Sorry but it is Central, I remember it well.
Here's more..

And here's one from 79 when it was being demolished...you can make out the back of Lewis's.

Here's
google street map from Fairclough street, looking up at the view of Lewis's you can see in the 79 photo above.

It clearly shows the two distinctive decorative brickwork faces towards that end of the building that you can also see from the 79 photo.

Don't know if you've ever had a gander in here...http://www.subbrit.org.uk/

There are some places of interest on Merseyside such as http://www.subbrit.org.uk/sb-sites/sites/l/liverpool_edge_hill_cutting/index3.shtml

There are also some great urban explorer nutter sites around such as my favourite.. http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/index.php

It's just brilliant what some of these guys get up to and record such as http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=48569 , http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=49995http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=49487 , http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=48781 and http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=48355

For anyone else looking at this, please don't go trying this stuff on your own. Many of these lads are experienced climbers.

So there I was last week, going through a box in the loft and came across a whole load of photo's I'd taken years ago.

None of this modern malarky. Good old fashioned seluloid negatives and photo paper, processed by Fast Film, and Max Spielman etc.

I have about three dozen taken of the old standing Spion Kop, taken in 1987.

I cobbled a load of photo's together for a photo mosaic of the outside of the kop, for you fine individuals to enjoy.

I've scanned a load of them, but the file size is still too large to be accepted by rawk.

Anyone with a bit of techno knowledge know how I can get them on here, and I'll try and post them all, for your enjoyment.

Richie they're great and you need to get them up somehow.

Try reducing the quality on your scanner to 'low', that will knock the size down, but doesn't necessarily mean a serious blow to the quality. I'm not sure it will work, but it's the sum total of my tech knowledge.

There are some good books available from www.merseyshop.com that have excellent old pics of Liverpool.

Liverpool 50s - http://www.merseyshop.com/products/details/localinterestbooks/liverpool_fifties/
Liverpool 60s - http://www.merseyshop.com/products/details/localinterestbooks/liverpool_sixties/
Liverpool 70s - http://www.merseyshop.com/products/details/localinterestbooks/liverpool_seventies/
Liverpool 80s - http://www.merseyshop.com/products/details/localinterestbooks/liverpool_eighties/

They are on sale and incredibly inexpensive and have some good memories in them  I picked up the 50s and 60s books when I was over last.  The books are also available at most of the Liverpool museums and the Information Centres.  I picked mine up at the Conservation Centre.

That's pretty much how my first memories of the place are. Used to love waiting in the queue, even if the bizzies on horseback were wankers.

I didn't realise how much I missed the old place till I looked at them.

Any date for that photo?
I mentioned in the old aurses thread a while back remembering seeing a big circus parade sometime back in the early 60's coming up from town direction along Breck Road and past Georgesons before veering left down Priory. I wonder was this it,  the almost mythical 'circus' train that had bought them to Lime Street.

There was no date on it mate, sorry.

But with that 'keep left' sign there it surely has to be late 50's or 60's.
Can't tell if it's a lecky one or a gas one like this one from 1957...

That's a great little photo I've not seen before. Don't have any recollection of those being gas operated, though vaguely remember some Gas lights when they were still in operation somewhere by the Cathedral or Upper Parliament street area.
Don't the verges look a bit long? The council guys only used to come along to cut the grass round our way only every 4 weeks or so in the summer, with 'Allen Scythes', like great big beard trimmers on a pair of wheels, not the sit on gang mowers they have these days. It used to take them forever to do them, especially with loads of kids following them and asking them questions, and the verges would look like a field after harvesting for a while. It also looks like that's a street light suspended from the wires in the background.

Found this on Betrand Mills Circus Train

3 pages of similar 1895 Liverpool life stuff (enter 339.1 in top line) hit the blue number 1, then 'next record' for each subsequent pic.

http://archive.liverpool.gov.uk/dserve.exe?dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Catalog&dsqCmd=Search.tcl

I found it better to right click and save and then re-open with Irfanview or similar in order to resize to a better fit
