injury - he came off before the half.

On my channel it was a tactical switch. Klopp did not even acknowledge him as he came off. There would have been displeasure there with his play, for sure. Heard many shouts throughout the game for the midfielders to ‘go help them’, but Keita often was stuck in the middle, nowhere to be found.

It was his job to cover Trent, but it never did happen for him. He was nowhere to be found on any of the first two goals. It’s like he just didn’t look interested in the dirty work. Meanwhile, you see all the Madrid players scrambling to the back like a school play, 2 banks of 4 defending. While we had players floating around out there waiting for service when they really should be back trying to take the ball away from the attackers.

Either our tactics were wrong, or Keita needed to do his job properly.

Sometimes it just doesn't work out for great talents, and it's always sad to see. Time to move on.

He's had enough opportunities.

Thanks - I mentioned earlier I thought they said injury - but maybe they made the assumption as well.

The modern day Harry Kewell.  But with less productivity to show for it.
The lad was more like Harry Worth tonight, unfortunately.

definition of a nothing player for me. goes hiding in matches, cant handle the pressure of playing for this club let along a big game like tonight, constantly out with niggles and knocks. its not happening unfortunately. need to cut our losses in summer. the decision to play him tonight ahead of a champions league winning midfield beggars belief for me.

I’m sure someone will come in here with a nice colorful chart or graph showing his expected progressive passes per 90 or some weird shit like that and say he was our best midfielder tonight.   ;D

Exactly what I was thinking, I said so on the last page. Some meaningless stat will be posted and we'll be told how we don't understand football because we can't see what he brings to the team.

If he wasn't injured then he is done for us.

Had so many chances and has rarely been anything but a bystander.

Had unbelievably high hopes when he arrived, but he has been a massive flop in every sense

If we can get £ 25M. for him, then i hope we will sell him. He has non game intelligence, and we saw that tonight. Kroos and Modric was far to intelligent. Kroos dropped deep, and made these razor sharp passes to Junior - just like Pirlo did in 2005, when he set up Crespo against Carra. Carra came in second every single time :(
Every power draws its ultimate consequences at every moment. Supposing that this also is only interpretation-and you will be eager enough to make this objection?-well, so much the better. (Nietzsche; Beyond Good & Evil, p. 30-31).

He's constantly injured and when he's not and given his chance, more often than not he fails to take it. You'll say that missing as many games as he usually does means he's not up to speed, but we're just constantly going round and round in circles with him. Can't stay fit and when he is fit he's far too off the pace to be playing. It's been nearly 3 years and I don't think we'll ever see the best of him.

Could have taken either him or Wijnaldum off at the point he went off. Neither had had any impact on the game up to that point and were equally as bad.

Simply though it was the wrong choice of midfield from the off.

Hard to see a happy ending for him after that. Big opportunity and big vote of confidence getting the start, and then a poor performance.

Still think it’s very harsh to pick him out though. He wasn’t subbed because he was our worst CM in that first half, because he wasn’t.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

I was surprised to see him on the team sheet as I thought Fab, Thiago and Gini were nailed on to start.
Gini actually looked far better second half, but none of our midfield covered themselves in glory.

Disappointing really. The fact Klopp didn't even acknowledge him when he was subbed off says it all.

Still hope he gets some game time till the end of the season to either be a squad option next year or move on with a respectable transfer fee.
