Watched the first one, enjoyed it. Needing something to fill the gap 'Breakbad Bad' left in my life. Was made up when Saul made an appearance!

So what happened to him when he went downstairs? He dissapeared? I was hoping it would be explained in the second ep

Not normally my sort of thing this. These big american drama series. Yeah the acting is superb, plots complex and the character building of the highest standard yada yada etc etc but I lost interest in The Walking Dead, hated Homeland, hated Lost, hated True Detective which was just stupid, never seen Breaking Bad, would only rate The Sopranos as 8/10 and only enjoyed the African American strain of The Wire... but really loving the 1st two episodes of Fargo. Without doubt I think it'll go on to be my favourite american series. Instantly gripped after catching it on C4+1 last weekend. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

The first episode was very enjoyable. I was reluctant to watch it at first - due to my love of the film - but this looks very promising. Billy Bob Thornton was tremendous.

Second episode a step down from the heights of the pilot, but still very impressive viewing.

Agreed.  But it was probably a necessary episode - it shows that it's different to the film, and expands the characters (Adam Goldberg and his deaf mate, and showing more of Colin Hanks's character).  It's got ten hours of screen time to fill.

Two great BBT moments:
Spoiler
1. When Oliver Platt's tough guy appears to threaten him, heading to the jacks and dropping trou'  was the best response ever.

2. His conversation with the post office guy. 'This is a highly unusual situation'
'No. Finding a human foot inside a toaster oven is highly unusual. This is just odd'

Really enjoyed the 2nd episode. As already mentioned it was never going to be as fast paced and frantic as the pilot but it was just what was needed - slowed down, let the characters breathe and shaped where its going.

BBT is just immense and the last scene was pretty chilling in its banality. Hopefully it maintains this quality!

Found last night's episode funnier than than the first so it was a bit different to it from that. Still highly enjoyable. BBT's characters is great and Martin Freeman is playing the role of Lester brilliantly. He's a killer but I've been growing an affinity towards him and found myself on his side when the cop was grilling him so much over his wife's death, even if she was right about her hunch!

Spoiler
He didn't mean to either. She was a c*nt and presumably all these years of being under her control, a victim of such behaviour and a possible passive aggressive shit, built up for what happened.

Just seen the second episode & thought it was pretty good, an obvious decrease in pace from the first episode but it helped get to know the characters a bit more. Billy Bob Thornton is simply awesome & plays his role perfectly!

The only bit I didn't like of the 2nd episode was
Spoiler
the opening scene with the sign language, seemed to go for ages and was all very american style comedy. But after that it was amazing. I like the storyline with the female cop digging for clues on Lester, and the story with the cop and his daughter seems interesting. You wonder what's going to happen there.

I downloaded the 2nd episode last wednesday morning from america, but I think I might just wait each week and watch it on the sunday night like everyone else. I watched it again anyway the other day and was a good short distraction from that fucking football match what happened.

Agree with you about the sign language scene, that did nothing for me & seemed to drag slightly. Didn't take anything away from the episode as whole though.

don't want to read the thread as i've only seen the first episode, but i was very impressed.   looked beautiful, and its probably been said before but lots of echoes of the pilot of breaking bad (not just because both leads are nice guys who end up at a death scene in their underwear...)  and bob odenkirk!  can't wait to watch episode 2.

also it's nice to see freeman's trademark facial tics translate to americanese :)

Another great episode. BBT is amazing. He'll be picking up Emmy's and Globes for this one.

McConaughey will win everything, but BBT has been tremendous and deserves something for sure.

You think Freeman is the star? I don't agree but I hope you're right.

Even so, that puts him up against Harrelson!

To be fair...how they decide what's a supporting role and what's a leading role seems random at best. But yeah...Harrelson vs BBT is a tough one.

IMO you're right but they'll put Harrelson in supporting because McConaughey was the star of the show.

All of this is very bad news for Breaking Bad, Mad Men etc.

Billy Bob Thornton is class in the this. Not seen him in anything else to compare. Watched episode 4 earlier on download, not as good as last week but still great. Cliffhanger is the best yet and sets up next week nicely. The beginning scene is one of the best scenes so far too.

I saw most of that True Detective. Yeah. Pretentious shite. The camera man should win an award for owning a good HD camera. And the scriptwriter should win an award for being able to basically write a bible of pretentious american guff for Matthew McCougney fanboy types to lap up. That's about it.

It's highly likely that BBT and McConaughey will be in separate categories, but not for the reasons you guys have stated. HBO has entered True Detective in the Drama category (to much gnashing of teeth) which means if Fargo is entered as a Miniseries (which seems likely considering FX's President is one of the main teeth-gnashers over TD) then they won't go head to head. McConaughey can win for Lead Actor in a Drama (although methinks Brian Cranston might have something to say on the matter and Matthew Rhys really should but won't) while BBT could take Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie.

By the way, this just keeps getting better. I think every episode has been stronger than the one preceding it.

Really is getting better and better, particularly impressed with the actress who plays Molly.

Completely agree. She's been fantastic.

Yeah, well that just isn't true now is it?

In the past few years, he's starred and been involved in great films such us The Dallas Buyers Club, Mud, Killer Joe, Bernie and the Lincoln Lawyer - which are a far cry from the Rom-Coms you mention. He's become much more selective with his roles, accepting more challenging ones and as such and he's doing better for it.

Erm, no.  He hasn't been making rom-coms for at least three years, and has starred in some of the more interesting films to come out of the states during that period, and I don't mean The Wolf Of Wall Street.  He's always been a good actor, albeit one that didn't do himself any favours with the roles he chose.

As for Fargo, I had my doubts before it aired, but I'm glad I was wrong.

Fantastic series so far and loved the bit that tied in with what happened to the bag full of money dug in the snow from the film.
"Since its purchase by the sheikh of Abu Dhabi, Manchester City has managed to cheat its way into the top echelon of European football and create a global, immensely profitable football empire, ignoring rules along the way. The club's newfound glory is rooted in lies."
