Laptops never look great on pics tho do they, except when Dell blast snazzy covers on them, or Macbooks :D

Doubt you'll fill up 160gb HDD anyway, at least not with meaningful stuff ie when you reach a point you can start deleting stuff you got months ago and have no idea why you kept :P

Old porn. ;) ;D

Arrived earlier today and it looks alright actually. Didn't take long to charge and seems reasonably fast when booting up and shutting down. Got go through the bore now that is sorting out all the security on it. Still looking for the 4th USB slot aswell... :P

Not yet Dell reckon another 2 weeks, didnt realise when i ordered it online that it would take 4 weeks to arrive!

Bloody need it now as well old lap lop is on its arse and needs a complete reformatt and starting again. that'll be me first job when the new lap top arrives.

Well get AVG etc put on the new one shift a few files over then wipe the old lap top and start again. See if i can ge the thing fixed.

Then when i bring me work lap top on we can all have a computer each sit in different rooms and never have to talk to each other again!

Said this the other day in the desktop thread - this is the worst time to buy a new machine - all these hot deals and shit its because Intel are doing a technology refresh - wait a month and their new celerons are coming out which are mental in terms of efficiency and battery life - same with desktops and nehelam.

however if you must have one now then for around 360 the new samsung notebook is well worth a punt - tries to be a vaio but for 20% of the price - nice machine.

But anyone buying a processor or top of range mobo at the moment - beware - in a months time it will be last years shite (although still powerful   ;)!!
I'm not saying I disagree with you but, you're pissing in the wind if you think calling someone a c*nt on the net is gonna change the way they think.

To be fair, I see it the other way round- now's a good time to get some bargains. The new processors will no doubt be good, but they'll also come at a premium price, and the current processors are more than capable.

What software are you using? If everything else is OK with your current machine, it'd be cheaper to look for a different program than lash out on a new laptop.

i got vista installed (offical disc) on my 2nd hard disk. ever since had problems, with it constantly crashing/stalling screen going blank for long periods.

Have you tried saving everything off, then doing a clean format and reinstall? Vista gets a bad press, but it's usually rock solid in terms of stability. What do you mean by second hard disk, by the way?

i seen to have 2 drivers when i turn it on. 1 has XP and the other was empty untill i put vista on. i might just get the whole thing wiped and re-install everythin and see how it goes.

Yeah, I'd do the latter. I'd guess you have your drive partitioned, rather than having two of them. Nuke the lot, reinstall XP or Vista and try again.

God knows, but does it really matter!

You've picked 2 to choose from, one in stock one out of stock.

surely decision made!  ;)

Have had a similar experience with them. Have got a Studio 17. The laptop is great, no complaints. Their customer service is legendarily poor. They were total useless fuckheads the whole way up to my laptop arriving a week late.

When you reinstall you need to install all the relevant drivers and put them in the correct order. This is the most likely reason for your problems.

I think he meant drives, Gonzo. He sounds like he has XP on one partition, and Vista on the other.

Yeah I know but you cant just put Vista on. You have to set it up after. Laptops especially tend to have a lot of specific drivers. The overall system instability in his other set up points to bad drivers.

You want to take your eyes off the numbers and go have a look at the machines if possible. RAM and HD can be upgraded if needed, anyway, so prioritise the things you can't upgrade. The quality of the screen, keyboard, case etc. are all important and never mentioned. Some machines have really loud cooling fans, or crap screen latches.
Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur.
