You think the market is there for direct trains between Liverpool and say....Aberdeen?
but, Aberdeen is a Baltic state, surely?.  :P

Nope, but I think he has a point that there probably is a market for _a_ direct train from Liverpool to The Lakes, Carlisle, Glasgow or Edinburgh (do the trains still divide at Carstairs?).

No. I just think there should be a direct link to Scotland (i.e Glasgow and Edinburgh). This would enable people to make a one stop journey to virtually every other major town in Scotland (Aberdeen, Dundee, Stirling, Inverness etc).

Been on the train loads of times with Lucas :wave

So you will be aware that you cant cross the line with a buggy as it is steps under the line.  Great disabled access.

Just walk round to the other entrance. Or go to Manchester :P
At the end of the day Roby isn't a main station and is unlikely to have money spent on it to give disabled access. I asked the ticket fella about it once, he said that if you come through the main entrance (:lmao) where the ticket window is and ask for assistance he would gladly help.

There are plenty of stations around the country that are just as bad if not worse. If I remember correctly Hornchurch station is Essex has one entrance and a steeper flight of stairs. It was aked of them if anything can be done to improce facilities. The answer was, not enough money passes through that station to make any improvement worthwhile. I think it would be the same for Roby.

Lime St on the otherhand, well that could do with getting better access at it's main entrance if they are going to continue to make any improvements there.

Clearly the new laws governing disabled access to public buildings that came into effect in October of 05 dont cover rail stations then.

I dare say there will be some loop hole there that will mean dodgy out of the way stations can be overlooked.

Beside in the case of Roby it can be argued that you can access either platform without needing to use the stairs. It means a longer walk but there is access. I am sure that would be thier argument aswell. It is a pain I agree and is pretty much out of order, but also think there is fuck all that could be done.

You can access Lime St at both end entrances. No point in spending money where the steps are when they don't need to.

they only apply when the station is refurbished---if your local station is rebuilt then disabled access has to be included if there are no suitable alternatives nearby

Amen to that - even if it's just for some of the more local destinations. Their only solution to that problem is sporadically having a couple of ticket inspectors off the trains stood by the end of the ticket windows with their little machines. Bit daft, really.

Why not just get on the train and hope nobody comes to check?

I was on the Liverpool-London train last night, a few carriages from the front, i got off in Crewe and nobody had been down to sort tickets out.

Bought on the train for the other two legs of my journey like, but there's no harm in just getting on and waiting (or hoping they don't) for the ticket man/woman to come by...

Doubt it, it's far too late for anything major to happen in time for 2008 now. The retailers etc funded Piccadilly's refurb.

Once again this is a Merseytravel fuck up, they should have been on the ball with this a couple of years ago working with network rail and retailers, now it's too late and the place will remain a dump for the foreseeable future.

no, it's the fact that there ain't enough money in the city, sadly.

What're they doing there at the moment then, folks? Was in there this weekend and they're digging up a load of stuff over by platforms 7-9 where those glass panels used to be. Hopefully they're being got rid of, as it made no sense walking in from town and having to walk all the way round to the main concourse to then go and get a train to London/Brum/Wherever from that side of the station...

They are indeed being got rid of.

no, it's the fact that there ain't enough money in the city, sadly.

All the construction work currently going on suggests there is plenty of money in the city.

Very, Manchester has two trains an hour to London hence will always have at least one trin sitting there if not two. Liverpool has one an hour, and also stables the spare trains outside in the sidings past Edge Hill.

Benitez5 if you hate Liverpool Lime St that much when Network Rail haven't spent the money then sobeit BUT please get off your high horse and stop slagging it off on here. Any complaints take them up with Virgin Rail / Network Rail/ The Government, otherwise please fuck off.

This section is about all issues to do with Liverpool (as a city) unless im mistaken?
So if you dont like what i post about & the same applies to anyone else, go shove your head down the loo & flush it moron.

The issue here is you are comparing two stations from two cities. One has had bugger all spent on it for years, one has had millions. One has 9 platforms and one has 14, hence less trains can use the station. Face the facts, if Liverpool Lime St had the same amount of money spent as Picadilly it would be comparable to a point. The fact Lime St has LESS room to expand unlike Picadilly could is another issue. But don't let FACTS lesser your argument.

So what?

You are going on about the state of Lime St, you THEN compare it to a station that got massively upgraded with millions spent on it making it bigger and with more space.

So my question to you is fair enough complain about the state of it BUT do not compare it with a station which has been completely and utterly refurbished.

I give you Manchester Victoria as a counter argument, a fucking dive of a station in Manchester.

So do one.

There is.

For example, I was on a Liverpool-London train once and the train manager announced that if you are found on the train without being in possession of a ticket then you'll be liable to pay the full open standard fare, basicallly the most expensive they can charge you, which was in excess of £100, as apose to the 40 quid or whatever it is to buy it from the ticket window.

If they want to be utter c*nts they can also make you pay 50% more than the train fare as a fine for being on the train without tickets.

All done obviously to cut down on people sitting on the train and hoping for the best.

Not complaining, makes sense to me.

The only problem I have with it is if you're running late, get into the station with 2 minutes until the train leaves so you don't have time to buy a ticket, and then get charged extra because of it.

Aye that is one problem with Lime St. Only ticket machines are for pre paid only. They need some proper ones to help out. Plus we could all rush in at the last minute, so it might be taking the piss if everyone claimed that but thats how it is now.

That's definitely a few years ago, Bobby, judging by the state of the train :)

Only just stopped using those trains. Seen one the other week at Euston. They had one rake on Birmingham service covering modifications on the new ones.
