Just got a demo and I'm already fucking addicted. ;D

Bayern came in for Lovren, so sold him for 46m total and turned that around for Romanogli from Milan. Revamped my scouting and coaching set ups. Got in Vitor Orta from Middlesborough as my DoF. Signed Iturbe and Jetro Willems as back-ups to Moreno (who is excellent in the game so far). Mignolet has already made two cock-ups. I should have probably paid more attention to the training etc since most players seem to be lacking fitness and I think my dream of playing world-conquering attacking football was probably too early given preseason results. Having rolled back into something the players were more comfortable with, I've got my first league win against Sunderland. Anyway, just enjoying going through it at the moment to check out features etc.

Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. Simply, Dalglish represents everything Hodgson is not and, in fairness, everything Hodgson could or would not hope to be.

Enjoying it so far. Lovren wanted to leave (to China!!!), so I sold him for 32.5 mil to Spurs, brought in De Vrij for around 20, Donnarumma for 15 and Pulisic for around 25. Surprised they let go of Donnarumma for so little, seems like a great prospect at 17, now trying to send Karius on loan. After a crap pre-season, beat Utd at home 1-0 and Sunderland away 3-1. Still not playing all that well, but at least we're picking up the points...

Got a good game going with Charlton, just been promoted finishing 1st in League One.

This Charlton chairman isn't half a tit though, declines anything you ask for including parent clubs and is lowering the wage budget each month while finances are going deeper into the red.

Ademola Lookman is a gem of a player though.

Who says it's not realistic :p

As for me, can't seem to find a good save. Always start in league 1 or 2 but can't find a good team
Pretty happy with Arse taking it.

Started as Arsenal as I wanted an easy game to get a feel for it before I play a proper career.

£61m + Giroud for Dybala. Happy with that!

Got a nice game going with Leverkusen. Think this might be the best possession tactic I've ever created. Went away to Bayern and had 64% of the ball and completed 753 passes. Still lost 1-0.

Next home game I beat Frankfurt with 72% of the ball and completed 805 passes.

Hernandez is a machine and there's plenty of young talent to build. Sitting in 3rd at the moment, not quite as consistent as Dortmund and Bayern. On the other hand, just played the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 and smashed Atleti 3-0. Will be gutted if I go out from here. Have a sneaky feeling I might be able to do something in the Champions League..

I'm still playing 2016 when I get a spare minute.  Trying to make Bradford Park Avenue into a force.  So far I've been on a 10-game losing streak which turned into a 13-game undefeated streak.  I swear this game's suffering from some sort of personality disorder.  I hope 2017's better for that.

What are peoples thoughts on this so far then?

I've not got out of preseason yet due to lack of time to play.

Is it right that you can have more of an effect on games using the in game tactics. Eg choosing to exploit a flank is more noticeable etc..

Was struggling for one myself until using this last night - http://www.fmscout.com/a-gurus-onslaught-aggressive-possession-fm17-tactics.html

Beat Dortmund 4-0 and 3-1 within a few weeks after taking over a struggling Hertha Berlin side. ;D

i've been tinkering with liverpool since beta just to find something that i like, not completed a season yet but think i'm getting close to what i want

i sometimes swap the roles on the two wide players, usually it's coutinho on the left and mane on the right but ojo has done well for me playing on the left as w-su so i switch whoever's on the right to if-su, we've got some great options up front with most of them being capable of slotting in anywhere so i do change things slightly depending on who i put where and what their strongest roles are

still tweaking these but it's producing some great attacking football and plenty of possession at the moment, i switch crossing to low crosses if the opposition are dealing with high balls into the box, not using any player instructions apart from setting the goalkeeper to roll the ball out (still seems to ignore me a lot and hoofs the ball down field)

also under the opposition instructions tab on the tactics screen i've set closing down to always for every position then don't touch anything on the opposition instructions screen you get before a match, think this needs a bit of tweaking though as sometimes both cb's get attracted to the ball and leave a lot of space for someone running in, also been experimenting with tight marking on the opposition defenders & midfield and hard tackling on just the midfield & am positions

so far in my latest save it's working great, played 12 friendlies to build familiarity up and started the season with a 3-1 win at home to city and a 2-1 win away to chelsea, absolutely destroyed city and should have won by a bigger margin, the chelsea game was tough and could have gone either way but we had plenty of chances to kill it off at 2-1, it's been a bit like watching us in real life where we look capable of destroying anybody but also capable of giving the opposition a few decent chances as well

In a bit of a catch 22 at the minute.

Grinding out ugly wins with Arsenal playing 433 but I can't get Ozil in the team which seems a shame.

If I switch it to a 4231 to get Ozil in I score more but dont win as much and I dont control the games any more.

Also Dybala is awesome on this, 11 goals in his first 11 games. Pulling me through the matches kicking and screaming at the minute. (Bellerin deserves a mention as well, assists nearly every goal)

Any advice?

It usually takes me ages to create a good tactic on FM but I either created a decent one on my first attempt this time around or the game is just much easier than usual. Happy with my start to the season either way.

In that penalty win over Everton, Coleman scored an own goal to make it 1-1 in the 87th minute and then went on to miss the penalty in sudden death that got us the win.

Quick tip, play Can as Roaming Playmaker in the DM position, he is an absolute beast!
Also, I signed Dybala in January  and scored close to 30 goals in all comps, what a player he is.

I play him as that, but in the left centre mid position. With a ball winner next to his right, and a deep lying playmaker behind.

Just bought this and loaded it up the other day, couple of pre season friendlies in.

Who have you bought or sold? Any good Staff signings?

Spurs made an offer for Lovren for around £20m which I rejected. He got pissed, but then Bayern came in and made an offer, I stood firm and got around £35-40m for him (cant remember exactly).

other than that I haven't done any other dealings yet, will look at Dybala tho.

Origi is mental in this game. So far this season (18th Dec, 2018) he's scored 20 goals in 15 games in the league and 29 goals in 22 in total. He also got 9 assists as well.

Last season he scored 23 goals in 32 matches in the league and 30 goals in 45 matches in total and 8 assists.

61m + Giroud with Arsenal. 200k a week wages.

Just won 2-3 away at Juve in the first leg of the champions league last 16.

I was 2-0 down and then Dybala scored a hattrick!

It's moments like that, that make this game so special.

Injuries are brutal. Was on course for a title challenge but since December I've had all Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, Lallana, Sturridge, and Sakho injured, all of those at the same time except for Lallana. Just got Mane back before the others and of course he's not available because of the AFCON.

I generally don't like to make any first team signings during the first season so I've had to use a few of our youngsters throughout the season, most impressive so far has probably been Alexander-Arnold. His potential doesn't seem all that high according to my scouts but he's got 6 appearances for the first team so far (3 in the league) with an average rating of 7.12, will be happy to keep using him as a back up to Clyne rather than paying out for somebody else. Grujic has been very impressive and scored an absolute worldy in injury time to get me a point in one game, Stewart is decent, and Woodburn and Camacho have been blowing up the youth teams.

Also, on last years FM I always set my keeper to distribute to center backs/full backs.... Never trying that again on this version. Twice in about 5 games Karius rolled the ball out to one of the defenders (think the first time was Sakho and second was Clyne) and they played the most ridiculous passes back to him that were cut out and put in the back of the net.
