Not bad. We need to take full advantage of that start though. December/January shows exactly why we need to being boosting squad numbers

Arsenal v City?

As far as I can tell, it was just something spreading through the tabloids a few months ago. Even the Daily Fail says that it's supposedly been around for years yet that's easily disproven.

Still no south coast summer trips, shows it's fixed - mancs are there in august.

Hadn't seen that. That's going to be really tough. Hopefully they both get moved days.

Its good to find out what dates the games are on but I struggle with the concept of hard fixtures lists and easy ones.  We play the same 19 teams, home and away with 2 or more days in between each match.  What real difference does the order of those matches make?

If you are a 18 year old who has followed the club since 2007 (when you were 6 or 7) then you'll have seen us win 1 trophy in your time following the club. That's a pretty damning statistic. Think about how many trophies you had seen us win by the time you were 18.

Even for someone like me who has seen us win everything we have waited too long for another trophy. That's not a criticism but we do need to get over the line at some point. Whilst it's heart breaking we've come so close to winning so much recently, the good thing is that we are continually putting ourselves in the position to win trophies. We aren't far away. Getting a League Cup or an FA Cup would mean so much in isolation but also potential for what confidence it could bring the club and players. We shouldn't priotise these trophies but we should still be looking to put out side that can progress in the early rounds.
Yeah, winning something would be lovely. I'm not one to say "it's not been good enough" but really, our lack of trophies over the last decade has...well, it's not been very good, even for someone who was very young when we last won the league and didn't live through the glory years. At least growing up and through the Rafa years we seemed to win a cup every so often, although actually I vaguely remember the 90s being pretty shit too, so in some ways I'm of an age to remember trophyless years as being the norm. It would be great to get back into the swing of winning things though. As you say, it could be very beneficial for the players' confidence. Agree completely that I'd like to see us take the cups semi-seriously this year.

With regards to the league fixtures, no real complaints. Would be nice to get three wins from all three first fixtures, as there are a couple of tricky ones in September. Run in looks alright.

Been looking for League Cup dates, but can’t seem to find them anywhere.  Perhaps not released yet.  But surprising, as in previous years havent had any problem drawing up full list once prem fixtures announced.

And we beat Wolves on the last day of the season in 1947 to win the league too.  It's on!

Forgot about that one. Won 2-1 then 3-1 in 1976.

Anyone go to both games? 😜   :lmao

It does make a big difference if you travel to all the games.  So I’m pleased to see we’ve drawn city on 1 Jan and Brighton on 12 Jan.  I probably won’t have any problem with travel for those, but if it were Brighton on 1 Jan then that would be a right sod, given difficulty of travelling such a long distance on a public holiday.  Okay, fixtures may change due to TV etc.  But knowing dates helps in knowing travel challenges you’re up against.

It does, but not massively. You can have an easy start and easy finish, but you still need to beat whoever you're playing.

Of course it matters.

I agree it matters when you play each team.

Part of that though can't be seen in the fixtures at this stage. For example, playing Palace at the start of last season ended up being a good time to play them. At the end of the season it was less favourable. You can't see these fluctuations in form of the bottom 14 teams by looking at the fixture list now.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

We'll play 13 CL games, I'm sure we wont be away before all of them. Almost literally impossible.

Last season we played our Champions League group games on the same nights are Spurs. Does anyone know if that's likely to be the case again? I'm trying to work out if its possible that Spurs away fixture will be moved to Sunday or stay on Saturday due to Champions League fixtures the following midweek.

CL draw for the group stage is August 30th.

Obviously there are the 4 Premier League sides in that draw. They'll split it to 2 of the PL sides per match day.

You'll have to wait until then. Don't count on us being on the same match day as Spurs.

I checked United's fixtures -

A before the first group stage match, H after
A before the second group stage match, H after
A before the third group stage match, H after
A before the fourth group stage match, H after
H before the fifth group stage match, A after
H before the sixth group stage match, A after

Obviously just one team, but it seems that they are trying to give the Champions League similar home/away fixtures during the group stage.

What was it for the TV games opening weekend last season, one Friday and then 2 Sat and 2 Sun?

If same again, I would guess below would definitely be on tv;
Arsenal v Manchester City (biggest game)
Manchester United v Leicester City (Utd)
Newcastle United v Tottenham Hotspur (Big game)
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Everton (Newly promoted team)

Fulham v Palace is a possibility as another new team and a London derby. But us v West Ham (Pellegrini back in the league) is prob the best bet

I'm not counting on it, but sometimes you can work these things out by some of the stipulations, such as us not playing on the same night as united in the CL. I was just wondering if anyone had figured out a way of knowing if us and Spurs would play on different or same nights in the CL.

I can’t decide if that’s a good thing or not.  Not always easy playing your first game in your new home, but then given it’s us it’ll be even more hyped and they’ll be right up for it.

Got to be doing better against the top 6 - December is difficult but got all the big teams at home. Start and end should be strong on paper so it's about using the squad well in that winter period.

There will be 8 Champions League groups. Typically...

A, B, C, D  will have one match day.

E, F, G, H will have the other match day.

Which group will City, United, Spurs , and Liverpool be drawn into..there's your answer.
