Sterling?

Doesn't even get in City's team nowadays. Had about 3 decent games in the Euros and that's it.

For me Neymar has to be the funniest inclusion. Has he done *anything* of note since joining PSG? He misses half the games, doesn't score many, and half of the ones he does are penalties.

I'd have Salah, Lewandowski and Suarez in the top 3.

Neymar and Sterling are bad inclusions.

Also if they are going to include Chiellini, Pedri and Bonnuci based on just Euro performances then where is Chiesa?

Salah and Lewandowski are probably the favourites. If they give it to Messi or Ronaldo again, it will just prove how clueless the voters are and how meaningless the trophy is.

Has to be Lewandowski after the shambles of last year when the full football season restarted and they decided to not award it because Messi and Ronaldo were below par, Lewandoski should have won it last year and he's still scored the most goals since last season.

Should've won it last year and it needs to be disbanded if he doesn't this year. He's on about 50 odd goals for the calendar and will add about 20 more.

Messi scored 23 goals in the second half of last year and then won Copa América. Hardly a robbery if he wins it.

Top 3 are Lewandowski, Messi and Kante for me.

Just looking through some of the past winners and top contenders.

Lewandowski has never finished in the top 3 of voting. This is despite him being on track to beat Gerd Muller's scoring record in Bundesliga(if he sticks around). He has won the league and CL.

Salah has never been in the top 3 despite him breaking all sorts of league scoring records. He has also won the league and CL.

Neymar and Griezmann have made the podium twice from 2014-19.

The voting is a fairer reflection of the football year than the FIFA The Best(formerly World Player of the Year) farce which is a popularity contest. Compare the past winners of the two awards.

Lewandowski should have won it last year. He deserves to win it this time around too. That said, it'll probably end up going to Jorginho

Jorginho was neither the best player in Chelsea nor in Italy. Mind boggling that.

Most of football awards are like that. I remember that Marcelo was once picked in the UEFA or FIFA world 11, even though he hadn’t started for most of the year. Football awards when compared to other sports awards, are painfully shallow, with remarkable little analysis done by the people given them. I follow the NBA a lot, and the level of analysis and amount of work the serious journalist (which there are a lot) do for picking their the all-star and all-nba teams, is on another planet to that of their football counterparts.

Maybe, but Balon d'Or voting is also typically very anti-premier league and English players.

Ronaldo was the last PL player in PL to win it.

Keegan, Owen, Stanley Mattews and Bobby Charlton are the only English players to ever win it.

Players like Gerrard, Dalglish, Rush and Lampard never won it, even when English teams were dominant in CL/ European cup.

Did Liverpool get 5 players shortlisted when we won the CL or pissed the league? I wonder how many "sponsorships" FIFA have secured this year. Sterling and Mount are joke selections, and so is Foden really - great talent but he isn't a bedrock of his team. The fact that Jorginho is being mentioned as a chance just goes to show how players like Salah are unfairly disadvantaged by playing for weaker countries.

Lewa or Messi

Love Salah but wouldn't see what basis he's winning it on. If we win something this season and he has the season its looking like he's going to then I get next year but calling for him to get it now just feel like bias because he's a red

I don't think team trophies matter too much unless you've been the reason a team won it, that's why I think somebody like Jorginho is a farce. Salah has been nowhere near as good as Lewandowski this year but I guess he's in his best form when it matters.
