It looks very different now, it's had all cladding and new brickwork so it looks different, it's the same building underneath though. It does sound like you were on Trinity Street, which is what's straight on from Etruria Road, not too sure about the smaller Casino though, I'd be there a couple times a year and the clubs and restaurants were all different every time, nowhere seemed to be able to stay open.

Did your mates ever 'forgive' you (even though you didn't do anything wrong)? I've tailed it and got caught before (jumped over a wall onto a car park and badly misjudged the drop, breaking my foot as I landed) and never blamed my mates who went in a different direction, my fault for my own decision making.

Spent the last couple of hours trying to find out more. I think this may be it; the door arrangement looks right. I can see it was on Broad Street, but it's been demolished and I can't work out where it was (in the same building as the ABC cinema)

Would happily start a thread on “Student” Monday nights up Hanely or the one nightclub Leek has ever had.

My cousin worked at that Nightclub for years as a teenager, as well as the Titanic pub on the square. A branch of my Grandad's solicitors is still on the High Street there.

How else will we spend our work days?

That's some quality research mate, it did indeed house a cinema and also another branch of the aforementioned Grandad's law firm, before demolition. There's a right grubby Indie/Hardcore bar round the corner called the underground where I got knocked out in a wall of death. The bloke who floored me was the nicest lad ever, picked me up, spent about 30 minutes apologising and making sure I was okay and bought me a couple of drinks.

Apologies for derailing the thread.    :-[

Where was that? I'm trying to figure out exactly what my flight route was that night. Thanks for yours and other's help/suggestions, BTW.

The pic came up on a search of casinos in Hanley (I figured there couldn't be many!). I know it was on Broad Lane, and was on my left as I ran up the hill. But where on Broad Lane I don't know. And I'm guessing that the nightclub & car park in front was roughly where Tesco is now??

Yes I'd say you're bang on there. So you probably came out of the Nightclub and pegged it up the bank in a bit of a circular towards the casino, then back down towards the car park that's still there today but larger.

Derailing threads is what it's all about. There's obviously a decent amount of lawful behaviour in town so we've spread our wings to Midlands backwaters  ;D

When I was young and we used to go to Leek or Stoke to see family, only my Grandma called me 'duck,' so I assumed it was one of those pet things only women tended to use, or sometimes men to women. Upon going into Leek town centre last time, I was called 'Ducky' and 'Duck' by a bloke in Wrights Pies and one in a pub, so I think it's just everyone calls everyone it round there. 'Mar mate' is another one. They were similarly perplexed at my usage of Ozzy and devvoed.

Metropolis the club yeah? The titanic doesnt ring a bell with me but i havent been back recently. the ones on the market place i remember were black lion, engine room, elmos, bird in hand (i think) and the foxelowe place at the top.
That was the club, messaged him earlier and he said the pub we went in was called The Roebuck.

.... but he tells me Creation was Valentino's rebrand and closed before even he was 18, so must have shut very late 90s/very early 00s. I think it's still there as a Casino, but I haven't been to Stoke for a night out in 4 or 5 years now.

Yep Valentino's closed around the millennium - was an absolute dog pit, full of knuckle draggers and women with so much hairspray it would be considered a fire risk these days.....

Apparently there is a big police presence at the Yacht Club at Liverpool Marina tonight.

A man in his 70s attacked. A man in his 40s arrested nearby. The victim is in a serious condition.

Drugs baron Curtis Warren is being prepared for release after 14 years in jail but will face strict conditions.

Liverpool gangster Warren, 58, will not be allowed any assets worth more than £1,000 despite allegedly having £198million squirrelled away.

He will be hit with a string of other curbs on his lifestyle under a serious crime prevention order, including foreign travel and his use of the internet, phones and vehicles - reports Mirror Online.

Alison Abbott, Head of Lifetime Management at the National Crime Agency, said: “Many career criminals regard prison as an interruption which rarely marks the end of their involvement in organised crime. This is why the NCA has a policy of Lifetime Management.

“Through the NCA’s Lifetime Management programme we use Serious Crime Prevention Orders, Travel Restriction Orders and Financial Reporting Orders, as an extra layer of prevention.

“They ensure we firmly have these individuals on our radar, especially after prison, and anything that suggests that they’re slipping into old ways can be detected early on.”

