Finally someone opened a thread I can speak intelligently about instead of this football mystery!

I have lived/worked in Vegas on-and-off over the last two and a half years, and still go up on weekends quite frequently as I am only  a few hours away.

You say you've already booked time at the Quad, fair play.  As everyone will tell you, the hotel is for sleeping unless you are really doing it up $$$$.  As general advice though, especially on trips that last as long as ten days, I will say that you can get crazy deals on the strip midweek (around $30-40 for a room at the mid-tier casinos like Excalibur, Stratosphere, Luxor New York New York).  So if you wanted to move on to the strip for the weekdays you could migrate with the deals.

With regards to joining the casino rewards programs- always a good idea if you are going to be spending more than a few hours gambling at a place, or want to eat/shop/see a show there.  For instance, there are buffets at many casinos, and nearly all are about 40% less if you are a member there.  Most membership cards can be attained with very minimal hassle (a visit to the cage/front desk, or sometimes they have a line specifically just for the membership program).  And they sometimes have some random shit thrown in as partnerships that you wouldn't expect- casino chains own theaters, restaurants, aquariums, et al, and there is often a discount.  Also, being a bloke, you'll be expected to pay at the worthwhile (read: quality talent on display) pools, many of which are cheaper for members.
And, if you don't want to risk getting on an email list or whatever, since you can just stop and get the card right before whatever you need it for, and since you won't interested in becoming local and accruing points on whatever long term programs they have, you can put whatever fake contact info you want, so long as you get a little plastic card.

More importantly, re: strip clubs.
Little Darlings is fully nude, but if I had a guess, most of the girls there applied to the topless ones first, if you catch my meaning.  This isn't an indictment though, because Vegas has a lot more supply than demand for strippers, so the standards are still pretty high.
If you are ever on the strip in a group of men over 4 large, you will almost certainly be approached by men who tell you they are a shuttle service to a strip club.  They will say that you get a free ride there (they will have a stretch Escalade, Hummer, or the like) and back whenever you are done.  PLUS two free drinks, or maybe a lapdance.  They are most likely only lying about the details, and at least won't drive you out to the desert and murder you.  So it is probably safe to follow them.  You will get a free ride to the strip club (they may tell you a tip is expected, but I once specifically told the guy at the outset he wouldn't get a thing, because I knew he was lying about everything, and he seemed cool with it, so they definitely get a commission for bringing you in, DO NOT tip those pied piping bastards).  You will not get anything else.  They pull up, you get out, they drive off for the next saps and you have to pay whatever applicable cover charge there is (there isn't usually one).  But if, at the outset, you know it is nothing more than a free taxi ride to the strip club, and you were planning on going anyway, it is still a good thing.
Also, in my experience, "topless only" means "I can't take them off, so they are pulled to the side for better tips."

Also, if you go to Olympic Gardens, and a girl walks up and reaches in your pants to grab your junk, then chokes you with your belt and pulls you to a table for a free dance, make sure you ask Natasha if it is her son Jonathan is at his fathers tonight before you go with her...

As far as the shows, yeah, you're fucked there for money if you want to go.  If you can figure out a way to see them on the cheap, let me know.  I'm a people watcher, me.  And that is really the best thing about Las Vegas.  Interacting with strangers.  It is a city where not only do the people not get offended by whatever behavior you can dream up, they expect it.  They paid for it.  I challenge you to get slapped.  I have seen a friend spanked by a stranger with her belt, but never slapped.
And if you can do it all with a proud boner, then why the hell not?

Can someone please offer me advice with hotels?

Why do some hotels (most hotels) never show pictures of individual rooms or suites? So many have very little pictures, or none at all. Granted some have a video tour but not many. Hotels on this side of the water have up to a dozen pictures of each hotel room available. I'm really struggling with hotels at the minute.

Anyone stayed in one with a tub in the room?

Friends stayed in the Luxor and had a tub overlooking the strip which I can see (barely) from their site but the decor of the rooms is a bit dated...

Can anyone recommend a hotel on the Strip, with a tub/jacuzzi in the room/bathroom?

Went through the major hotels and I think I saw two pictures of tubs.

Obviously it's costly so prepared to pay more for it, but not Presidential Suite prices!

Is it worth just booking a standard room then trying to upgrade at the hotel?

I've stayed at a few on the strip and I don't remember any of them missing a bath.  No jacuzzis though but I think most of the hotels have a suite with that included.

Stayed at Planet Hollywood (used to be Alladin I think) last time and that had a bath for sure.

Also if you dig around you can normally get a floorplan for the rooms off the hotel websites.

Went ahead and booked the quad - tripadviser had mixed reviews but a lot of positive ones. But it's cheap which is the main thing, more money for the gambling fund!

the quad rooms are small and if you are on the carnival court side then don't be expecting an early night as its very loud. don't eat at the buffet there.
its a great central location.
If you can swing a suite then do it - they are at the top and have a decent sized balcony.
The quad knows its customer base and tends to be pretty lenient towards loud drunks.

unless you have a party on the balcony and end up being louder than carnival court. Then they give you a warning and then kick you out of the suite. allegedly.

Tub Jacuzzi? sure. the quad has then - in certain rooms. now have a think about the low price for the quad. and what goes on in tub Jacuzzis. and the low price. and the quality of cleaning.

showers are good.

Strip clubs - often taxis get kick backs too so they'll take you for free - obviously they would love the kickback and a fare so ask upfront before getting in a cab (and you have to get a cab off the streets - you can't just flag one down). you'll be on your own getting back from a club though!! however the limos that drop people off - they are heading back to the strip to get more customers - you might get a ride in one of them for a low cash price - never hurts to ask.

don't be taken in by offers of free tickets to shows and cash - it normally means you have to watch a timeshare presentation and it will eat hours of your life in a location that's impossible to get back from.

