I`m enjoying the limited documentary "High Score" on Netflix about the genesis of video gaming. It takes me back to my wasted youth
Watched that myself.
It was quite American-centric I thought (Fair play because it was made in America) - but also came out with some total shite.
When Carmack solved scrolling on the PC they were saying "Nothing could scroll like that" - this was absolute bollocks as the Atari computer range (And then the Amiga following it) could hardware scroll.
There were also a lot of misleading technical gaffs and omissions about the technology at the time, custom chips - how could you not mention SID, Antic, Pokey, Denise, CTIA/GTIA, Agnes, Paula, Gary and all the custom chips around a the time?
Why not mention the Sincalir ZX80 then ZX81 (Or Timex if you prefer for the American market) - why not mention the C64, VIC-20 and the like?
The whole area of kids breaking into computing and learning BASIC or Z80 or 6502 or 68000 was completely missed out.
Good series, but so many omissions made it good rather than great.
