Good idea Brad. Hopefully the trolls can leave it alone, as it could actually be an excellent, ongoing thread.

If you have to build the stuff yourself, I find http://alistapart.com has a lot of great ideas.

I love the http://csszengarden.com as well for inspiring ideas.

Ta Nidge, had a chat with Streety the other day about the idea.
Can be useful for hints and tips. Heads up on competitions. Photoshop Volley style games,
Job Offers, News, work critique........etc etc

Maybe a mod can sticky? Or is that hoping for too much?

I think there are enough pro designers / interested amateurs on here for the thread to be OK without a sticky being needed - as long as the thread is moderated so it doesn't descend into silliness, that'll do me.

another stock library.

Cheaper than istock, similar looking image quality, though range not quite as big. Worth a look though.

What is the deal with copy right photos, say i take one slice it up and use a section of it and then add some filters, is it still copyrighted or is it technically my own work then? Dropped out of college before i learned that ;D

Ive always thought the designer has no rights over the original image at all. The photographer has rights over the image, but re-use of the image needs both the photographer and designer (if there is one) to give consent. I think the law will always favour the photographer tho.

Typical PC owner - no idea of what quality actually means.

I need an image of strawberries and cream for a Billboard smiff. Fuck off to google images and get me a really good one, with a white background and about 50% copy space on the mid lhs. Needs to be at least 6000 pixels x 4000 pixels.

Come back when you've got one.

Anyone wondering about copyright - you'll get all the answers you need here

http://www.ipo.gov.uk/copy.htm

Harry - this is the bit relevant to your question...

Infringing other people's copyright

Infringement of copyright occurs where either the whole or a substantial part of a work is used without permission, unless the copying falls within the scope of one of the copyright exceptions. The term substantial part is not defined under copyright law but has been interpreted by the courts to mean a significant part of the work.  This does not mean, however, that it needs to be a large part of the work.

Copyright gives the creators of a wide range of material, such as literature, art, music, sound recordings, films and broadcasts, economic rights. It does not protect ideas, or such things as names or titles.

Authors are able to control use of their material in a number of ways, such as:

    * making copies
    * issuing copies to the public
    * performing in public
    * broadcasting and use on-line

It also gives moral rights to be identified as the creator of certain kinds of material, and to object to distortion or mutilation of it.

The purpose of copyright is to allow creators to gain economic rewards for their efforts and so encourage future creativity and the development of new material which benefits us all. Copyright material is usually the result of creative skill and/or significant labour and/or investment, and without protection, it would often be very easy for others to exploit material without paying the creator.

Most uses of copyright material therefore require permission from the copyright owner. However there are exceptions to copyright, so that some minor uses may not infringe copyright.
