Gotta play em at some time, might as well be early.

If we are somewhere up there..we have a decent enough run in to compete.

The worry is that Klopp said at the start of the season the players back later in pre season would have to have their games managed due to the intensity of pre season.

Our start last season was pretty difficult too, wasn't it.

There was talk of Karius.  A risk Firmino could be selected as an overage player. Think that's about it.

Wow, that's a terribly tough opening list of fixtures, those first five especially. Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs all away from home, and the Champions at Anfield. All before the CL kicks off in earnest too so little advantage for us having full weeks to prepare. Play them all over the season eh but that does look pretty brutal.

Brilliant this. Its hard to imagine a better start to the season than beating last years top 3 in the first four games, and then smacking Chelsea at the bridge for a perfect five.

Up the Reds.

Well we never do it the easy way. If we can get through those first 5 games with 10 points, I think we'll be in for a good season.
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

Not at all fazed by that to be honest. You have to play them all at some stage, and I'd rather play them away before they have a chance to build up some momentum.

Coutinho home early, hopefully some of the others at the Euros will follow suit.

Very excited already! Up the Reds!

Could go one way or the other really. Imagine the impact a good start in those opening games could have for the rest of the season. Not to mention getting some of the hardest fixtures out of the way first.

Trying my hardest to be positive about this!

Good point on player freshness.  Seems like we have very few starters at the Euros based on the first round of fixtures. Hopefully the Arsenal and Spurs lot will be a lot more jaded.

With those early games being against rivals I hope we're not missing too many people due to the Olympics come the start of the season. Wouldn't surprise me if Firmino and Karius were just two of them unless Brazil use others for their over-23 quota.

just checked the first 3 away games - Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea :lmao they're having a fuckin laugh aren't they!

Liverpool have written to Burnley to ask that the 'home' game at Anfield is switched so we won't be playing our first home game until September at the earliest.

There is never an exact date, but its usually between 1-3 weeks after todays official release. Usually that is.

Which adds a bit more pressure to the start

We all know we have to play one another twice but that can be a very generalising statement - what really matters is the detail within that and when those games are scheduled against one another. This start is evidence of that. It is what it is, we get that, but by Christ that is some tough start.

Last year was similar in terms of away games I think. Stoke first off the back of a hammering,  then Arsenal,  United, Everton, Spurs and Chelsea all by October away from home.

We had a similarly tough run in 06/07 coming off the back of a strong season and we never really got momentum going.

On the flip side I guess if you have some tough aways you should have some winnable aways although that is diluted this time by the Burnley game being flipped. However, how often in recent years have we done OK in big games and messed up the winnable looking ones. Even looking at that very tough opening five, leaving out Burnley we won two and drew two of those fixtures last season so we certainly shouldn't be fearing them.

Leicester only took 12 points from their first 21 available last season.

I can see us getting 12 from our first 7 games if you want to look at it like that.

Well you certainly seem like an upbeat person :)

It's our tough shit - we'll have new players to integrate, players at the olympics, players hung over from international duty
Dunno - it's obviously not a huge deal but it is a shit start and we could have done with an easy one this year

Tough start. Will be tough to get momentum, if we lose more than a couple early on. We need to have our defence sorted out from the start.