Sources said Warren is due to be automatically released next year. He will not have to go before the Parole Board because he is not serving a life sentence.

Warren, who at one point had an estimated fortune of £300million, was jailed for 13 years in 2009 over a plot to smuggle £1million of cannabis into Jersey.

He was given a further 10 years, of which he must serve half, after failing to pay a £198million confiscation order, one of the largest ever made in Europe.

Warren was held after undercover police arrested him in 2007 just days after he had been released from prison for a previous offence.

He has spent almost all of the last 25 years in jail.

Warren is on a list published by the NCA earlier this year of individuals involved in organised crime who have been issued with serious crime prevention orders.

In his case they include restrictions for five years after his release on his ability to use cars and property, borrow money, make transfers, hold trusts or shares and use foreign or virtual currency.

If he breaks the conditions Warren can be sent back to prison.

He is understood to be in HMP Long Lartin, a category A jail in Worcestershire and is expected to be moved to a lower category prison in the months before his release date next November.

Through the 1980s and 1990s, ‘Cocky’ Warren, as he became known, graduated from running nightclub doors, to armed robbery and then international drug trafficking.

In 1993, following the collapse of a complex drugs trial at Newcastle crown court, he was reported to have approached customs officers to tell them: “I’m off to spend my £87million from the first shipment and you can’t f****** touch me.”

Warren was convicted of trying to mastermind a £125million drugs shipment from the Netherlands into the UK and sentenced to 12 years in 1996.

In the Nieuw Vosseveld maximum security jail, Turkish prisoner Cemal Guclu attacked Warren.

He kicked his attacker, a convicted killer, in the head, killing him.

Warren claimed to have acted in self-defence, and got a further four years’ jail.

He was released in the summer of 2007 and sent back to Liverpool. Within weeks, he flew to Jersey, where he was jailed again.

As Sir Richard Tucker handed him a 13-year sentence, Warren closed the book he had been reading for much of the proceedings and walked out with prison guards behind him.

In 2013, prosecutors claimed Warren was in control of a £198million drugs’ empire.

Prison officer Stephanie Smithwhite was jailed last year for two years at Durham Crown Court after she had a behind bars sexual relationship with notorious gangster Warren.

“Hand over 198 million pounds, that we know you have but can’t find or prove the existence of, or take this extra 10 year sentence”

I would have no problem with them seizing assets if they can find them but that was bullshit

Also on a lesser level, the Jersey case was based completely on illegal wiretaps/tracking devices

There is an established body of law that allows illegally gathered evidence to be used, subject to provisos in criminal proceedings.

Warren would have a civil claim that his right to privacy had been breached.

All I know is that drugs laws are a joke and only serve to empower criminals across the world, fuel violence and fund terrorism, with it. You take one Curtis Warren down and another pops up, or a few others pop up fighting with eachother putting violence in our street. What's the point?

Obviously things could only change properly if they changed all around the world which isn't going to happen... But still

Eh? May believe me? It's not even in question, it's all documented. My comment about them 'making the rules up as they went along' to keep him locked up was regarding the 198 million pound confiscation order.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2013/nov/05/drug-smuggler-curtis-warren-ordered-pay-198m-pounds-jersey-court

The only part that was 'my opinion' was that it was a shocking abuse of the courts' power. People can agree or disagree with that, but the facts are all out there.

Announced this morning that she’s died. 12 years old. Horrible news.

Had an argument with a group of boys aged 12-15 (also now arrested) and was then assaulted. It really brings it home when you read she was taken to Alder Hey.

Carrying a knife is completely shithouse behaviour and always will be.

She should be able to enjoy Xmas lights without running the risk of bumping into a gang of feral rats.

Not saying you are blaming her in any way.

True, you'd expect a child to be reasonably safe in a packed town in the middle of the week.

I feared the worst quite early on last night when I heard about this. The poor girl's condition sounded extremely critical.

Surely this is a new low even for the feral scum we have to endure in this city.

I'm just glad arrests were made quickly. Four children aged 13, 14, 14 and 15 from Toxteth.

RIP Ava White.

The light that burns twice as bright, burns half as long, and you've burned so very, very brightly, Jürgen.
