Joe, the fat controller, in the Echo today, moaning about the cost of the potholes in the city.

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/liverpools-pot-hole-crisis-council-12756218

Here's an idea Joe.   Try finding the money for the work on the potholes, instead of your pet project trying to get the Commonwealth Games, stadium for Everton.

He's got fucking sink holes to worry about now!  ;D

« Reply #81 on: August 1, 2017, 04:02:38 pm »
EDIT; False alarm, wasn't my friend. RIP to whoever it was who lost their life.

A PERSON has died after being struck by a train at Rainhill station this morning, British Transport Police has confirmed.

The transport police were called to the rail station following reports at 6.25am today (Tuesday).

Officers attended alongside paramedics, who confirmed the person was dead at the scene.

Officers are working to identify the person and inform their family.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.

I can only think you can contact the Transport Police directly and state you're a friend and see if the names match up. They will have policies about not releasing names to the media, but identifying yourself as friend or family gets past that. Is your friend not contactable?

Edit: happy it wasn't your pal, but sad it was someone at all :( Hope your friend gets the help they need, tricky trying to help someone determined to harm themselves. Best of luck

Phone the police and tell them you are worried about a friend (insert name) commiting suicide and you think it might be the one that happened today.

Yeah probably , mentioned this in conversation yesterday and I didn't realise there's a direct train from Manchester airport to lime street , I always thought you'd have to change at piccadily but no theres a direct one , yet there isn't a station at our airport

Its so well served, like you say direct train to Lime Street and also trains and trams into Piccadilly. I've friends who live in Southampton, his daughter lives on the Wirral, they fly into Manc, then train it to town and then onto the Wirral Line.

You would think there'd be a line from Liverpool into town.

Stolen BMW went through the front window of the Welcome Chippy on Priory Rd in Anfield today and totally bombed the place out.Boss chippy that.

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/anfield-chippy-welcome-stolen-car-13502790

This was the scene inside a north Liverpool chippy devastated by the impact of a stolen car.

Police said that officers had tried to pull over the stolen BMW on Great Homer Street but it failed to stop. The car then smashed into the New Welcome chippy on Priory Road in Anfield . Police said three men inside the car ran off in the direction of Holbrook Street.

The smash, which destroyed the popular chippy, is said to have happened between 2.30am and 3am.

This morning engineers at the scene told the ECHO the BMW had caused structural damage to the building, which was now unsafe. It is thought the building might have to be demolished.

Police said the family living in the flat above the chippy at the time were not hurt and have been moved temporarily rehoused.

A section of Priory Road was closed this morning as engineers attempted to make the building safe.

Locals described hearing a loud smash during the early hours of the morning.

Local man Jon Owens said: “I just can’t believe what has happened. I had a sausage supper from there on Friday night. It was a very popular family-run business.”

Another man said: “That was the best chippy in Liverpool.”

Resident Arthur Newel said: “The chippy was famous all over Liverpool. It was always packed and if you forgot to order you had to wait half an hour for your food. I loved their three meal combos.”

Don't think you can really bang the Commonwealth bid in the same argument about potholes in the way it has in here.

The Commonwealth Games would be amazing for this city and the investments, actually, sort out infrastructure problems that otherwise won't get done for a very  long time. A new stadium would also be a huge positive no doubt about it.

Hope we get them

There was a march down Strand St last weekend (ish) towards the Kings Dock area. Loads of people in yellow, with skull masks and pulling an ice cream van.

I'm fairly sure I wasn't that drunk and that's what I saw - anyone know what that was all about?

Liverpool Lime Street station closure
« Reply #102 on: September 10, 2017, 04:33:18 pm »
Remember guys and gals - Liverpool Lime Street is closing for platform remodelling and concourse improvements from September 30 for 23 days.

For nine of those days it will be completely closed.  I haven't go specific dates, but you can probably pull them from Merseyrail or Network Rail.

If you're planning major journeys to the likes of London or Manchester Airport be mindful of potential delays.  You'll probably be travelling from the likes of Liverpool South Parkway.

2018 is going to be a cracker

in 2018 the city is holding a year-long programme of cultural, musical and sporting events to mark the decade and the city’s transformation since – and to look to the future. In February, China’s Terracotta warriors will go on show at the World Museum – the first time they’ve been exhibited in the UK outside of London for 30 years (9 Feb-28 Oct). China Dream, a nine-month festival focusing on Chinese contemporary art and culture also begins that month. Other highlights include a tall ship regatta in May, the finale of the Clipper Round the World yacht race in June; and celebrations for Tate Liverpool’s 30th birthday, where the exhibition Life in Motion: Egon Schiele/Francesca Woodman will mark the centenary of Schiele’s death and compare his work to American photographer Woodman’s. It’s expected to be a blockbuster … but art lovers will find plenty more during the Liverpool Biennial (14 July-28 Oct), with cutting-edge art on show in galleries, museums and public spaces around the city.
