Android Phones - Apps and stuff
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:58:30 am »
I have had the HTC Hero (G2) phone now for a few weeks and I love it. It was a bit slow to start with but then I discovered TasKiller to shut down unwanted apps in the background and it runs really well. Thought I would start a thread for all geek app chat and stuff like that.

I know there's a couple of people here with one and there's probably more who have other android phones. Can anyone recommend anything life changing or decent apps (free or otherwise) that are worth having?

At the moment I have

Beebplayer
Soccerlivescores
The official Facebook app
BBC News widget

And a few dafties too. Any recommendations?
Roy. Shut up. Just shut up.

Downloaded google skymaps last night for a wee look, bloody fantastic. For those that dont know, you hold your phone up to thr sky and it tells you what you're looking at - star wise, planet wise and constellation wise. Has the night sky mapped out and as you turn or point your phone in a different direction, the view changes.

Clever bit of kit. Utterly useless for me when I was standing in a well lit street, but fascinating never the less.

Use a few of the footy ones to catch scores while I'm out, not bad. FotMob the main one.

Just got that Beebplayer, nifty little thing that.

Shazam is decent for finding out a few old tunes which no idea of the name.

None mate. I will look at that tunewiki, was just using their standard music player myself.

Have downloaded DroidLive lite which searches for radio stations and that - really recommend it if you want a bit of variety.

Listening to Radio Sunshine the other day from Germany.

but...

Its all about the brand. HTC isnt big enough to push it to the big time and the way it is sold is all wrong.

Doesnt matter what it can do or how it operates, they havent got the marketing right and it will never be as big.

Had a look at the bill, and cant see how much I use. I have unlimited (probably capped at a reasonable level - but I cant see it anywhere) data usage apparently.
