Pubs to watch the match in Liverpool
« on: August 31, 2010, 08:50:08 pm »
Am over in Liverpool the weekend after next and of course we would have to be playing away in Birmingham  :no :no What would be a good pub to watch the match in the city centre? Any time Ive been over Ive been at a game so have never watched the match in pub before. Anyone got a suggestion? No blue oyster bars please   :lickin

Too many to cover.

Here's a couple.

The First National, James St.

The Croc, The baby crock, Harrington St.

The Rosco arms.

The fly in the loaf , Hardman st.

To be fair, it will be on in loads of gaffs. You won't have trouble finding it on somewhere.

Yeah I've never seen us lose there actually :D
Not the biggest mind you, and it's usually packed whenever we're playin. The Cross Keys just off Old Hall Street is always busy on a matchday too.

Ma Boyles is great. Its 2 quid a pint when the game is on and if its busy they lay on free food at half time.

Not too far away for me either!

I'm new to Liverpool, got here last week from Bristol (i'm studying at JMU). No tv licence in the flat and all my flatmates are off to O'Neills because of this gaelic thing tomorrow, so firstly does anyone know if they're likely to have the football on in there too and if anyones watched us there has it been any good? If not then i'm going to have to find a pub and go in alone, i'm on Greek Street so at least I don't seem to be far away from some of the pubs mentioned in this thread.

Would be very surprised if O'Neills didn't have the game on, never watched any of ours in there but they usually have the live Sky games on when i've been in in the past.

Why, over hyped place to watch the match. Many far better places all over town.

To be honest, I would just avoid town altogether, but that's not a bad place if you insisted on town. Better than O'Neills anyway.

it depends on what you're after - somewhere with an atmosphere?  then the first national (anytime ive ever watched the game in there ) has had a decent atmosphere, but if not you just want somewhere to chill and want a seat to watch the game then there are loads of pubs showing.
Sir, the cash monies?

I could think of about half a dozen pubs in town far better to watch the match in.

The Liverpool, fucking hell been there, awful pub.

He'll mean the Cafe Sports Express near The Hilton, rather than the main gaff on Stanley Street.

Never done it before as normally in the ground, but does any of the pubs around Anfield screen the 3pm games?  Not going to the match on sunday but will go for the march.  Don't fancy a trek back into town straight away.

Cheers.

Sure there's more like but that's where I've watched it in the boozer in the past

We ended up watching the Blackpool match in the Hanover, they tend to have the matches on that aren't on the official channels like Sky and ESPN. I'd never been in there just to watch a match before now, and it was alright, decent enough atmosphere and plenty of tellys dotted round. Bonus is it's a very short stagger over to the Buffet Star

Watched the derby in the flute because of reccomendations in this thread, obviously result aside it was enjoyable. Good mix of people in there, singing only really started at the end but was good when it got going, cheap enough and friendly too. Went again last night to watch the Inter game but they were showing United  ???

Still I think that'll be where i'll be going from now on, hopefully i'll see some better results though (fat chance)  :wave

I'm 99% certain Carra's bar wont. Not even sure Aldos is still open, a mate said it had shut.

First National (james st) will more often than not show it.

The Croc (just off castle st) too.

The Vernon arms on Dale st too.
