The best band in the world..right now
« on: May 19, 2017, 11:04:19 pm »
Plenty can stake a claim,  on record or on stage, for years of for months, in front of thousands or tens,  The Stooges, the Fabs, Sonic Youth, The Clash, The Wailers, The Cramps and a thousand others.

Who are the most vital, original, arse kicking  band on earth right now....?

Protomartyr, power and style , no shit taken, you can hear the influence yeh , but when it comes together they just sound like them , three great records on the bounce.

Radiohead.

Been the benchmark for the last 20 years, quite poignant right now but i  first saw them live in December 1997 at the Manchester Arena,i saw Oasis the night after at the Gmex but they were musically no where near these guys from Oxford. :D

Very subjective dependent on musical taste.

Best live band I've seen in the last year are Gentleman's Dub Club

Wow two guys beat me to the punch.

I was gonna say "Thee Oh Sees" or "The National".

Listen to "Plastic Plant" by the former or "Fake Empire" by the latter for confirmation.

Thee Oh Sees have been my favourite band since 29th May 2008 when I paid 6 and a half euro to see them in the little room at the top of the Paradiso, Amsterdam. I think it was Quadrospazzed that absolutely blew me away.

https://www.paradiso.nl/web/Agenda-Item/THEE-OH-SEES.htm

There was only about 30 people there and we had a beer with John Dwyer afterwards.

I last saw them in Rotterdam about 2 weeks ago and there was around a thousand people there going fucking nuts. What a band.

I'll tell you one thing for sure... I wouldn't trust no words written down on no piece of paper, especially from no Dickenson out in the town of Machine.

If you want my more recent pick for more innovative guitar band, check out Suuns. Saw em at the psychedelia festival and they were boss. Every album seems to introduce new dynamics and they really can do it live.

Check out 2020 by em :)

The National/Mastodon.

Matt Caughthran from The Bronx as the best front man.

Always and always will be Joy Division. Are there any similar bands out there I should be listening to?

Defo.

That was really what I was after , not the Joy Division bit, that's been done to death from all sides.  But who  are the ones right now.  The National are getting the few votes from in here, understandable i suppose - I do like them, but the best in the werld...a band like that, its a sorry state of affairs.

Thee Oh Sees are one of the very best live bands I've seen. Saw them on valentines day a few years ago now and there were barely a 100 people there. Saw John Dwyer, Petey,  and Brigid walk on stage with their gear, set everything up themselves in 5 minutes and then John just say "Hey, were Thee Oh Sees. Thank you very fucking much for coming out tonight." and proceeded to melt everyone's faces for the next hour or so. Been in love since.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.
