Genuinely gutted about this news, he was one of my favourite players growing up as a Liverpool fan, I could never understand why he never got the recognition at international level that he deserved.

His battle with Parkinson's has been inspirational, it's a disease close to my heart as my father was stricken with it in later life and he died from complications from the disease.  Ray got diagnosed very early in his life too, think he was in the early stages of it when he was still playing.

RIP Ray and thanks for the memories  :'(
However if something serious happens to them I will eat my own cock.

Shankly signed him as a forward & Paisley turned him into one of the best left-sided midfielders in the Europe. An absolute giant in the game. So sad he had to spend a lot of his life with Parkinsons.

RIP Ray Kennedy. A true, true legend.

Before my time, but everyone described him as a Rolls Royce of a footballer.  Wasn't he captain that night in Munich?

I'd have loved to know who's idea was it to covert him from a forward to a left sided midfielder - famously he was signed the day Bill resigned, but it was a tremendous coaching move by Bob to implement it, helped by Ray's footballing brain.

Awful disease - horrible to think that he spent more than half his life suffering from it. I hope he's at peace now.

There was a documentary a few years ago where a Parkinson's specialist said that they were able to use film footage of Ray in his Arsenal days and compare them to his latter days at Anfield to give an indication of how, albeit slowly, the disease had progressed.

Ah no. One of my favourite players of all time. If my memory is correct, Ray played as a number 10 for Arsenal and was a superb player. He then came to us and surprisingly played in midfield but what a transformation that was. He glided around the pitch spraying the ball about and seeing passes others couldn’t.

I have little doubt that he would start in our current team…….he was that good.

He was a class act and so sad that he has gone.

yes, it was Bob that switched him to midfield to wonderful effect and i agree that he would walk into our squad and could be a starter depending on what you wanted for that game

i always thought of him as a classy individual player in that you didn't look at him and say 'he's like...', unique may be too strong but i can't really think of a direct comparison, he was Ray Kennedy and that said it all

you had a fantastic career lad and are loved by two huge clubs - not many will lay down with that legacy, that cheeky smile will live long

I've just come back from a funeral to this news. So, so sad.

Case --- McDermott --- Souness --- Kennedy  = the greatest midfield I have ever seen anwyhere.

Ray is in my all-time Liverpool XI. Genuine legend.

So sad

Slightly before my time but I’ve seen all the videos and obviously the magical St Etienne goal. One of the all time greats for us. RIP Ray.

Was lucky to be present when this man graced the turf in a red shirt. Sublime left peg and part of a brilliant team or two. Will never forget the impact when Sir Bob moved him to left mid.
RIP, Ray.
