My contract is up next month and I want my new phone to be as small as possible. Don't care about camera, video, games, mp3 or any of that shite as long as I can make calls and texts.
I've seen the Samsung P300 but it looks like a calculator and I hate the Samsung user interface. Anyone got any suggestions?

Anyone follow up on this?

Lookin one of these myself, "some" bells and whistles are fine, but when they bloat it up, nah.  Don't like the flip phones either and the W800i doesn't look the best.

I like my motorola L6, slim got good features (bad if you like your games!) but doesn't have a lot of memory for texts and stuff (150 texts stored at once)  you can use mp3's as ringtone quite loud roingtones.

Right.  For the past year, I have been using a Palm Treo 650 for phone and email but it gives me more and more grief on a daily basis.  It must go, as much as I love palm products.

The question is what do I replace it with?  Need good mobile email, so am considering a Blackberry but have heard that they aren't the best as a phone.  Any thoughts?

If the Blackerry is not a good phone and must be a stand alone email device, what is a good smallish Nokia phone to buy in addition?  Need decent capacity for contacts and as good sound as possible.

Thanks.

The phone is available all over the world, but is branded up as Orange in the UK. Can't remember the manufacturer, but will try to check the manual later and let you know. :wave

Dont like the N80 personally - got really nice features but still takes an age to load the menu when you press menu like with the other N series. Dont know if anyone else finds the same?

No mate I don't. I think there was a problem with an earlier firmware, but that has been sorted now. Also just loaded the Secret of Monkey Island onto it via SCUMM emulator to play on the train etc. Only thing I don't like is the battery life. Nokia may apparantly be releasing a better power unit though.

Nice one, thanks for that mate.  Think i will be goin for the N80.

On another forum, someone has mentioned that if you fully charge (16hours) and discharge the battery then the battery life really improves.

This is a standard response from Nokia..........truth is, as phone do more & more stuff, the battery life becomes worse!

A lot of the N series of handsets take a while to power up, but Nokia do release software updates on a daily basis to combat this (as Mooro said), so it might be worth checking with your local CNSP (or PM me, and i'll tell you what the latest software version for your phone is - I manage 2 Club Nokia Service Points)  :)

Certainly true when mobile phones used Ni-Cd & NiMH batteries, but not for todays Li-ion batteries.

Im allowed a new phone as an upgrade. Not sure what the hell to get though!

N80 has been offered to me, as has the w810i. Neither have really stood out.

I refuse to get a samsung because of their Chelseaness.

Any suggestions? All I do is text and call on it. I like the idea of having sat nav on the n80 though!

I'm on a pay as you go with Virgin Mobile at the moment using an old Nokia I got off my brother in law (total skinflint I am) but I fancy one of those Motorola L7 Red things with the donations to Aids charities. They cost about £120 though to stay on pay as you go, can get them free on some contracts.

Matt S - do you know if or when the Nokia N73 will be released? And will the initial price of this phone likely to be around £200-250 SIM free? I've read a few reviews on the web and a magazine which i buy nearly every month. I'm hoping to get this mobile to replace my current one i.e. a Nokia 6630, although i wanted to get a Sony Erricson T610i but the price of the new memory card format M2 and a couple of the fastures of that phone weren't up impressive

Texts yes. Numbers - copy them all on to your sim using your old phone, then they will appear on the new one.

sorry mate havent seen any details of that yet! prob be a couple of months at least - if at all on o2!

I'd highly recomend sony ericsson above anything else. Even with the k800 not comming with a memory card - go on www.mobymemory.com - by far the cheapest place around other than ebay! Its well worth it. I have the w810 myself and wouldnt trade it for anything else (phone wise - if you offered me like a private jet or something then I'd probably trade)

When the heck is this phone gonna charge up, started at 6:30 and said in the leaflet it will be 2.5hrs.  Still doing the flashy on off thing when charging, is that normal for SE?

Haha, yea... hmmm, forgot to stick the battery in (assumed it was in already and didn't wanna touch it while charging, yes yes excuses...), my fault.

This phone is class though, a big difference from the old Nokia 8310 I had before.

However, some of my messages did not transfer into this new phone, what gives? Should I put the SIM back into the old one and try and re-do it?

Just thought I'd link into this as I was wandering whether people thought this was a good deal?

On a pay as you go at the minute and spending upwards of £30 per month, mainly on texts but do use the phone to make a couple of calls- around 5 minutes a dayish… Found a deal on the 02 website (online 200 - 200 mins x/net anytime and 500 texts for £30 and choice of phone)

That seem like a good deal or is there anywhere else that can offer that for less or something better for the same price?

Also what phone would you recommend out of a LG ChocolateKG800, a Samsung Z400, a Nokia N70 or a Samsung E870? (they're the main choices with this tariff)
......and could he play!
