Might use some of the city centre places for after hours stuff but otherwise a radical all up in one place move - gonna be last weekend of May too

Sucks. To me the beauty of SC was the centre location and all the small venues.

Plus having somewhere like the Cathedral as a venue was boss. Bad news this.

Be better if they just booked better bands, some right shockers in places last year.

Where did the Trafalgar Dock story come from ? Will be a serious error of judgement if they do .

Obviously I haven't seen the plans but my initial thoughts are it's a terrible idea. Part of the fun of it is popping somewhere for a bevvy, nipping into a venue, and so on. If they move it to the middle of nowhere that all goes out the window.

See what the plans are like though I guess.

not sure about that change, as people have said part of the fun was being able to still visit your favorite pubs/restaurants in between seeing bands.

have already got an early bird ticket so I'll be interested to see what they announce.

Might not bother coming over for it if they move it out the centre of town. Love the variety of venues the last few years and being able to just go for a pint of decent beer somewhere quiet occasionally and escape the madness.

New move to Bramley Moore Dock ( Vauxhall ) confirmed .

This article is from the Echo website :

Liverpool Sound City is to move from the city centre to a new site on the waterfront.

The music festival and conference will take place at Bramley Moore Dock, in Vauxhall, between May 21 and 24.

It will see the redevelopment of the dock, built in 1848, using existing industrial architecture and warehousing on the docks as venues, alongside pop-ups, big tops and tents with an outdoor main stage.

Sound City CEO Dave Pichilingi said: “Our goal year-on-year is to evolve, grow, challenge, inspire, surprise and delight. We have never been one to rest on our laurels.

“We often get compared to South by South-West, which is, of course, a great compliment but our aim is to become the best event in Europe. This seismic change moves us towards that goal.

“The Bramley Moore Dock site is quite literally incredible, at once a blank canvas but at the same time a powerfully evocative backdrop of the real Liverpool, its industrial heritage and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to breathe new life into the sleeping heart of this city.

“Ultimately, we have outgrown our old home. It will be sad to part with the people and venues we have worked with over the past years but we don’t want a situation where people have to queue to watch acts or, worse still, not get to see them at all.

“We chose the new site to ensure everyone who comes gets the chance to see and engage with everything.”

Early bird tickets are now on sale.

Head of marketing and sales, Alex Simmonds, said: “Sound City 2015 is going to be bigger and better. An awesome new site and lots more budget going into acts and audience experience. Our ticket prices are remaining the same, though. We might well be achieving the next level in the Sound City journey but we are most definitely not selling out.”

As well as a change of venue, festival organisers have also announced Liverpool Sound City’s first headliner for 2015, Belle and Sebastian.

The Glaswegian favourites will play on the waterfront open- air stage backed by a full orchestra.

Stuart Murdoch, of Belle and Sebastian, said: “We’re looking forward to headlining Liver- pool Sound City on May 24. This is the last date of our tour and we can’t wait to play at the Liverpool Docklands, it’s such an iconic location.”

With more high-profile head-liners to announce in the com- ing months, Liverpool Sound City is also keeping its focus on new and emerging Mersey artists.

The festival has previously provided a springboard for the careers of many now revered acts from Jake Bugg to Bastille to Royal Blood and aims to bring in artists and bands from across the globe. It is hoped the new venue will allow for more creative staging, with the possibility of floating platforms.

CEO Dave Pichilingi added: “The possibilities with Bramley Moore Dock are literally mind blowing. The ways in which we can harness the existing structures and how we use the lighting to pick out amazing industrial buildings are end- less. Then there is the water, not just the dock but the Mer-
sey itself.

“We have some big ideas, very big ideas, about how we’ll use the river and waterways, all to be revealed. Rest assured, though, it’s going to make Sound City one of the most unique and awe-inspiring festival sites in the UK, if not the world.”

Possibly - it's certainly got potential but not the same convenience . Just hope the organisers don't charge stupid prices for the ale and food with it now being an enclosed event .

That's the key.  Sound City was always fantastic because if you wanted food, or a decent pint, or simply a break from the bands, then you could easily do so in one of the country's best city centres for a night out.  It was essentially a pub crawl with bands thrown in.

They will have to do a brilliant job on the space, the bars, the food, and crucially the transport to and from the centre to not lose that feel.  After the problems with access in Wolstenholme Sq last year I can see why they have looked for a change though

Yeah, this is how I feel as well in a nutshell. As it stands now I would probably still go to Sound City if there was a specific band I wanted to see (and to be fair Belle and Sebastian would probably fit that bill next year), and just treat it as a normal gig. If there wasn't anyone I was specifically bothered about though then I wouldn't get a wristband like I'd be happy to have one previously and just go and see a few bands at random. Unless they really nail the bars and food I wouldn't want to spend a whole day/night there.

Will give this a go this year and hope they don't take the piss / fuck it up.

First impressions ?

Site is good ,  The bars are well managed with almost no queuing , which was good . There are a good mix of stages although some appear very close together , so not sure if there'll be a problem on that score. The crowd was pretty mixed with a good atmosphere and no signs of any trouble. The gigs I attended were spot on , although the main stage can lose some of it's sound if you are far back and it gets picked up by the wind .Obviously a few teething problems which you can give a bit of slack over for being the first time at the new location ,but gripes are :

- Schedule line up times . There isn't one unless you want to pay £ 5.00 for a key ring with schedules on . It's now on clashfinder , but a festival without a proper listing - fuck off !
- Cost of bars and food - Always suspected a hefty price hike and there was - £ 4.50 pint , food from £ 4.00 for noodles to £ 7.00 for pie and mash .
- Toilets - inadequate for the numbers attending , but this seems to be a trait of British festivals . The Europeans know how to organise it.

If you've not been yet , dress up for it . Got pretty chilly as the night went on .

I'll wait to see how the rest of the weekend goes before deciding whether to attend again next year .

Thought the layout was alright, think they'd be better off moving the cavern and the kraken stages further right instead of the fairground which was pretty much deserted when I went down there.

Not too bothered by the food prices as I thought it was a decent selection and not just burgers and chips. Had a very nice chicken tikka wrap. They could do with a second real ale bar by the main stage.

Toilets were woefully inadequate, could be easily solved by having urinals for men set up as well, would speed things up so much and stop the portaloos queue from building up so much.

For their first year on the new site I'm really impressed and hope the festival can continue to grow.

The Flaming Lips were fucking boss last night, part gig, part art installation, part religious experience.

I was pretty close to the front and I felt fine in the crowd and there were no problems at all afterwards walking from the main stage and out of the festival site which I thought may have been a worry earlier in the day.

Should be a great day today as well.

Sorry, can't resist.

It's not a strong enough lineup for me to consider it this year, I probably won't go. Just not my taste and I'm not convinced by the location either.

Absolute shite. Still at least Dave Pichilingi is hoovering up all the money coming into the city for music though eh. That's the important thing. As the festival goes from weakness to weakness, at least he's getting his dollar.

Absolutely nothing that interests me this year. Disappointed but rather glad I'm not having to try and get to and from the site, although I've noticed this years curfew (11pm) actually gives enough time to get a train home from Sandhills.

Think this'll be my last visit this year . Wasn't going to bother , but ended up deciding on just the Saturday .

Expensive tickets for waht it is , rip off expensive VIP tickets ( to get access to decent facilities that you should get anyway ) , expensive food and drink prices ( on a par with other festivals though ) , Headline acts who had their heyday a long time ago.

Ah well , weather's looking good so will make the most of it .

Before you criticise a man, walk a mile in his shoes. Then, when you do criticise him, you're a mile away and you have his shoes.