You can buy drink at an offie (or other suitable location) and make your own drinks and take them out on the streets. its a good way to cut back on expenses on a longer trip.
also - be a diabetic!!! or tell the hotel you are - they'll normally provide you with a fridge. good for left over food (that drunk 1/2 a buffalo sandwich at 3am) and mixers for the spirits you buy at the offie.

break up your trip and budget - do a couple of days of non gambling. use the pool. go shoot guns. do go-carting. get a bus trip to the grand canyon (it will take a day on the bus!!). 10 days of gambling and partying will leave a serious dent in your wallet. and liver.

I last about 5 days in vegas before a month of no alcohol seems like a really good idea.

oh - and learn poker. you can play for hours at minimal cost if you do it right, get free drinks (don't forget to tip!!) and its a game where you are not playing directly against the house!

crap - only 9 months to my next trip......

Mandalay Bay, NYNY & Hotel 32 all have Jacuzzi's........Cosmopolitan (in certain rooms) have them next to a window overlooking the Bellagio fountains.

To Tommy....fair play booking The Quad!  I certainly wouldn't, but to each their own.......I know you'll have a great time in Vegas regardless.

We booked the first five days. If it's that bad we'll go for better after that, thinking about getting a suite for the last two nights  ;D

Heading over for 10 days with a few mates. Can anyone suggest any cheap hotels? The cheaper the better to offset my losses!

Obviously hugely looking forward to the casinos, is it true that you get free drinks even if you're betting on the penny slots?!

Also, any shows etc. you'd recommend?

Yes it is true. You can order what you like also.

Yeah we're hoping to get a couple of road trips in, I'll add San Diego to the list. Thinking 10 days will be a lot, we'll probably do 3/4 days in Vegas, then 2 days somehwere else and then spend our last 2 days in Vegas.

I did the full road trip mate- Started in LA up to San Fran, down to Vegas(via national parks), San Diego then back to LA.

If I was you I would do. Vegas, San Diego, San Fran

10 days in Vegas is far too long

I have no idea what happens when you win big, you do have to declare tax on whatever you win above $5000 in the vegas.

You pay tax on any win above $1199 and it is the whole amount.  The big casinos will take care of it for you whereas the smaller off strip casinos will deduct the money - this has happened to me more than once.

Wynn and/or Encore are both beautiful hotels but due to their location are still struglling for numbers in the casinis as a result they both lack serious atmosphere and is the reason where they have been practically giving away rooms for the last few years - I have had free nights (King suite) from both over the last three years.

I stay off strip at the Orleans for most of my trip these days but always have a couple of nights on the strip at one of the high end hotels.

If I had to choose right now and things do change quickly I would go for the Cosmopolitan.

reading a bit more id be amazed if the casinos dont have something in place because they are "witholding agents".
they have to by law withhold tax if you dont have the right documents.

Note. Federal tax withholding and/or information reporting must take place within the current tax year.
2(d). Gambling Income
Persons who are eligible to claim Exception 2(d) include:
Documentation you must submit if you are eligible to claim Exception 2(d):
Nonresident aliens visiting the United States who:
Claiming the benefits of a tax treatyhave gambling winnings, are claiming the benefits of a tax treaty for an exempt or reduced rate of federal tax withholding on that income, andwill be utilizing the services of a gaming official as an IRS ITIN Acceptance Agent.
Your W-7, which must be submitted through the services of an appropriate gaming official serving as an IRS ITIN Acceptance Agent to apply for an ITIN under Exception 2(d).

Note. If you do not secure the services of a gaming official, you may still file Form 1040NR at the end of the tax year with a Form W-7, attaching a copy of Form 1042-S displaying the amount of tax withheld. Your 1040NR return also should display the tax treaty article number and country under which you are claiming the treaty benefits.

I stayed at The Signature at the MGM Grand and it is all suite, with Jacuzzi in each room I think.

Wasn't crazily expensive when I booked and a very nice hotel but slightly off strip although it connects to MGM Grand, probably about a 10 min walk to get to the strip through MGM casino from there

Never fails to surprise me that people never mention the Tropicana. It's usually one of the cheaper hotels, the pool is one of the biggest in Vegas, the hotel itself has gotten a facelift much better than the Imperial Palace and it has a new outdoor pool nightclub which name escapes me at the moment?? Only problem is the casino isn't huge but it has a walkway bridge between the MGM & The Exalibur they're almost connected together. We thoroughly enjoyed it there anyway, it has a South Beach theme.

We went with Papillon for the Grand Canyon helicopter ride it came to around $300 which was the cheapest price we got out of everyone. One of the best things I've ever done and will probably ever do, I highly highly recommend it if you can manage it with your budget. If your into it try the skyjump from the top of the Stratosphere, a 108 floor controlled jump. I did it, crapped myself when I was up there but im so glad I did it. The whole thing is filmed via a wrist cam. Up there with the Grand Canyon for me. Can't wait to go back, maybe next year hopefully.

We're off next month to Vegas for 4 nights for our annual boys trip!  Stopping in one of the remodeled rooms at the MGM and cannot wait as I love the MGM when staying with the boys (The Wynn is far better when going with the wife).  As it's a lads trip it's purely about the gambling, drinking & partying - with possibly a round of golf thrown in.

Been a couple of years since we've been (did Macau instead in 2012 and had to cancel last years trip as one of us was in hospital) so it'll be good to see what's new in town.
In for a week, Out for a month....Duncan is a Tampon!

Looking at planning a trip which includes Vegas for Octoberish this year, looking to Fly into Vegas do around 4 nights there then drive to San Diefo then onto Cali & San Fran the fly home from there.

We were thinking of just booking flights and looking at checking into a hotel when we get to each place. Anyone had experience in doing that before?
