Read that after I went! Thought Best Coast were pretty decent. Got Wooden Shjips next week which I'm looking forward to :-) Then Vic Godard at the weekend!

Shjips for me too next week.  And if I can motivate myself to keep doing the gig of the week thing then they will be my pick

Going to see The La's on Friday night.

Gonna get to that myself, too - looking forward to it.

Was planning on getting to the Bunnymen gig on the 17th but I quite wanted to head south and see Manic Street Preachers in London...same date.  Feck.

*Edit - just found that they're playing in Liverpool at the end of this month, too.  How's the Philarmonic usually set up for bands - is it all seated?

Lovely building and a great venue for the orchestra, not my favourite venue for rock gigs though

Do they still not like you getting out of your seat?

Seats are too comfy, you end up sitting back and either stroking your chin or falling asleep depending on the act.

They were fantastic. Gig of the year so far without a doubt

I enjoyed Vic Godard at Williamson Tunnels last weekend as well. Nice place for a gig as well (if a bit out of the way)

They were very good - Mac's voice is not quite what it was at their peak, but they were still great. A first half of 'greatest hits' and then Ocean Rain and a few more classics after the break. They did tons of favourites like The Cutter, Stars Are Stars, Do It Clean, Rescue, Never Stop, Nothing Ever Lasts Forever and Lips Like Sugar. We were stuck up in the far top corner of the Phil but had a great time despite the roasting heat!

£4.40, bloody hell! For Tuborg????

Just come back from David Crosby & Graham Nash at the Phil - not sure I've ever been surrounded by an older crowd at a gig than that - C&N can both sing pretty well still, but unfortunately all their new songs (i.e. since about 1975...) are rather trite and/or bland. And inexcusably we had a bass solo from a man in a beret. Still, it was ok (not the bass solo!)

I saw Dave Swarbrick & Martin Carthy at the Phil last week and I would imagine the audience there was of a similar age - having said that, I'm 55 myself, so I can't talk. Swarb & Carthy were great, as you'd expect, and it's good to see Swarb still going, especially after having his obituary published a few years ago  ...
http://www.alexlyons.co.uk/atrax/swarb_archive/obituary_files/telegraph_obituary.htm Supporting them were Lau, who are absolutely tremendous. Second time I've seen them and I'd recommend them to anyone.

Skipping that one but might make She Keeps Bees at the Shipping Forecast tonight.  Other than that it's Lanterns on the Lake next Weds next up for me.  Upstairs at Leaf looks like being a decent new venue on the Liverpool scene.  Other Lives were superb there on Sat night.

Seen a girl I know do a bit of DJ'ing / XX style gig up there a few months back, was a decent room and I imagine it'd be a good speck for some proper live music.

Nice chilled little bar Leaf.

Summer Camp at Mojo last night - very good stuff. Fine twee-influenced indie pop sounds. A mixed bag of supports including the second female a cappella band I have seen in the past 6 months, which seems a worrying trend. This lot (Barbieshop) were a lot better than the previous wannabe girl band though (Angels In White). I enjoyed Yes Lord Sugar (great name!) playing their first ever gig and also Stealing Sheep. Dog Is Dead were inoffensive but dull.

Billy Bragg next week!

Liverpool Music Week Closing Party shindig this evening at CUC.  Lots of bands. Lots of stages.  Ghostpoet, Phantom Band, Outfit, Beth Jeans Houghton, D/R/U/G/S and many many more.

Then Americana 10 tomorrow at the same venue.  Mark Eitzel and Richmond Fontaine the stand outs.
