I'd want her sacked for that and wouldn't stop until she was. You can't go around making false allegations like that.

No chance of her getting sacked unless she was already on a final written warning. Would potentially be up for gross misconduct but at worst she would be on a written warning for 2 years (in NI Civil Service at least). A half decent Union rep and she'd get away with a 1 year warning if she was found 'guilty' of it.

Cheers Debs, I thought that to be honest.
Definitely an HR matter. It's tantamount to her creating a "hostile working environment" and you can be certain that if the boot were on the other foot she'd (rightly) pursue you with a case.

At the very least, she needs to be pulled up on the mistaken identity part and put right, with a very firm reminder of her responsibility as a civil servant and as a member of your team.

If your OS is on the SSD you're replacing, yes.

This is what you need assuming it is Windows 10: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Bear in mind this does not mean it will necessarily activate when you install it. That will depend on your license type (OEM/Retail/linked to your Microsoft account etc).

Yes, think so, but I don't have a link. Also not quite sure how it works with activation on windows. I somehow think they know, and you don't have to do it, but not sure.

Should work ok. I put an SSD in my youngests laptop I downloaded the installation onto USB from my laptop and then me and the eldest build a PC at Christmas and we used his old laptop to create the USB. No need to activate either time

It depends on the original license type. If it is OEM and the key is baked into the firmware then you should be fine.

If it is retail and you had to activate using a product key, you are going to need that key.....

How far back can you make a claim in your car insurance?

Someone drove into the side of my gfs car about 18 months ago. He said he was going to pay to get it fixed at his friends garage but then COVID hit and he’s ghosting us now.

It’s still with the same insurance company.

You are supposed to report all incidents to your insurance even if you don't intend to claim so you might face awkward questions and they may even decline you cover when they find out... they would be entitled to.

Just bought a new SSD to replace the old one, will I need to install the operating system again?
Just to follow up on this, what's the best way to transfer everything from my current SSD to the new one?

I'd say buy one of these (or something similar) and then your old SSD will in effect be an external hard drive for you, you can then transfer everything over and still keep a back up of it on the old SSD. Someone techy will be able to tell you if I'm wrong or not though.

Assuming the old SSD connects via SATA, and if your PC/laptop has a spare sata/power connection, you can disconnect the old SSD, hook up the new one and clean install the OS on it. Power down and reconnect the old SSD. When you boot you will given the option to select which disk to boot from. Choose the new one.

You should then be able to access all the files and folders from the old SSD and copy/paste them over to the new SSD - this will give the fastest transfer speeds. If the old SSD has a decent capacity you can then format (wipe) it and retain it in the machine or shove it in an external enclosure as Welshred has suggested.

If you can't connect both SSDs, or if the old SSD is too small to be useful, high capacity external hard drives are ~£80-90 for 4TB. A USB3 model will give better transfer speeds if your PC/laptop has a USB3 port. Always good practice to backup your stuff so potentially a worthwhile investment if you don't do this already.

Cloud storage is another option - most companies give a few GB 'free', but it can get expensive for larger amounts of data (£80+ a year for TB scale storage). It can also take days to upload/download depending on your files/internet speeds.

Our Virgin internet connection in the house has always been ok if some what sometimes slow over the years but since new neighbours had a sky dish fitted right on the border of the two houses and actually over on our side we have lost connection in the bedrooms now and again.
My wife phoned Virgin and their person on the phone didn't even know what Buffering meant and suggested we up-grade.

The poor Wifi connection and the internet playing up seems to coincide with Sky getting fitting next door and when my wife is watching TV on her phone in bed it loses connection, buffers and the Sky option to connect comes up.

Is it just that next doors Sky is the stronger Wifi signal and we do need to up-grade and by the way all the dishes fitted around here are on the border of each house and not on the far side of the house for some reason..

                                                                                                                  Thanks..

It won't be the dish that is causing the issue as it is not related to wifi, but it's possible your neighbpour got Sky broadband installed at the same time, with a new Sky router. It could cause issues with interference if they are using the same channel. An upgrade might help, if say for example your current router only supports 2.4GHz, but you might just be able to login to the router and change to a different channel.

If that doesn't help then this thread on WiFi extenders has been really helpful for me recently. Got one of the devices recommended and haven't had an issue in any of the bedrooms in my house since.

Thanks both. I've got all my files now backed up onto an external storage but it's more my programs I'm wary about, especially Chrome which holds some vital information. Last PC I sold I logged out of it but it still remembered my login details and all my bookmarks and passwords which I wasn't expecting.

Just an update on that woman from work who was telling all kinds that I was some stalking weirdo/Ted Bundy type.

I got my bosses involved who naturally hit the roof, they got her boss involved who pulled her in. She wanted to apologise in person but I swerved that (I'm too much of a soft touch and if she'd started crying I'd have felt bad), so I just asked for her to tell her team she had the wrong person and then asked for an apology off her by email which I got both.

I made sure I didn't want her to be sorry she was caught out, I wanted her to know she had the wrong person.

I'm sure it will be awkward as hell next time in the lift, but I couldn't let that go.
