For those in the USA, ESPN+ has the golf live now. Including a featured group channel-- Woods- McIlroy-Speith,

Tiger birdies his first hole. As the group started on 10.

Rory playing a different course to everyone else at the minute. The forgiving fairways have meant he has license to unleash the driver and he's bullying the course in that regard.

It'll be very interesting to see how he now handles being the man to chase down, albeit it is very early.

The winds are supposed to pick up, so those who teed off early have the advantage.

Same forecast tomorrow, so Rory-Tiger-Justin will have it a bit more difficult with their afternoon tee times.

Rory didn't quite get away like it looked like he would, the wind got up and the greens got quicker and he dropped a couple but ended up at -5.

He's got the clubhouse lead and it'll take a special round for someone to overtake it.

Random note, but Tulsa is a great little town for anyone who gets out there. A bit like how Austin was 30 years ago before the west coast tech bros took it over and gradually ruined the city.

Underrated music, art, bar and food scene. Nice people too, with a bit of a weird/different culture, at least compared to much of the rest of Oklahoma.  ;D

What struck me most about driving back to Texas from Tulsa was the amount of small towns that were fucked. Just in disarray due to the younger folks moving to cities

Yeah, it's a tough and sobering drive through some of those towns. A lot just got left behind and there's not much happening. But that's the story for much of the rural parts of this country.

That long putt from Rory was abysmal.

Don’t know what goes through his head at times, awful short game.

John Daly currently leads on -1 (only one group have completed a hole so far!).

Just wasted my usual small each way bets on: Morikawa, Lowry, Fitzpatrick, Woodland.

Still got a couple in the hunt from an e/w point of view (Woodland was 100/1). Fitzpatrick doing alright although just about to drop one here I think.

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the US PGA Championship after struggling in the third round at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

If he wasn't so proud he would benefit greatly from taking a cart. When he plays some shots he still looks smooth an majestic, yet when he walks he looks awful and when the ball is in an awkward spot or on a bit of an upslope or downslope his stability isn't there and it all goes to pot.

As for the tournament, the stellar names aren't really there and those at the top of the leaderboard are good players but they are not prolific winners on the PGA Tour or at majors (indeed Pereira, Fitzpatrick, Zalatoris and Cameron Young have yet to win on the PGA Tour). Pereira won a fair bit on the Korn Ferry tour, Fitzpatrick has won quite a few times around the world on the DP World/European Tour but this is the biggest stage.

I think Ancer is great value at around 18/1, not long off the tee really but a good iron player and has a bit more experience than those at the top. He's 5 back of Pereira but only 2 shots off second place and if the Chilean messes it up he'll be right in the mix.

Up there with Phil Mickelson's calamity in 2006 US Open when he started hitting hospitality tents and trees and did everything humanly possible to miss out on a playoff.

JT's form has been exceptional for a while but he's just not been able to convert. He hadn't won since The Players in 2021. I think I've said this before on here so this isn't recency bias, but IMO he's the best player on the tour when he's on his game, despite his up and down driving and putting.

I'm glad I backed him this week. Congrats to JT. Commiserations to Pereira and Zalatoris.

Was tough to watch Pereira collapse like that, felt for the guy. Being the leader on a Sunday at a major is unlike anything else in the sport and it’s clear the pressure got to him.

Only a matter of time before Zalatoris wins one. His record in majors so far in his young career is seriously impressive (Five top 10’s now in his first eight Major’s).

Big ups to JT. Was one of my favorites coming into this week, great to see him bring it home. He hung around and then had a very good Sunday, which is oftentimes, all it takes. Love to watch him hit the ball and shape his shots. He’s so talented and he’s IMO one of the few on Tour who seem to have an ability to channel a Tiger-esque killer instinct. Think he’s got at least a few more major’s in him before his career ends.

Zalatoris was a car crash with his putting. He won't win a major with it. To many times he took the putter back and hit the ball towards the toe end. The putter head was all over the place. Like he had the shakes when putting.

Not saying his putting can't get better. It's undoubtedly the weakest part of his game and the stroke is u-g-l-y. But he's been doing the off the toe things for a little while now, it very much appears to be on purpose.

I can understand why rory didn't talk to the media

My god he could have easily gotten to -7 on Sunday
He missed so many putts inside 15 foot on Sunday

Faldo is right about him
Has a 2 way miss - either gets stuck and blocks or a massive draw  :(

Another wasted Friday/Saturday - not sure how he gets over this issue to be honest - seems strange that from 120yards and in he's average

Really should be on 8 majors by now

You are right there. He hits it so far to only then hit the next ball 15 feet from the flag from 120yards. His player partners were hitting better shots from longer distances.

He needs to be playing 3 days of good golf out of 4 to be in contention. Right now he could only put 1-2 days of good golf together.

There’s a great stat site pgatour.com

You can look at all the SG driving putting etc

He was 5th SG off the tee and then between 40-50 for putting/around the green/ shots into green

Astonishing considering his talent
