Some may see this as sacrilege...but anyone listened to the reggae version of Dark Side of the Moon? Dub Side of the Moon by The Easy Star Allstars.

As an idea, had the potential to be dreadful, but somehow I think it works. The poignancy of the lyrics come across just as strong. Would recommend it if you happen to like Floyd & reggae.

Red_Mist, have you seen the gig on youtube?  I love it.

I enjoyed the Nintendo Greatest Gig, Art Vandelay, thanks for posting.

Not seen that Rigga. Good stuff.

I like this simple summary of Dark Side from their dvd cover notes:-

"While each of the four Pink Floyd albums between 1973 and 1979 transformed huge themes into rousing studio experiments, Dark Side of the Moon stands as the most resonant - most likely because the record examines the human condition as skillfully as any anthropologist could. Starting and ending with a heartbeat (the symbol of life), the narrative moves on a path from birth ("Breathe") to death ("The Great Gig in the Sky") and eventual spiritual resolution ("Eclipse"), all while exploring the basic forces that shape mankind: time, or lack thereof ("Time"), movement ("On The Run"), possessions ("Money"), conflict ("Us And Them"), and madness ("Brain Damage"). These universal matters suffer little in our musical translation; reggae has long tackled humanist themes, especially those that document daily suffering and endless hope."

Dark Side is a timeless classic, although I seem to listen to Dub Side more often these days (and very occasionally set them up to alternate between the two, as they're pretty seemless...sad eh!). But they both never fail to move me, which I can't say about too many albums.

Such an impossible question from the OP.

My favourite album can change from hour to hour never mind track.

But... If I could only take one track onto a desert island then it would have to be "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Mainly due to length I think. Has a bit of everything I love about Pink Floyd so that would be the one.

To answer the OP (from 2004!) I'd have to go with...erm...ahh...tough one..........

Echoes.

For the dreamy, spaced out classic Floyd vocals, the funky riff mid way through, but mainly for that build up after the 'cave scene'....full of tension, two simple haunting background chords, then the explosion of reverbing guitars. Infact, where's my copy of Meddle? That's goin on right now!

I saw Floyd at Main Road in the late 80's. Fantastic sound with speakers all around the stadium. After about 3 songs they suddenly turned up the bass (it was either that or the weed kicking in) and it felt like the ground was shaking underneath. Giant pig flying overhead, lasers all over the place and towards the end what looked like a green spiders web made from the lasers that formed a webbed roof out of the old stadium.

Awesome.

I only got into them about 6 weeks ago after listening to Pulse as a mate of my uncle's played guitar on it.

Love love love Dark Side of the Moon as a complete piece of music, with Time, Brain Damage and Eclipse just below Great Gig in the Sky.

Others, Wish you were here is brilliant. Comfortably Numb has a sensational guitar solo (I really love the version of David Gilmour at the Albert Hall with Rick Wright on vocals) and High Hopes is a stunning song to finish their career on. Shine on you crazy diamond is fantastic.

My only slight issue is that I get the feeling that Roger Walters is a complete and utter twat. Hate the way he treated Rick Wright during The Wall sessions and tour. Probably why I like Pulse so much.

I'm listening to Goodbye Blue Sky and my overwhelmingly impression is Spinal Tap. And I fucking loved that album when I was a teenager.

Whereas Comfortably Numb is still fab.

I think he has mellowed a little.
He is and has been open for a reunion.
The stumbling block has been Gilmour.

And I don't think the two Gilmour fronted albums are that good. They have their moments.

They've done Ok Computer (Radiodread) and Sgt. Peppers (Easy Star's Lonely Hearts Dub Band).

Pink Floyd one is my favourite, but the Radiohead one is also pretty cool. Haven't listened to the Sgt. Pepper one too much yet.

Haven't listened to the Sgt. Pepper one too much yet.

They were playing it over the sound system at Africa Oye on Saturday, when I walked up it was A Day In The Life, really enjoyed that one. Then the lazy DJ just let the album run through again. Most of it was quite enjoyable, but by the time it got round to She's Leaving Home it was a bit silly, that particular song couldn't suit a reggae treatment less!

Wish you were here.  Another nerve-tingler

Coming back to life.   From the division bell album, lo0ve the guitar, lyrics and everything else to do with this song. Wouldbnt have been out of place on some of the earlier (better???) albums.

The Final Cut.    Lyrically superb, musically superb, just fuckin superb

Almost impossible to name a single song from PF as a fave.

Brain damage/Eclipse, Shine on you Crazy diamond, Wish you were here.... I'm close to saying all of the earlier mentioned in this thread. I tend to go back to Delicate Sound of Thunder. Really puts me in that good Pink Floyd mood I love to be in...

Arh ok, Comfortably Numb then...

My 8 year old daughter is into all the pop music going on. Lady GaGa, Jonas Bros etc. My 5 year old son however insists on listening to rock music when we drive together in the car. I have had him listening to Rammstein, AC/DC, Led Zep, Metallica etc. I plan on introducing the more complicated works of PF when he's a tad older and I really hope he'll like it. So much joy and emotion in their music. I can certainly say that there isn't a single week when I don't listen to some PF. Just love it...

At http://www.hopingfoundation.org/ there's a 29 minute video of Roger Waters and David Gilmour playing together for The Hoping Foundation. Songs include Wish You Were Here, Comfortably Numb and Another Brick In The Wall.
The info that was posted on Waters website:

Quote
"Hi everyone,

Here is a two minute taster of the gig David and I did together for The Hoping Foundation back in July. The sound quality is crap but it was a great night for me, and for him, and also for "US and THEM".

Please support the Hoping Foundation; they are doing great work for refugee children. David and I have given the charity the whole 29 minutes and I'm told they're going to put it up at approximately 5 pm BST on Monday, August 16.
