So to kick us off, I'm going to see The Soundcarriers, By The Sea and Eva Petersen at the Williamson Tunnels this Sat.  Don't know much about it to be honest, Soundcarriers are from Nottingham and are probably best described as a sixties acoustic stereolab (perhaps a monolab ;) ).  Thing is though it's being put on by the good guys at Harvest Sun and they've got a pretty impeccable track record of gigs at the moment so I'm taking it mainly on trust.

The tunnels is one of your more interesting venues too.

Latest from the promoters...

Subject: 1 day to The Williamson Tunnels Psychedelic Underground
Yes folks, 1 more sleep until The Tunnel of Love end of Summer party.

We welcome the melodic bass driven grooves of The Soundcarriers, all the way from sunny Nottingham via some far off solar system.

We also see the return of the excellent By The Sea, who've been away recording in The Scandinavian Church, of all places. Plus our favourite song-stress, Eva Petersen's voice will literally be melting the tunnel.

All ably and abetted by DJ Kool Aid Bob (Probe Records) playing the finest psychedelia from the shops shelves.

Tickets £8 still available with Probe and ticketline or you can pay on the door.

Doors, 7.30.

We'll hopefully see you there,

Harvest Sun Promotions.

The Sound Carriers were great last night, trippy sixties grooves.

And at the risk of this becoming a one man blog...  next gig on the agenda for me is Smoke Fairies at the Kazimier.  Now that should be a belter.

I though the Smoke Fairies were magnificent last night - harmonies to die for.

The Kazimier is definitely my favourite venue for gigs in Liverpool at the moment.  It's a louche gothic charm, the sound is good and you can actually see the bands, which after a few years watching gigs in the Korova basement is a definite bonus.

Local lads Misery Guts were a disappointment though.  They can play alright, but no songs to live up to the craft and they are just trying to be Mumford and Sons rather too much for my liking.

Anyway next up it's Everything Everything at the Academy...

Has anyone seen the band '6ix Toys'? My brother saw them at the L'pool Phil on saturday with the Scaffold (who were terrible apparently). OMD did 4 songs as well. Anyway, he said 6ix Toys were v.good. Can't find any upcoming dates, but they've played a lot over the last few years, so just wondered if anyone else had seem em.

Found this cover of a Prodigy track on youtube. I reckon they sound the biz.

Mixed bag from Everything Everything at the Academy.  The set pretty much echoed the album in being something of a curate's egg.  When they keep it fast and choppy in a post punk funk Gang of Four style then they are magnificently inventive and they have four or five brilliant songs in that vein. Unfortunately they also have four or five slower more traditional songs which simply don't work, the singer's voice isn't strong enough for a start.

Anyway next up is probably going to be local lads The Sand Band on the 16th.  Check 'em out.

The Sand Band were really great, far better than I expected if I am honest.  If you like Sparklehorse and that quiet Americana kinda vibe then you'll love them.  New album out on Deltasonic I believe.

Anyway, tonight it's back to the Kazimier to see Warpaint, who narrowly won a tug of war with Clinic for my attentions this evening.

Just listened to a bit of The Sand Band, and was pleasently surprised, are they any good live?

They were good yeah.  I really enjoyed them, better than the stuff they have recorded I think.

Warpaint were great last night too.

OMD at the Echo Arena tonight.

Good mix of new and old songs, which seemed to go down well with everyone there.

Bit of banter from Andy McCluskey who looked, and danced, like he was well in the mood (well he was dosed up on Cortisone and other 'painkillers' after fucking up his knee a few days ago). Still did great for a bloke nearing 50.

All round a great show, especially for those who love the earlier stuff.

The Helsinki support act was ok as well.
Yanks, but new Yanks.  Cautiously optimistic.

Saw The Drums on Tuesday, not impressed, a few good tunes but yer can't hide a voice that thin behind a lot of tinny reverb and wankerish sub-Mozzer posing for a full set.

Micah P Hinson at the Static Gallery this Friday, now that should be a belter

Amsterdam are due to play at the Academy on March the 11th  They will also include stuff from their Pele days. £11.00 on the night, I think I heard. Also at the Academy the Icicle Works on the 30th April. Two concerts to look forward too, I think.
