Without Remorse - relatively crap but entertaining enough
The Woman in The Window - laughably bad
I quite enjoyed Without Remorse. Felt like a very 90s/00s action film.

The Woman in the Window started off ok but then went to shit after an hour.

Anyone else off to the cinema this week then?
Starting with a couple of films I'd not yet seen via streaming platforms - Godzilla vs King Kong. Seems the best way to return to the pictures by seeing two monsters punching each other for unspecified reasons.
Then one of the Oscar nominees I'd missed Judas and The Black Messiah.

Can't wait not been since I went to see Akira in October, the last day cineworld was open.

'Da 5 Bloods' was a big letdown. Not sure where to start but most of the user reviews on IMDB are fairly in line with how I felt about it: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9777644/reviews?ref_=tt_ov_rt

Wasn't the Cineworld in Speke was it ? - that's the last time I went and there were about 10 of us in there !

Fancy going this week myself , but still a bit unsure .

If I do go , fancy seeing The Black Messiah.

Yeah it was Speke in the Super Screen. Probably the busiest screening I'd been in since Tenet came out.

I'm just going to go to midweek afternoon screenings to start with, hopefully quiet and the weather will be OK so I can walk to and from the place.

I remember enjoying it at the time, but I might've just been starving for movies during lockdown. That said, I still think about Delroy Lindo's performance a lot. Worth it for just that alone.

Saw Judas and The Black Messiah yesterday and thought it was excellent. Daniel Kaluuya as Fred Hampton was excellent. Lakeith Stanfield was just as good as William O'Neal and really is key to the movie as a whole.

Watched Tenet for the first time last weekend at home. Where to even start ?. Watched it a second time and watched a dozen youtube explainers on it.

Beautiful movie. terrible sound when I watched on TV, much better sound when watched with ipad and headphones. seriously impenetrable plot, but beautifully set scenes.

Watched about 40mins earlier before I had to head out (we'll both watch it all later) and enjoyed all 40 including the opening credits.

Snyder is obviously a fanboy of American Werewolf In London.

Watched Army Of The Dead last night.

Both absolutely loved it, humour, violence, great cover songs, action sequences, it has it all.

The German actor who was quite funny, was he separated at birth with the actress in GoT who played Brienne Of Tarth. :o

Looks forward to the eventual 4 hour Snyder cut and more of Bautista's cellulite head/hair job.

Could there be a battle of the musicals at the next awards what with West Side Story and the trailer for Dear Evan Hansen must admit I knew nothing about this before watching the trailer and if a trailer can bring a tear to your eye it must be good.

Looking forward to it.

Thought it was shockingly bad and I usually set a really low bar for such films. It’s wasn't even silly/daft enough to be a guilty pleasure.

Whatever Snyder is, he’s not a DoP - the shallow depth of field focus thing really got on my tits.

Army of the Dead was alright but too long.

Spoiler
The whole daughter subplot could have been removed and it would have been a better film imo

It's funny that 1987 doesn't get talked about when the 'greatest year for film' conversation comes up. It was absolutely stacked and I would say I have probably seen more films from that year and rewatched them than any other year.

Just watched a film from 1987 weirdly enough.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles.

Nothing tops it, an amazing film with wonderful performances from John Candy and Steve Martin. So hilarious and so sad too.

Army of the dead

Spoiler
more ludicrous than the daughter story was how they shoehorned in that awkward bit where the girl professes her love to Scott before dying, just so he could get all emotional. Whole thing was bereft of any humanity beyond the German guy.

And when that cover of “zombie” started to play i actually shouted “oh, fuck off” at the tv

Just finished Army of the Dead as well.

Snyder is so far up his own arse, I don't think he's seen daylight in months. From the terrible opening sequence to spending about 30-40 minutes of character development for characters nobody ends up giving a shit about and shoehorned mini-stories as said above.
Also, not every shot needs to be as "epic as possible".
