trent. The deep blocks in the box against our attackers is designed to keep the space in the deadliest areas controlled, conceding the wide areas to our better wingers in Trent and Robertson.

But then we can play through the middle. Salah and Mane play narrower, and because of the above, I think will do more. It means it’s imperative we have someone in that number 9.5 position to be able to link up with close, quick, one touch passes. And how many times has it happened so far this season? He opens the gates for Mane and Salah to do their thing, it’s one of the best things to watch in world football at the moment - how he does it.

Yesterday’s 2 touch flick one-two with Salah took 7 Newcastle players out in close vicinity to the ball. 7. That’s before Salah’s got to beat the keeper by the way.

Salah and Mane’s quality in those situations is of course key - they’re all an equal part of a deadly trident. Mane’s own ability in those tight situations is exemplarary, along with Salah’s, already this season. Salah’s goals playing narrow through the low block from the right side have been a good example this season. He’s scored a few now (although yesterday’s was of course from the left side - still deadly!) Mane’s yesterday was almost impossible - how he got the ball under control and get that shot power and accuracy, in literally a split second, given the tight space in and in front of the box.

It’ll be a joy to watch them this season. They’re world class talents, have the attitudes to make it at the very top, something they’ve shown this last couple of seasons. But this season, they’re also Champions. They’ve won the biggest prize, and now they’ve got the confidence to *own* that level. It’s brilliant, because that is directly going to be translated onto the field. They’ll be more audacious. Which is a great thought, as it’ll be brilliant to watch them do it. All 3 of these are absolutely vital to this title challenge. Hope they stay fit and firing all season.
