Saw a great piece of footage of Ween coming on stage at one of their recent gigs... Deaner walking on stage, then, to the cheers, stood infront of the mic, then both arms aloft like the guitar rock god he is ;D

Then this morning, I find out that he's recently released a 'solo' LP, by the Dean Wean Group, called 'The Deaner Album'. Released late last year. Meant to call the label today to ask a few things (not just 'is it really £35!?') but tomorrow I will (when the wife is out).

And it's on youtube. Which is nice. Cracking album... don't let the first song fool you ;) And if you're reading AlonsoAssassin... you'll enjoy Moistboyz too... start from Moistboyz 1 (Dean Ween's other band - very dark brown hardcore.)

 ;D

Ta, mate. Will check that out. Thanks!

Need to give The Deaner Album a bit more (awesome album title; very Ween).

They're very good looking.

La Cucaracha is my FUCKING go to album right now. Only thing that's bringing a smile to my face. That and Hodgson for Leicester which is frankly doing wonders.

It's a very underrated album. Woman and Man, My Own Bare Hands, Object and of course, the remarkable Your Party. That was my gateway album for them, will always have a soft spot for it.

It's a very underrated album.

It's definitely up there. Has to be brought in. Been on the Ween for days... (plus all the spin offs side projects. Bad terminology by me there. No spin-offs here...). No matter how often I listen to them, I'll always find a moment to laugh like a drain.

Your Party is almost genius. It's the last verse that nails it. It's just beautiful. ;D

The opener for Gene's real named solo LP... the first from Aaron Freeman in 'Free-Man'. A magical album. Really is very very good. The two were made in heaven.

I've been meaning to give that one a spin.

Just remembered I did a greatest hits DJ mix a while back. I'll load it up to SoundCloud later and post a link.

Well this sounds like a party.

Quote
Deaner Rock Vol. 2, is the sophomore album from The Dean Ween Group, to be released worldwide March 9, 2018 by Schnitzel Records. Dean Ween – aka The Deaner – recorded the album at his dedicated studio facility in Lambertville, NJ, across the river from his native New Hope, PA. Here’s how the Deaner describes the genesis of this new body of work:

“A lot has changed since I released my first ‘solo album’ a couple of years ago.

“Since 1984, I dedicated my life to recording in all of my free time. Later on, after living with Aaron for a few years, I moved into an apartment with my girlfriend (who is now my wife; Hi baby!) She would get up at 5:30 am to go to work teaching and I would record all day while she was gone. When she came home I would stop. When she went to sleep I’d go over to Aaron’s place at Brookridge Farms and record all night with him, or Guy Heller, or Billy Fowler.

“30 years later and I’ve found myself back at that same place, at a different address, with the best equipment money can buy. See, that’s the thing about being a musician (I dare not call myself an artist, although technically I guess I am). Anyway, success affords you better tools for your trade-money buys you time as well. There are no excuses when you have shit like Neve consoles and Neumann microphones, that shit is there to be used.

“For 4 years now I have been in my studio recording all day and all night, every day and every night when I’m not on tour. A song-a-day sounds far-fetched I know… we usually average at least 2 per day. Sorting through all of this has become a task unto itself, I still haven’t caught up or begun to catalog everything I’ve done since 1984 so there is a log jam in the filing and archiving process.

“This album is a snapshot of the fall of 2016–there have been a lot of tunes recorded before then and even more since then, but this is my second official solo album. These were written for this sole purpose and recorded with the entire lineup: the best band in the world, Ween — Claude Coleman Jr., Dave Dreiwitz, and Glenn McClelland, also the other best band in the world, the lineup of the DWG — Mike Dillon, Bill Fowler, Ray Kubian, Scott Rednor, and the other 50 members and usual suspects.

“I’m pretty proud of this one; it represents the first time that I was able to take what we do onstage and put it on a record. 2017 is a strange time to be a musician, live music is really your main outlet for making a living. I never thought at this stage of my career that I would be putting in this much time on the road and in the studio, but I am, and I’m enjoying it more than I ever have. The only difference now is that my wife tells people that I “work nights” and even with all of that time I put in recording while she was at work or asleep, it’s nothing compared to the amount of time I spend now, and the music is way better for it.

“Take a peak into a couple of months of that groove with this album, Deaner Rock 2. Every little thing I’ve ever learned is somewhere on here, somewhere. Maybe you can find a little piece of it that means as much to you as it does to me. There are many more albums like this one sitting on magnetic recording tape at my studio, but this is a glimpse of a couple months of writing and demo-ing, and about 2 weeks of tracking with the band.”

Listened to it today. Didn't enjoy this as much as their 1st, which I loved straightaway. Maybe 'Fingerbangin' put me off. Just wasn't really digging the bit where they all sniff, haha. Apparantly live, everyone in the audience puts their fingers under their noses. Yeah, so ;D

Did quite like Pussy On My Pillow tho. Especially the line where he asks her to put his finger in his ass. Laughed hard there ;D

Requires another visit tho.

As the weather grows colder down here in 'Strayla, I've had this on heavy rotation.

It's magical. One of my favourite Ween/Ween related albums. The whole thing from start to finish is Gene on top top form. Love it. Best heard beginning to end in its original format and not interspersed with live versions etc (did that for fun).

Your Shit Creek Boys link didn't work... is it a live performance? Hope you're doing well down there :wave

See also, a great Ween & Boredoms collaboration... pretty daft.

Ok, I’m halfway through the second Vegas show. Fuck me, what a band.

They look like they’re having so much fun up there.

If all they do from now on is play live,  I’m very good with that.

Just as long as I can see them soon!

God yes. Let's make sure we go together when they do. Hearing that they struggle logistically coming over here for some reason, but it may well be a last time when they do.

Have been back on this all week. I wake up in the morning and I hum it, I have my fist in the air when I think of the end. It's just beautiful.

Got friends out last night watching Liam Gallagher at Knebworth yada yada... but THIS is a stadium track rhat deserves 200,000 lighters held aloft.

This cropped up recommended. There's no band I need to see live more than Ween. Do I want to see Velvet Underground in 1969 or The Fall in 1981 or Ween in 2022? I want WEEN!
