He is in hospital witha groin infection.

Liverpool FC this afternoon issued the following statement:

Steven Gerrard today began a course of antibiotic treatment for an infection related to an ongoing groin problem.

He is expected to remain in hospital for several days while the precautionary procedure is completed.

The player will then return to Melwood to continue his rehabilitation programme and is expected to be available for selection in September.

He's been easily one of the best players I have ever had the fortune to watch but I'm not sure we will ever get back the Gerrard that dictates a game on his own. Bit sad but he just doesn't seem to be able to overcome this injury.

How the hell did he manage to get an infection in his groin? The operation was ages ago, I'd have thought it would have healed enough by now to reduce any risk of infection.....unless they've been prodding something in it recently.
