I'd play Alun Evans for this one.

And leave Toshack on the bench?

They aren't mugs. They have plenty of quality to cause us problems. I am confident in our lads, but we need Lovren to recover because a makeshift CB pairing is not something you want against Lewandowski.

With Van Dijk, we would have battered them 3 or 4 nil. Without him, 3-1 is more likely.

That'll be enough for the return leg.

And Howard Gayle for a bit of the second leg.

Aren’t you a bit over confident,

Three unbeaten in the champions league this season and Lewandowski has 25 goals already this season with plenty of talent and experience in the squad

I don't think we'll kick the shit out of them but they're definitely going to find that we'll give them the hardest game they've had this season. Total domination is what I want to see but I think it'll be close at first then we'll start to pull away. First leg at Anfield is the perfect opportunity to truly rattle them and leave them quaking in their boots when we visit their place.

Absolutely, they have some good players. They dont often face teams like us though.

Hopefully the likes of Boateng play.

Can't wait for this.

Genuinely think we can win this competition.

Assume City are favourites but only side I really fear is Barca.

I wouldn't assume that. I genuinely think Barcelona and Juventus have better teams than City, and I'd even throw Real in the favorites mix before City simply because of the amount of times they've won it.

I guess it doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things. The only people who do matter regards that won't be taking it for granted as they'll know Bayern for all their first half of the season struggles are very much a team with great quality. And great experience of course.

Fans can be as arrogant and confident as they like, so long as those at the match, at Anfield especially, aren't taking it for granted! Which they won't  8)

I just think it's great that 2 genuine European giants, 2 classic football clubs, are meeting.

I've missed the recent BM games, have they got better at putting teams away? I know before when I was watching them they were struggling to finish of matches. Neuer has declared himself fit I see as well.

Is Jordon Ibe cup tied for this?

He hasn't played for another team in the Champions League this season so he should be eligible, no?

Would enable us to rest Salah.

Shows the depth of our squad right now.

I missed the one where they got beaten 3-1 away to Leverkusen, having led 1-0 at half time, that was quite the result!

Saw their cup game vs Hertha BSC and most of their league game vs Schalke. In the cup, scorline flattered Hertha a bit, Bayern where deserved winners. They giften a goal to get Hertha back into it.

Vs Schalke they where pretty comfortable and they did put them away.  One thing is noticable is that they are still prone to teams who counter. That's how Schalke got their goal. And they do have an error in them. Hummels being the biggest culprit last week.

They have been scoring a lot in recent weeks, and playing pretty well, looking far more Bayern like, that game vs Leverkusen was their first loss since mid November, so they had gone 10 unbeaten.

Neuer would declare himself fit if he had one leg for this one. The arrogant tit that he is  ;D  Fact is, they'd still be in very good shape in goal if they had to go with Sven Ulreich.

Would agree with that. If the results and draw are kind enough, a semi final line up of ourselves, City, Juventus and Barcelona would be mouthwatering.

Especially if we get the chance to put Real Madrid away on the way there too!

It's going to be a good match up. Bayern is not having the greatest of season - new manager, team getting older yet still very formidable and experienced. Lewandowski will always be a danger. Coman  and Goretzka seem to be in good form. And there are James, Thiago and Kimmich to worry about. If Neuer is out - that'll be a significant loss to them

It's going to be tough but we certainly have the qualities to beat them. As someone mentioned above - we should be happy that we're back among the elites and being in the final 16 must be our minimum target these days

And Howard Gayle for a bit of the second leg.

What an incredible performance that was. With today's reffing standards Bayern would've been left with about 5 players on the pitch. They were just taking wild swings at him by the end.

Amazing to think that we have never played Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

We've played and beaten every other 'big' club, but never them.

Just happy we've got a chance to do that now :D

Think we'll win the 1st leg.
2nd leg will be tighter.
But we'll edge it.

Bayern Munich are a team with its flaws this season. Kovac still hasn't found the perfect team or formula yet, but the performances have clearly picked up. They have been the second-best side in the Bundesliga so far this season, mainly because their defense is not as good as it used to be - Hummels, Boateng and Neuer feel their age creeping up on them and Niklas Süle is not experienced enough to play CB at the highest level. Up front they are always dangerous with Lewandowski, Ribery and Robben are always a danger when they show up and they do have substitutes trying to oust them like Coman and Gnabry. They can certainly score against us with Van Dijk missing the first leg, but they will also concede. They haven't kept a clean sheet in their last five, conceding 8 goals in those games.

I also think their performances in the CL this season shouldn't be too hyped up, as they only faced Ajax, AEK Athens and Benfica. All three are normally stats padders for the true elite.
Last resort if you need tickets in Switzerland.
