Once Upon a Time in the West

It's long, and slow, but this is really a film you can sink your teeth into. Bronson is iconic, more than picking up the Man With No Name baton from Eastwood. Claudia Carnivale is gorgeous, Henry Fonda changes tack to make a terrific villain and the supporting cast - many of them dubbed from Italian - are great. And that's before you get on to the plot, which is both fully realised and deep enough to provide the basis for a TV series, as well as the action set pieces, the incredible cinematography and arguably Morricone's best soundtrack work. One of my all-time favourites. This is from the opening, and follows a sequence where three mean hombres descend on a railway station. They have been waiting, but for what?

Exercise is to the body what reading is to the mind.

"If I hadn't doped, I would never have won". "Doping improves your performance between 5 and 7 per cent, and maybe 10 to 12 per cent when you are in a peak shape.

"Doping isn't addictive but it's an instrument of power: whoever wins attracts the money; for themselves, the team and the sponsors"

My final (!) pick is one of pure cinematic spectacle. A masterpiece from one of film's visionaries. Telling the past, present and future of humans in four sublime acts, I present: Stanley Kubrick's 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Christiane F (Foreign Language)

A stark and shocking portrayal of the drug scene in West Berlin in the 1970s, based on the non-fiction book of the same name written following tape recordings of teenage girl Christiane F. The movie immediately acquired cult status (which it still retains today) and features David Bowie as both himself and the soundtrack composer.

The soundtrack.

    "V-2 Schneider"
    "TVC 15"
    "Heroes/Helden"
    "Boys Keep Swinging"
    "Sense of Doubt"
    "Station to Station" (Live)
    "Look Back in Anger"
    "Stay"
    "Warszawa"

If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.
