yea its terrible, i just want one button to bring up the tv guide. more menus argh.

i have noticed if you drum the back up button it takes you to the tv guide, not sure if its just me tho.

Not just you and I hate that new functionality; accidently press backup and then you have to press it several times to get back to full screen TV

Press the Sky button at the top and it should take you right to the TV.

That is good, probably saving about £60 a month there aren't you?

Has anyone dealt with retentions recently and how did you get on?

Have Sky TV + Sports, had O2 broadband which is now sky but seem to be paying too much for them. Moving house in a couple of weeks and going to give them a call and see what they offer. Just wondering if anyone has any success stories of dealing with them and getting a really good deal!

It's a good idea to have prepared what you're actually looking for and what you're prepared to pay for that. Ring Virgin and see what the best deal is they'll offer you, then ring Sky and tell them what you're being offered and what they can do to better it. Be realistic though. You're not going to get the full package for 15 quid.

I normally cancel sports over the summer but you now have to give a months notice - for our matches I think that's this weekend. Takes a few hours to put back on if you need to.

To get the beast deals from retentions you usually have to actually follow through on your threat to leave at least once.

They offered me very little last time I tried it on with them, about £5 a month off, so I did actually follow up on my threat for a change.

I thought I would have to wait 3-6 months before I got a decent offer, but they got back in touch within a month of mine being turned off, offered 60% off my package price for 12 months and a £100 credit, ends up averaging about £20 a month for Sports, HD and all the family pack or whatever they call it (basically get everything apart from movies)

It probably helped that I was on BT broadband and said I would go with BT TV, which costs next to nothing

anyone know of a reliable way to get your recorded programs off a SKY HD box?
think my box is on it's last legs, one of the original HD boxes, so the hard drive has likely had its chips and then some!

Yeah that's definitely important. I have got both my mum and brother to threaten to leave them. Told them both to say if they don't get a deal, just tell them to cancel it. Neither did, and my mum actually ended up paying more and got Sports added fuck sake. They'll always, always ring you before the month has elapsed. Even if they didn't, (which they will) you can still ring on day 28 and get them to cancel the cancellation. Call their bluff. They'll blink first.

You can transfer your shows to another HDD using certain software, but there is no way to extract the shows to your computer and watch them there, due to DRM.

thanks for the tip, spoke to them yesterday and ended up getting 20% off for 12months and free house move / install. Doesn't sound as good as some of the above but we were paying around £50 for the TV and Sports alone. O2 BB was £12ish a month which never changed when it merged (I didn't look into it) and then a BT line rental on top which (im guessing) was £18-20 a month.

Ive gone with the tv+sports, unlimited BB and sky phone line, 20% off for 12 months coming in at £56 a month. Maybe I should have stuck to my threat to leave but I was pretty happy with that as I mentioned we were paying nearly £50 for TV alone. I have a hundred things in my head with work, moving house in a couple of weeks and our first baby due in July, this was relatively easy and one thing less to think about!

Yep. Didn't used to be the case but certainly is now.

I left them last year after getting next to nothing from them in terms of a retentions package. Stuck with Freesat for a few months until they offered me something decent which was 60% off for a whole year. So we're currently paying £69.10 for Family Bundle with Sports, Movies and HD in two rooms as well as 40Mb Fibre and telephone. Also got £100 bill credit.

is there anything in particular you say / threaten to the advisor to get deals? when i ring up i make a point of saying im "thinking" of leaving rather than i want to cancel, they tend to offer some sort of deal.  Most of the time i get 20% for a year, tho when i did leave a few years back they sent me out an offer for 50% off for 12 months. I would like something like that again, but i dont want to go through with the cancellation and them not contacting me for a few months!

If i go through with the cancellation, when does the 30 day period start if i want to cancel? does it start from my next bill date or from the date i ring them? i could go through with that and if i dont get a decent offer for 30 days just ring them back and turn it on?

They play hardball these days. Don't say you're 'thinking' of cancelling because they'll know you aren't.

Ring to give your 30 days notice to cancel. It's not final and you can withdraw that request right upto day 29 with no harm done, but you have to work harder these days to get a decent discount.

One for the techs out there

If i download a programme onto my planner on the HD box and then take the HD Box elsewhere and connect to a tv with HDMI can i still access the planner and play the programme?  I'm dubious.

Looks like i can't.  You need a satellite feed to allow to watch and that feed must be the same subscription as it downloads in an encrypted form.

Agree it really is bad but then people like us complain loads but just never get round to cancelling.

I did ring up to cancel a few weeks ago but after bring in a queue for 20 odd mins then listening to there shit they just cut me off when I told them I still wanted to cancel, since then I have just not got round to phoning them back but for the money it really isn't worth having no more.

As soon as the footie finishes i thinks that's it for me and Sky - the problems with the box still hasn't been sorted even though they are supposedly sending another software update to try and fix (ongoing issue with a lot of people on their forum).  Will look around for TV deals inc Sky Sports with BT and Virgin but will probably hit FreeSat until August/September.

It's a silverlight/google issue rather than a Sky one.  Google has stopped supporting the NAPI interface which Silverlight needs to run and Microsoft are yet to provide a plugin that uses another supported API.

It has absolutely nothing to do with Sky.

What browser are you using for Sky Go? Can't seem to get any of them to work since Silverlight was no longer supported by Chrome. Absolutely messed up the Barca v Bayern match tonight having to watch it on an awful stream.

I know this trick usually works but with the whole BT Champions League thing you seem to have a lot more leverage should you wish to threaten to cancel in order to lower your bill,

The missus and I usually take turns every year or so to ring Sky in order to get a better deal (we can't get Virgin in our area but they don't seem to know that!). Upon receiving their recent notification of the price increasing I felt compelled to ring again, they originally tried to fob me off with the usual half price line rental bullshit but they I played the 'how can you justifying increasing the price when you've lost the biggest competition you had to your nearest rival?! Surely it should be cheaper?? I got the impression I wasn't the first person to ring with this argument,

Anyway in the end I got £30 off my bill for 12 months because I think they're realising these are no longer empty promises.

'Home of European Football'? I'll remember that when watching Barca v Bayern next season on BT whilst ADO Den Haag v NAC Breda is on Sky Sports 5

So does this mean on any browser (Using Windows) it won't work? I can only get SkyGo to work on Explorer but you can barely watch a match on it as it buffers for a few milliseconds making the picture go out of sync. Safari only loads 100% and then shows a black screen, Firefox doesn't load past the sign in page. Really frustrating because it worked perfectly on Chrome.

i currently have the full hd package along with 2 extra multiroom boxes, costs just under £100 per month. i rang up on monday and done the usual threatening to leave speech, i was offered basically £25 off per month if i stayed, i decided to go a head with the cancellation and activated my 30 days notice (had no intention of leaving). today i received a call from sky regarding why i was leaving, i was offered 50% off per month with a £50 credit put on my account (which covers my first payment).  i jumped at the chance, means im paying £51 per month now (just checked my account to confirm) and have my first month covered via the credit she applied to my account. sorted :D

Been paying £75 a month for last few years and decided to finally ring up and cancel. To say I'm glad now is an understatement the guy dealing with me became really aggressive on the phone and no offer he was ever gonna give me was gonna stop me cancelling due to his attitude. When they ring up to try and get me to change my mind I will be def mentioning how horrific my experience of cancelling was.
