Another Sturridge  esque player it seems, two of the most naturally gifted players we’ve had at this club but lack of durability will probably like Sturridge lead to him having an ‘underrated career’. I mean his 29 supposed to be in the peak of his powers yet can’t start for Spain.

He’s had 1 injury in a year which looks like it will last for 2 months following a lengthy injury from a shithouse Richarlison tackle which could quite easily have broken his leg. It’s hardly the same as Sturridge who, other than 13/14 was consistently injured with various things.

I get the frustrations, it’s really annoying especially as we keep getting told that he’ll be back within a certain timeframe and it always seems to be longer, but it’s nothing like Sturridge.

Great to see him back. He will inevitably miss time to injury, but his impact when he's fit should not go unnoticed.

Exactly the player we were crying out for after going 2-0 up in the Brighton game.

A Tory, a worker and an immigrant are sat round a table. There's a plate of 10 biscuits in the middle. The Tory takes 9 then turns to the worker and says "that immigrant is trying to steal your biscuit"

Good again last night bar the issue with getting caught in possession. I don't think it's a massive issue and I'm not seeking to overplay it but it has happened a few times in his time here. I suspect the reason it happens is because either:

(a) He's a bit older now. His reaction time, strength, acceleration etc. probably isn't quite what it was and so he can't shield/spin away in the way his brain telling him to, and/or
(b) He's played for years in Germany where Bayern stroll to victory against most of their opponents who don't dare try to press them high up the pitch else they'll get smashed 5-0. He probably had the freedom of the park in most games and coming into a side/league where he's under more pressure when he's on the ball is a bit of a change to him.

Point (b) probably goes towards explaining why he picked up so many yellows from daft lunges in his first season here - the average winger is probably slightly quicker/faster/trickier than the average winger in the Bundesliga.

Him playing risky and getting caught in possession is an issue playing as a 6 when he replaced Fabinho. But if there is a proper 6 behind him like Fabinho, these high risk moves become worth it, he gets past the press breaks the defensive shape and allows for us to play properly. But he can't really stop playing that way as a 6, which makes him a slight risk for one or two chances a game.

It's interesting watching Thiago, he has flaws in that he can get caught dallying on the ball and gives away unnecessary fouls, his ears must be ringing from Henderson when he does this.

His fitness record is such that you never quite get to see him at peak fitness, but inbetween that he is joy to watch, brilliant at turning on the ball, clever disguise on his passes, brave and composed in possession, would love him to go injury free till the end of the season.

The reason he sometimes gets caught in possession is because he's almost like a quarterback in American Football, he'll hold onto the ball until the very last possible moment to release the right pass.  He won't just pass for the sake of it.

The great thing was after that one lapse Atletico pressed him more but because he's so confident in his close control and skill, he's able to jink the ball past them and then has the ball in space where he can cause damage with his range of passing.

I loved his little cameo last night, one of the most technically gifted players I've seen. Having him and Trent in the same team almost feels like cheating.

He can certainly be cut some slack for the midweek cameo, today's performance less so.

It's basically blind luck that he hasn't cost us two goals in two games. He doesn't exactly have an abundance of credit in the bank unlike say Robbo or Ali either.

Hopefully Spain can give him some minutes and we get a non punch drunk version back.
