Really felt the need for some Pink Floyd the other day so I put 'Meddle', 'Animals'and 'Piper..' on the ipod and climbed a hill on my bike.

Perfect afternoon ('Piper at the gates of dawn' is an amazing debut album)..

Pink Floyd have been a big part of my musical life since as far back as I can remember. I'm a metal-head at heart, but I regularly listen to Floyd. My favourite album is Meddle, I just think it's absolutely perfect in every way. Favourite song is Dogs, I think it encaspulates everything about Pink Floyd in one song. I'm going to start playing Floyd for my 10 year old lad soon, he's into Metallica, Iron Maiden, early Kiss (!!) and Muse at the moment, I think he needs to get into some Floyd.

I'm listening to some Lounge and chillout radio on iTunes and all of a sudden this ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmsiKo5deSU ) comes on. The solo starts @ 2:42.... Remind you of anything?? At first I thought "WTF? THIEVES" but then I read the describtion of the song posted by user mavdrb and it made more sense to me.

Recycling or simply variations over a well-known theme?

They gave me one of the best moments of my life when I saw them live, absolutely fantastic. Couldn´t sleep that night at all. It was without Roger though, who is a big favourite of mine but saw the Wall in London this year so it was great to see him aswell. Remember when I saw them all play in 2005 at the Live 8, so emotional and so fucking good. Propably the best band ever after Beatles.

Favourite songs:

* Comfortably numb - Gilmours Solo on the live versions is one of the most magnificent pieces of music ever created.
* Wish you were
* Have a Cigar
* Pigs on the wing (three diffrent ones)
* Us and them
* Shine on you crazy diamond
* Mother
* Brain Damage
* Fearless
* Happiest days of our lives/another brick in the wall
At Half time AC thought they had us beat
The Blueshite were dancing in the North Wales Streets
But Stevie G played like a man posessed
And all they have now is their Bitterness!

How do you sleep at night Duckenfield?

So decided to ransack mothers attic in search of cassettes, mainly for the little one sat in the back during car journeys. Loads of good stuff found, but found one cassette that I never thought I'd find again, a TDK copy of Ummagumma. I have GOT to get this on vinyl. It's about 26 years old, and blow me, it still works, and a major companion to early forays into Morroco's finest export. I had completely forgotton about Grantchester Meadows. 'Jesus turn it off!' the wife cried... 'ah but wait', it's full of noise and clangs and drums,  interspersed with lilting pastoral passages. Driving thru the countryside, went down brilliantly.

Might be able to help there - a friend's father has passed away and I've been asked to catalogue the simply massive collection of vinyl he had. They're sure that there's plenty of Pink Floyd in there, all original, all good nick.

I'd be very interested to give it a good home. Some honour to be asked to catalogue something like that. All going on eBay?

been enjoying Ummagumma today. Belting album. Arguably one of the best screams in rock is the one dealt up on this, and one which you've known for a loooong time it seems :)  ... And that lovely drum rim beat early on.

Sure thing, will let you know and yes it's an honour and a scary prospect. Trying to avoid eBay as much as I can - too messy - gonna use discogs and private collectors where I can.

As for *that* scream, I prefer the live version at Pompeii ;D

Everyone I knew who was into a pot from the early 80's was into Floyd, man. I actually thought they were called 'Floyd Man' for about 2 years till I realised there was actually a 'Pink' at the front of it. Suppose having Pink in the name of a group you're into wasn't the done thing if you want to be on the special, so 'Floyd' or 'Floyd Man' it was, and whilst they are/were good they never really hit me like others, well not enough to name my Staff after them and then mooch around the match with a Dear-stalker on. I'd say mid-eighties there must have been about a 1000 staffs called Floyd in Liverpool. Call your dog and about 5 came running. Strangely me dad got into Floyd Man at the age of 68. Now thats a novelty I reckon...though it did coincide with me supplying him with some rather sweet (If I may say so myself)and mellow pollen, to help him deal with his Glaucoma.

Thats my Floyd Man interest over anyway.
